Overview

glampark Akazawa Onsen brings together outdoor comfort and source-fed hot spring bathing in Nasushiobara, Tochigi. Set within the grounds of Akazawa Onsen Ryokan in Shiobara Onsen, this glamping retreat offers a rare combination: dome-style accommodation, private BBQ space, river and forest scenery, and access to natural hot spring baths.

With stays limited to 2 groups per day, the experience feels calm, personal, and easy to enjoy without the busy atmosphere of a large resort. The domes are fully air-conditioned, making the stay comfortable across the seasons, while the surrounding nature adds the feeling of a simple outdoor escape.

This is a good choice for travelers who want the fun of glamping without giving up warm meals, proper bedding, private facilities, and a real onsen experience.

Accommodation

Accommodation centers on spacious dome tents with large windows that bring the outdoor setting close. Each dome is about 28㎡ and can accommodate up to 4 people, making it suitable for couples, friends, and small families.

You can choose between a Riverside View Terrace and a Forest View Terrace. The riverside option gives you a closer connection to the water and open scenery, while the forest-view option creates a quieter woodland atmosphere.

Inside the dome, you have 4 single beds, air conditioning, outlets, and a hairdryer. A separate toilet and shower are located next to the tent, though there is no bathtub inside the private shower area. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, pajamas, hand soap, toothbrush set, bath towel, and face towel.

Each dome also has its own covered BBQ space, so meals remain easy even when the weather changes. Free Wi-Fi is available around the domes and inside the ryokan.

Dining

Dining at glampark Akazawa Onsen keeps the outdoor feeling simple and satisfying. The Glamping BBQ Plan features local ingredients from Tochigi and Nasu-Shiobara, including Tochigi Wagyu beef, Nasu-Shiobara char, premium Yashio trout, homemade sausage, skillet dishes, Nasu Highland shiitake mushrooms, fresh vegetables, and venison rib steak.

The BBQ ingredients are prepared in advance, so you only need to grill and enjoy the meal in your private BBQ area. This makes the experience easy even if you are new to camping or outdoor cooking.

For a more ryokan-style meal, the Gourmet Glamping Plan includes creative Japanese-Western cuisine prepared by Akazawa Onsen Ryokan. If you prefer to bring your own food, the room-only plan allows an original BBQ experience with your own ingredients.

Breakfast is served at Akazawa Onsen Ryokan and follows a Japanese style, with rice, miso soup, and side dishes made with carefully selected ingredients from Nasu-Shiobara.

Onsen and Wellness

The hot spring experience is one of the main reasons to choose glampark Akazawa Onsen. The onsen is located at Akazawa Onsen Ryokan, the check-in location on the same grounds. The ryokan describes its water as source-fed, with no added water and no circulation.

The spring is a sodium-calcium chloride hot spring, with clear water and a smooth feel. The ryokan notes that the water is slightly lukewarm, making it suitable for longer, slower bathing.

You can use indoor baths and open-air baths at the ryokan. A private open-air bath is also available for 50 minutes, with the official glamping page listing the price at ¥1,000 tax included.

Guests with Tattoos

Since the property offers a private open-air bath, this may be the best option if you have visible tattoos and want a more private bathing experience.

Facilities

You have access to:

  • Natural hot spring baths, including indoor and open-air options
  • Free on-site parking
  • Private BBQ space beside each tent
  • Wi-Fi access
  • Terrace seating and outdoor lounge areas
  • Air conditioning and heating inside all dome tents

Activities

The surrounding Nasushiobara area gives you plenty of ways to enjoy nature. You can take quiet walks, enjoy riverside views, or spend evenings stargazing near your tent. Cooler nights create an ideal atmosphere for relaxing outdoors and enjoying the calm surroundings.

You can also explore the wider Shiobara onsen area during the day, discovering nearby hot springs and local sights before returning to your tent in the evening.
