Narita Onsen

Narita, in Chiba Prefecture, is better known for Narita International Airport and the temple town around Narita-san Shinshō-ji than for being one of Japan’s classic hot spring resorts. Even so, visitors will find hot spring bathing in and around the Narita area, often as part of hotels or day-use bathing facilities that make an easy stop before or after a flight.

That setting gives Narita Onsen a slightly different character from the country’s older spa towns. A visit here is less about strolling a historic onsen district and more about taking a quiet pause on the edge of a busy travel hub, with the added appeal of Narita’s traditional streets, temple grounds, and local food nearby.
