Overview

AWA Nishiizu is an all-inclusive hot spring stay in Heda, a small port town on the west side of Izu. The concept is simple and memorable: find your best drink. Shizuoka sake, Shizuoka tea, wine, beer, mocktails, and seasonal drinks are part of the stay, and the food is built around fermentation so each meal pairs naturally with what you pour.

Heda is shaped by Suruga Bay, mountain scenery, and a long fishing-town culture. Mihama Cape, with its red torii gate at Morokuchi Shrine, has long been known as a natural harbor protected by the gods. AWA Nishiizu connects that local setting with Toda Onsen, Japanese-modern rooms, a relaxed bar and lounge, and activities that let you enjoy the town without overplanning.

Accommodation

AWA Nishiizu offers Japanese-modern rooms with wood tones, simple layouts, bed-style sleeping, large TVs, Wi-Fi, and private bathrooms. The room categories work well for couples, solo travelers, and small groups, with choices between open-air bath rooms, semi-open-air bath rooms, and standard rooms. The baths inside the rooms are not hot springs, so the natural onsen experience takes place in the shared baths or the reserved private bath.

The top-floor Private Twin with Open-Air Bath gives you one of the most private stays at the property. It has an open-air bath, a separate shower room, and a compact layout made for two people. The Deluxe Japanese-Western Room with Open-Air Bath gives you more space, with a large sofa, a raised tatami area, and either a ceramic bath or tiled bath facing the mountain scenery.

The Deluxe Modern Room with Semi-Open-Air Bath has a wide floor plan, modern furniture, and a renovated bath with views toward the surrounding hills. The Corner Twin with Semi-Open-Air Bath gives you a more private corner setting with a shower room, making it a good fit when you want a quieter room for one or two people.

The standard Western-style room has flooring, a tatami-style veranda area, and a separate shower room. The standard tatami-style room places beds on tatami flooring and adds a more Japanese feel while keeping the stay practical and easy. All rooms include useful basics such as private air conditioning, Wi-Fi, refrigerator, washlet toilet, bedding with feather duvets, towels, in-room wear, and bath items. An amenity bar on the first floor lets you take extra items as needed.

Dining

Dining at AWA Nishiizu focuses on fermented gastronomy. The kitchen uses local ingredients from Izu and Shizuoka, including fresh vegetables from producers, seafood from the Heda area, aged meat dishes, fermented sauces, and seasonal flavors that match the drink concept.

Dinner is served in the second-floor main dining restaurant and is available with dinner plans. The course includes appetizers and soup, a main dish, a chef’s dessert, and a fermentation buffet. The dining room has counter seating and private dining spaces, so you can enjoy the meal with a sense of comfort and privacy.

Drinks are part of the all-inclusive experience. The selection includes beer, wine, non-alcoholic cocktails, Shizuoka local sake, and drinks chosen by a sommelier. The focus is not simply on drinking more, but on matching the right drink with the food, the season, and your mood.

A night meal is served in the restaurant from 20:00 to 21:00. It includes items such as Deep Sea Curry and fermented snacks, designed as a late-evening pairing with drinks from AWA BAR. Breakfast brings a gentler start, with Shizuoka Kinmemai rice, organic eggs, mentaiko, miso soup with Heda vegetables, and a fermented dressing bar.

For celebrations, a cake or private dining room can be arranged with advance booking when available. The restaurant can also prepare private dining spaces for small groups, depending on reservation order.

Onsen and Wellness

AWA Nishiizu uses Toda Onsen, which emerged in 1986 and is known as the newest hot spring source in Izu. The spring quality is sodium-calcium sulfate spring water. The water is associated with support for stiff shoulders, back pain, rheumatism, and skin beauty.

The shared baths are designed around two local themes: the deep sea of Heda and the forest of Toda Pass. Shinkai no Yu uses dark tones and blue lighting to create a deep-sea atmosphere, while Fukaku no Yu uses wood elements and round aromatic wood balls floating in the water, giving the bath its “Wood Bubble Spa” feeling.

The public baths include indoor and open-air bathing areas, and the men’s and women’s baths alternate. Bathing hours are from 6:00 to 10:00 in the morning and from 15:00 to 24:00. The room baths are not hot springs, so these shared baths are the main place to enjoy natural Toda Onsen water.

Komoriyu, the reserved private bath, opened in July 2023. It uses dramatic lighting and can be reserved at check-in. Each session lasts 45 minutes, with use available from 15:00 to 22:45.

Guests with Tattoos

AWA Nishiizu has shared indoor and open-air hot spring baths, plus a reserved private bath. Tattoos should be fully covered before using the shared bathing areas. If your tattoo cannot be fully covered, use the reserved private bath instead.

Facilities

AWA Nishiizu has AWA BAR, a lobby lounge, a library corner, a garden terrace, a second-floor restaurant, shared indoor and open-air hot spring baths, a reserved private bath, an amenity bar on the first floor, Wi-Fi, and payment by credit card or electronic money.

AWA BAR is one of the main features of the stay. You can enjoy Shizuoka sake selected from local breweries, original sencha created with a Shizuoka tea master, beer, wine, citrus drinks, mocktails, and seasonal drinks such as freshly roasted hojicha or hot wine. Drinks from the bar can be enjoyed in the lounge, garden, or your room.

The library corner gives you books to read during your stay, and the garden terrace gives you an outdoor space for drinks, reading, stargazing, or seasonal experiences. The amenity bar keeps the room setup simple while letting you pick up skincare, toothbrushes, razors, hairbrushes, hair ties, cotton swabs, and other items when needed.

Activities

AWA Nishiizu includes easy activities that match the slower pace of Heda. Rental bicycles are available, and a ride to Toda Port takes about five minutes. E-bikes are also available in limited numbers. You can cycle toward the harbor, look for sunset views over Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji when the weather is clear, or use the bike for a short trip to dinner in town.

Inside the property, you can reserve a private room for Zen word calligraphy or video-based yoga. The yoga programs focus on better sleep, with options for before bed and after waking. The meditation room can be used privately, so the activity feels easy even if you are new to yoga or calligraphy.

The garden terrace and library also give you simple ways to spend time without leaving the property. You can take a drink outside, read in the lounge, or stay close to the baths and bar for a restful evening.

Additional Features

AWA Nishiizu suits you well when you want an all-inclusive stay built around Shizuoka drinks, fermented food, Toda Onsen, and a quiet Heda setting. Check-in starts at 15:00, and check-out is at 10:00 unless your stay plan sets a different time.

You also have a night meal, AWA BAR drink service, shared hot spring baths, a reserved private bath, free in-house activities, rental bicycles, e-bikes in limited numbers, a garden terrace, a library, Wi-Fi, and a cashless payment system. Children in elementary school grade three and below cannot stay.
