Overview

Step into a storybook setting at Hagoromo Hotel, where legend and landscape come together in Miho no Matsubara, a World Heritage Site. This traditional Japanese inn sits among pine trees that stretch toward the sea, just a short walk from the waves. From the moment you arrive, you’ll hear the soft murmur of the ocean and catch the scent of pine in the air. The tale of the celestial maiden’s robe lives on here—and so can your own travel story.

Accommodation

Hagoromo Hotel offers four room types, all crafted in traditional sukiya style. Each one invites you to relax in a quiet, refined atmosphere.

Miyabi: These ground-floor rooms face the garden that leads to the pine forest. You’ll soak in a cypress bathtub filled with mineral-rich water from the Okitsu River, just steps from your futon. The layout includes two tatami rooms, ideal for 1 to 4 people. The room is close to the large bath, making it a good choice if you prefer minimal walking.

Tsuzumi: This spacious room features a second tatami area and sleeps up to 5 people. Families or small groups often choose this style for its extra space and authentic design.

Western-style room: This is the only Western-style option in the hotel and includes a small tatami alcove next to twin beds. The Simmons mattresses help you rest fully, and the cozy layout suits solo travelers or couples.

All rooms include yukata, tea sets, humidifiers, a selection of POLA skincare, and soft lighting that suits the relaxed pace of the ryokan.

Dining

You’ll enjoy dinner made by a chef recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as a Goodwill Ambassador for Japanese Cuisine. Every dish is handmade, right down to the garnish. The menu changes monthly and features ingredients that reflect the season—sometimes even hinting at the season that just passed, a style known as nagori.

Start your meal with sweet sake and appetizers like grilled sea bream and simmered vegetables. Enjoy fresh sashimi served thick-cut for full flavor. Try the local specialty: Orido eggplant, a vegetable so prized it once appeared in samurai dreams. Dishes like steamed abalone, miso-grilled eggplant, and snow crab bring a taste of Suruga Bay right to your plate.

For breakfast, the ryokan prepares handmade side dishes like simmered root vegetables, grilled fish, and kuromon hanpen, a local delicacy. Don’t miss the zuke-maguro ochazuke, slices of marinated tuna served with fragrant roasted green tea—a favorite morning dish.

You can dine in a shared hall or request a private room for a quieter experience.

Onsen and Wellness

The large bath area features a striking cypress ceiling built by master carpenters. Steam rises toward the beams like a celestial dance, a tribute to the legend of the heavenly maiden. Inside, you’ll hear soft classical music while you soak in water drawn from the Okitsu River.

The garden-view open-air bath is small but offers a secluded space surrounded by natural rock. The open-air bath alternates between men and women, so check the schedule when you arrive. The hotel cleans the baths each evening for your comfort.

Both bathing areas include quality amenities such as POLA and Mikimoto soaps and skincare. You’ll also find Mt. Fuji spring water in the changing rooms—perfect for rehydrating after your soak.

Please note, this is not a hot spring. The baths use mineral-rich river water, which still leaves your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

Guests with Tattoos

There is no public restriction noted, but if you’re concerned, ask the staff about using the baths during the quieter hours. You can also enjoy the cypress bath in your room if you book the Miyabi suite.

The ryokan blends peaceful interiors with soft lighting and traditional materials. Rooms don’t offer views of Mt. Fuji due to local height regulations, but on clear days, you can walk beyond the pine grove and admire the famous peak across Suruga Bay.
