Kannon Onsen is a secluded hot spring area in the mountains of southern Izu, in Shizuoka Prefecture. Reached by winding roads and surrounded by forest, it feels quieter and more remote than the better-known resort towns along the peninsula’s coast, making it a natural fit for travelers drawn to a slower, more tucked-away side of Izu.
The appeal here is less about sightseeing landmarks than atmosphere: steep green hills, narrow valleys, and the deeply ingrained rhythm of an onsen retreat. Kannon Onsen is best approached as a place to pause rather than rush through, with the landscape itself shaping the experience and giving this corner of Izu its calm, understated character.
