Overview
Stay within walking distance of central Kusatsu at LiVEMAX Resort Kusatsu Onsen. Yubatake is around ten minutes away on foot, giving you easy access to the steaming hot spring field, traditional streets, footbaths, shops, cafés, and evening illuminations.
The resort has only 20 rooms, and every room includes Simmons beds and a private Shigaraki-ware semi-open-air bath. Open or close the windows according to the weather and enjoy a personal soak at any time. The room bath uses regular heated water, while natural Bandai-ko spring water flows through the shared indoor and open-air baths.
You can combine private bathing with seasonal buffet meals, a sauna, table tennis, karaoke, games, and walks through Kusatsu. Selected rooms also welcome dogs, allowing you to explore this famous mountain hot spring town together.
Accommodation
Choose from Western rooms and Japanese-Western rooms ranging from 28 to 81 square metres. Every room includes two 120-centimetre-wide Simmons beds and a private Shigaraki-ware semi-open-air bath. Larger categories add Japanese floor space, a living area, futon bedding, or a private terrace.
The Western Modern Suite is the largest category, offering 73 square metres indoors and an eight-square-metre terrace. You can choose a Western layout or a Japanese-Western layout. Both measure 81 square metres in total, accommodate up to seven people, and include separate areas for sleeping and relaxing.
The Western Modern Junior Suites measure 58 square metres and accommodate up to six people. The Japanese-Western version adds tatami space where futons can be prepared, while the Western version uses beds and a larger lounge-style layout.
The 48-square-metre Western Modern Superior Japanese-Western Room accommodates up to six people. Twin beds sit beside a Japanese living area, giving you space to relax on the floor while keeping the convenience of Western bedding.
The 35-square-metre Western Modern Moderate Japanese-Western Room accommodates up to five people. The more compact 28-square-metre Japanese-Western Room also accommodates up to five and gives you the same combination of beds, Japanese floor space, and a private semi-open-air bath.
Three rooms welcome dogs. The 48-square-metre Dog-Friendly Superior Room accommodates up to five people, while two 35-square-metre Dog-Friendly Western Rooms accommodate up to four. You need to follow the pet accommodation agreement when staying with your dog.
Every private semi-open-air bath uses regular heated water rather than natural Kusatsu Onsen water. For Bandai-ko spring water, use the shared indoor or open-air baths.
Your room includes free Wi-Fi, individual heating and air conditioning, a 50-inch television, refrigerator, humidifying air purifier, Washlet toilet, kettle, hair dryer, tea and coffee supplies, towels, indoor clothing, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrushes, razors, brushes, and cotton swabs.
All accommodation categories are non-smoking.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are served as seasonal buffets in the first-floor restaurant. Local Gunma ingredients appear alongside Japanese and Western dishes, allowing you to choose your meal according to your appetite.
Dinner runs from 17:30 to 21:00, with final orders at 20:30. The changing selection may include meat, fish, seasonal vegetables, rice, noodles, salads, warm side dishes, and desserts. Seasonal food fairs introduce new themes throughout the year.
Selected plans add a 90-minute alcoholic drink service with choices such as beer, highballs, sours, whisky, shochu, wine, and cocktails. Soft drinks are also available.
Breakfast runs from 7:00 to 9:30, with final entry at 9:00. You can begin with rice and Japanese side dishes or choose bread, eggs, salad, fruit, and other Western-style breakfast food.
When the number of diners is too low for the full buffet, dinner or breakfast may change to a Japanese-Western set meal. Meals are served in the restaurant rather than inside your room.
Onsen and Wellness
The shared bathing area uses natural water from Kusatsu Onsen’s Bandai-ko source. This extremely hot source emerges at approximately 94.6°C and is classified as an acidic chloride and sulfate spring with hypotonic and high-temperature qualities.
Bandai-ko water has a strong mineral character and represents the more powerful side of Kusatsu bathing. It has traditionally been associated with easing fatigue, muscle and joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, nerve discomfort, sensitivity to cold, bruises, sprains, minor cuts, burns, and long-term skin concerns.
Separate areas for men and women each include a large indoor bath, an open-air bath, and a sauna. The natural water follows a free-flowing system rather than recirculating used bathwater.
You can use the baths from 15:00 to midnight and again from 6:00 to 11:00. These hours give you time for an evening soak after exploring Yubatake and an early bath before breakfast.
The changing areas include lockers, showers, stools, washbowls, hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a drinking-water dispenser. The men’s side also provides hair tonic and hair liquid, while the women’s side provides cleansing oil and facial lotion.
There is no reservable private natural hot spring bath.
Guests with Tattoos
You cannot use the shared indoor bath, open-air bath, or sauna if you have tattoos, including tattoo stickers or body paint. Covering your tattoo does not create an exception.
Facilities
Play complimentary table tennis for a 30-minute session between 15:00 and midnight. Final reception is at 23:30.
Private karaoke rooms operate from 13:00 to midnight, with final reception at 23:00. A mahjong room is also available when you want to spend time indoors with family or friends.
The game corner opens from 15:00 to midnight and includes arcade-style entertainment. You can also rent a Nintendo Switch for use inside your room.
A coin laundry helps you manage clothing during a longer trip or after outdoor activities. Vending machines, ice cream sales, luggage delivery, massage arrangements, and cake reservations are also available.
Free Wi-Fi covers the accommodation and shared areas. Front desk service runs from 7:00 to 22:00. After completing check-in, you can leave and return without a fixed curfew.
Free parking is available for 21 vehicles. Spaces are limited and provided in order of arrival.
Activities
Walk for around ten minutes to Yubatake, where hot spring water flows through wooden channels before falling into a steaming pool. Visit during the day to see the colour and movement of the water, then return after dark for the illuminations.
Netsunoyu stands beside Yubatake and presents Kusatsu’s traditional yumomi performance. Large wooden paddles stir the hot water while songs and rhythmic movements introduce you to an important part of local bathing culture.
Continue towards Sainokawara Street for shops, cafés, local snacks, glass products, and souvenirs. At the end of the street, Sainokawara Park offers walking paths beside naturally heated streams and pools.
You can stop at Yukemuritei beside Yubatake for a complimentary footbath or climb the steps to Kosenji Temple for views over the centre of the hot spring town.
Kusatsu Tropical Wonderland provides an indoor activity on a rainy or snowy day, with reptiles, tropical animals, and a warm greenhouse environment.
During winter, travel to Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort for skiing, snowboarding, and snow play. In the green season, the Tenguyama area offers mountain activities, including the BanZip Tengu zipline.
Back at the resort, you can enjoy table tennis, karaoke, games, the sauna, or a private soak inside your room.

Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal is around ten minutes away on foot. From JR Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station, the connecting bus journey takes approximately 25 minutes.
The property does not provide a regular station or bus-terminal shuttle. Kusatsu has steep roads, so a taxi may be more comfortable when you arrive with large luggage.
All 20 rooms include free Wi-Fi, Simmons beds, a private Shigaraki-ware semi-open-air bath, and a Washlet toilet. Three rooms welcome dogs under the pet accommodation rules.
Major credit cards, selected electronic money services, transport IC cards, and supported QR-code payment services are accepted.
Snow and ice affect the roads around Kusatsu during winter. You need winter tyres or suitable chains when arriving by car in colder conditions.
