Overview

APA Hotel Fukui Katamachi places Fukui’s dining and nightlife directly outside the door. Located on the main street of the Katamachi entertainment district, the hotel makes it easy to enjoy local restaurants, bars, and evening venues without arranging transport back at the end of the night.

Fukui Station’s West Exit is about 15 minutes away on foot, while Fukui and Fukui-Kita interchanges are around 20 minutes away by car. This central position works well for business travel, weekend breaks, and sightseeing across Fukui Prefecture.

The combination of compact rooms, a curry-focused breakfast buffet, and an extensive natural hot spring spa adds more comfort than you may expect from a city hotel. After a full day, you can return for an open-air bath, sauna session, or quiet rest before heading upstairs to your room.

Accommodation

APA Hotel Fukui Katamachi has 247 rooms across its Main Building and Annex. Room choices include singles, small doubles, doubles, twins, and a wheelchair-friendly twin room.

Single rooms measure 11㎡, making them a practical choice for solo travel and short business trips. Double rooms offer 14㎡ with a 140-centimetre-wide bed, while twin rooms provide 17㎡ and two separate beds. The wheelchair-friendly twin room is the largest option at 30㎡ and allows easier movement around the room.

Each room focuses on efficient use of space and comfortable sleep. APA’s Cloud Fit mattress, original pillow, soft duvet, air conditioning, refrigerator, television, desk, electric kettle, tea set, nightwear, hairdryer, washlet toilet, towels, and toiletries help you settle in quickly.

Free Wi-Fi and wired internet are available throughout your stay. The television provides hotel information, screen mirroring, and updates on congestion in the large bath, making it easier to choose a quieter time for your soak.

Dining

Breakfast is served at Restaurant Ashirwad on the first floor of the Main Building. The buffet combines four authentic Indian curries with around 30 Japanese and Western dishes, creating a more distinctive start to the day than a standard business-hotel breakfast.

You can enjoy curry with rice or bread, then add salads, warm dishes, and lighter breakfast choices according to your appetite. Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:00, with last orders at 9:30, making it suitable for both early departures and slower mornings.

For dinner, Arancia serves Italian dishes with a focus on ingredients from Fukui Prefecture. Its location inside the hotel gives you a convenient alternative when you prefer not to head back into Katamachi after sightseeing or work. The surrounding district also gives you plenty of choices for izakaya dining, local seafood, ramen, and late-night meals.

Onsen and wellness

APA Spa Fukui Katamachi is one of the hotel’s strongest features. Located within the property, the spa combines natural alkaline simple hot spring water with heated baths, giving you ten bathing options across the separate men’s and women’s areas.

Both bathing areas include natural hot spring tubs and an open-air bath. Additional heated baths, dry saunas, cold-water baths, washing spaces, and outdoor resting chairs allow you to create your own bathing routine.

The natural spring water is managed through added water, heating, and circulation filtration to maintain comfortable bathing conditions. You can enjoy the large baths from 6:00 to midnight during your stay, making an early-morning soak or late-evening visit easy to fit into your schedule.

A relaxation room gives you space to cool down after bathing, while massage treatments are available for deeper rest. Take your room key and towels from your room when visiting the spa.

Guests with tattoos

Tattoos are accepted in the large public bath only when they can be fully covered with no more than two designated cover stickers measuring 10 cm by 12 cm each.

Tattoos that cannot be covered within this limit are not accepted in the public bath. The hotel does not offer a private or reservable bath.

Facilities

APA Hotel Fukui Katamachi supports an efficient city stay with app-based one-second check-in, express check-out, free luggage storage on the day of arrival and departure, free Wi-Fi, wired internet, microwaves, vending machines, and coin-operated laundry facilities.

The laundry machines are located inside the changing areas near the spa and are available during spa opening hours. This makes the hotel practical for longer business trips or multi-stop journeys through Hokuriku.

Paid affiliated parking is available around one minute from the hotel, including a mechanical garage and flat parking area. Spaces are offered on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved. The mechanical garage has vehicle size restrictions, so larger or taller cars may need to use nearby public parking.

Activities

The Katamachi location puts food and nightlife within easy reach, but it also works well for exploring Fukui’s cultural attractions.

Fukui Castle Ruins are close to Fukui Station and preserve parts of the original stone walls and moat. The station area is also home to Dinosaur Plaza, where large moving dinosaur models introduce you to the prefecture’s connection with fossil discoveries.

For a longer outing, Eiheiji Temple offers one of Fukui’s most important cultural experiences. Tojinbo brings dramatic coastal scenery, while the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum makes an excellent full-day destination for families and anyone interested in natural history.

The hotel also works as a base for visiting Maruoka Castle, Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins, and the seafood restaurants and coastal areas around the Sea of Japan.
