Overview

Kamenoi Hotel Kitsuregawa gives you a relaxing Tochigi hot spring stay surrounded by greenery, open skies, and wide views toward the Nikko and Nasu mountain ranges. From the observation room on the top floor, you can take in the landscape as it changes with the season and time of day.

Your stay centers on Kitsuregawa Onsen, seasonal Tochigi dining, and easy time together. Soak in one of Japan’s three famous “beauty skin” hot springs, enjoy kaiseki-style meals made with local ingredients, then slow the evening down with a complimentary bowl of Kamenoi’s original dandan noodles.

Accommodation

You can choose from Japanese-style rooms, twin rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, a special Japanese-Western room with an open-air bath, barrier-free rooms, and dog-friendly rooms. The room selection makes the hotel easy to enjoy whether you want tatami, beds, extra space, or a stay with your dog.

For more privacy, choose the Special Japanese-Western-Style Room with Open-Air Bath. This 50㎡ room combines a Japanese room with a twin room, so you can enjoy both tatami relaxation and bed-style comfort. The open-air bath in this room uses heated water rather than hot spring water, giving you a private bath option alongside the main onsen baths.

The Japanese-style Twin Room has Ryukyu-style tatami and two Simmons semi-double beds, creating a relaxed Japanese feel with the ease of sleeping in a bed. Traditional Japanese rooms include 8-tatami and 10-tatami layouts, giving you a simple space to stretch out on tatami.

Western-style choices include Standard Twin rooms, Standard Twin rooms with bath, and Semi-Double rooms with bath. The Japanese-Western Room with bath has a 4.5-tatami Japanese space and a twin room separated by sliding doors, so you can move between two different moods in one room.

If you want easier movement, the barrier-free room includes two electric beds, a sliding entrance door, handrails, and a small raised seating area. All rooms are non-smoking and include free Wi-Fi, slippers, bath towels, towels, toothbrushes, an electric kettle, hair dryer, TV, safe, washlet toilet, and tea set.

If you are travelling with your dog, you can choose from 10 dog-friendly rooms across five types, including twin, twin with bath, semi-double with bath, and Japanese-style rooms. Dog items include a food bowl, deodorizing spray, pet sheet tray, adhesive cleaner, hair removal cleaner, paper towels, cage, walking light, paw towel, and dog bath towel.

Dining

Dinner brings you kaiseki-style cuisine prepared with seasonal ingredients from the Kitsuregawa and Tochigi area. You can enjoy dishes built around local flavours such as Tochigi Wagyu, Kitsuregawa ayu, Nikko yuba, Yashiomasu trout, Nasu pork, Tochigi rice, and seasonal vegetables.

For a richer dinner, the premium-style courses feature Tochigi Wagyu in dishes such as teppanyaki, shabu-shabu, or sukiyaki, depending on the season. Seasonal menus may also include ayu, abalone, yuba, sashimi, rice cooked with seasonal ingredients, and desserts that change with the time of year.

You can also add special à la carte dishes, including Yashiomasu rainbow trout sashimi, salt-grilled ayu, Kitsuregawa ayu sashimi, ayu sushi, ayu tempura, and grilled fish-sauce-dried ayu when available. Children’s meals are also available, with options for elementary school children and preschool children.

Breakfast is served at Restaurant Kitsuregawa from 7:00 to 9:00. Dinner is served from 17:30 to 21:00, with last order at 20:00. Later in the evening, you can enjoy Kamenoi’s complimentary original dandan noodles from 21:00 to 22:30, with red, black, and white sesame flavours.

Onsen and Wellness

Kitsuregawa Onsen is one of Japan’s three famous hot springs for beautiful skin, alongside Ureshino Onsen in Saga and Hinokami Onsen in Shimane. The water is a sodium-chloride hot spring, known for its smooth, warming feel.

The large public bath includes a spacious main bath, reclining bath, and open-air bath. You can soak from 10:30 to 24:00 and again from 5:00 to 9:00, giving you time for both evening and morning bathing. On Wednesdays, the public bath opens from 12:30 after maintenance.

For more privacy, you can reserve a private bath with both indoor and open-air bathing spaces. The private bath is available from 15:00 to 22:00, with the final slot starting at 21:00, and costs 1,980 yen for 50 minutes.

Day-use bathing is also available, so you can enjoy the hot spring even without an overnight stay. The large public bath is open for day use from 10:30 to 21:00, with final reception at 20:00.

Guests with tattoos

If you have tattoos, you cannot use the public bath when they are visible. You can use the bath if your tattoo is fully covered with a tattoo-cover sticker so it cannot be seen by others. For a more private bathing experience, you can reserve the private bath in advance. The special Japanese-Western room also gives you an in-room open-air bath, though this bath uses heated water rather than hot spring water.
