Kimitsu Onsen

Kimitsu Onsen refers to the hot spring area around Kimitsu in Chiba Prefecture, on the Boso Peninsula. It is better known as a quiet local retreat than as a major resort, and that low-key character is part of its appeal. For travelers coming from the Tokyo area, it offers an easy way to slow down without leaving the Kanto region behind.

The wider Kimitsu area is associated with wooded hills, rural roads, and access to some of southern Chiba’s gentler landscapes, so a visit to the baths often fits naturally into a slower day of exploring. Rather than grand sightseeing, the pleasure here is in the rhythm of the place: a soak, a simple meal, and time spent noticing the quieter side of the Boso Peninsula.
