Overview

Arimakan welcomes you to Kaminoyama Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture, where you can experience deep relaxation and heartfelt hospitality. This ryokan combines traditional charm with comfort, offering you meals in your room, free private baths, and access to more than ten different bathing options. With barrier-free access and warm, personal service, Arimakan creates a stay that’s both relaxing and easy for everyone.

Accommodation

You can choose from six distinct room types based on your travel style, group size, and preferences:

  • Standard 10-Mat Tatami Room: Enjoy a classic Japanese experience in the most frequently booked room at Arimakan. With enough space for up to five people, it’s ideal for quiet, restful evenings on the tatami.
  • Modern Japanese Room with Twin Beds (35㎡): This renovated room includes a tatami area and twin beds for a perfect mix of tradition and comfort. With features like an entry ramp and a redesigned washbasin, this room suits couples and travelers looking for added convenience.
  • Western Twin Room with Massage Chair: This exclusive room is limited to one group per day. Relax in a western-style twin setup and enjoy meals while looking out over the landscape. A massage chair adds a soothing touch.
  • Japanese-Western Room: This bright room includes a 10-mat tatami space, two beds, and a vanity area. It’s ideal for groups or families who want flexibility during their stay.
  • Modern Japanese Room with Twin Beds and Lounge (70㎡): One of the largest room types, this room includes twin beds, a spacious lounge, and a massage chair. The layout is barrier-free, with sliding doors, handrails in the bathroom, and no steps from entrance to bed.
  • Premium Japanese-Western Suite: This is the most luxurious option, offering a 10-mat tatami space, twin beds, a large sitting area, and your own massage chair. Designed for extended comfort, the suite has flat floors, accessible fixtures, and a private, peaceful atmosphere.

All rooms are non-smoking. If you smoke, please use the designated area in the first-floor courtyard.

Dining

At Arimakan, every meal highlights the flavors of Yamagata, including its renowned wagyu beef and local seasonal ingredients.

You’ll enjoy both breakfast and dinner in your room, allowing you to dine privately and at your own pace. The staff keeps visits to a minimum during meals, allowing you uninterrupted time with your companions. For groups of four or more, meals are served in a private dining room.

Dinner usually features Yamagata wagyu sukiyaki or shabu-shabu, paired with local vegetables and traditional dishes. Some plans allow you to choose between hotpot, seafood, or other seasonal specialties. If you’re traveling with children, kid-friendly meals are also available.

Breakfast also arrives in your room and often includes items like grilled wagyu on ceramic plates and soft-boiled eggs cooked in the ryokan’s natural hot spring water.

Allergies can be accommodated with advance notice.

Onsen and Wellness

Soak in the natural mineral-rich waters of Kaminoyama Onsen at Arimakan. You’ll have access to more than ten different bathing options, with each one offering its own unique atmosphere.

Private Baths (Free First Use): Choose from three private baths: Kihouseki Standing Bath, Pamukkale, and Yawaragi. Each is designed for different needs—whether you want a deep, bubbly soak, a playful family bath, or a universally accessible design.

Panoramic Rooftop Open-Air Bath: Located on the 7th floor, this bath lets you gaze over the mountains and town. Enjoy seasonal views—fresh greenery in spring, blue skies in summer, red leaves in fall, and snow in winter. The bath is open throughout the day and night.

Romantic Bath “Roman-yu”: This area includes three baths: a soft-water gemstone bath, a gemstone sauna, and a large source-fed tub. Women especially love the silky skin effects of the Kihouseki bath here.

Golden Bath “Kin-no-Yu”: Built on the original hot spring site from 1921, this indoor bath includes a large source-fed tub, a Shigaraki-ware ceramic bath, and a gemstone sauna.

All baths are open 24 hours, except for a short daily cleaning time. Sauna access rotates by gender: the Roman-yu sauna is for women during the day and men overnight; Kin-no-Yu operates in reverse.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can use the private family baths. Ask at check-in about availability and reservations.
