Overview

KOFUYUDEN BENIYA offers you a calm and timeless experience in the countryside of Awara, Fukui. You can let the natural light and gentle breeze slow your pace as you enjoy a deep connection with nature. The ryokan invites you to soak in Awara’s hot springs, long celebrated as gifts from Mount Hakusan. While you relax in the peaceful setting, you can reflect, unwind, and recharge—surrounded by beauty, quiet, and history that goes back to 1884.

Accommodation

Choose from 17 rooms, each with a private partly open-air bath using 100% natural hot spring water that flows directly from the source. Whether you sleep on a futon or a bed, every room gives you space to relax and enjoy quiet moments.

The Suite Room offers 86.2 square meters of sukiya-style space. Stretch out in the lounge, gaze out from your bath, and fall asleep in a bed crafted from fragrant Yoshino cypress.

The Superior Rooms come in both bed and futon styles. Some are designed for up to five people, with layouts ranging from open spaces to rooms with tatami dining areas. You can enjoy peaceful interiors that blend wood, stone, and soft lighting. The Superior Room for two people offers an ideal setup for older travelers, combining comfort with thoughtful design.

The Standard Rooms give you a simple, quiet place to rest. Choose between bed or futon styles, or pick a room with an extra space for larger groups. Many of these rooms feature sliding doors, tatami floors, and access to private dining areas, so you can enjoy your meals without stepping into your bedroom. Some rooms also include small gardens that add a natural touch to your stay.

Every room includes Wi-Fi, and all spaces are non-smoking. If you wish to smoke, the ryokan provides a designated area outside.

Dining

Your stay includes carefully prepared kaiseki meals served in your room. These seasonal dishes highlight the flavors of Fukui’s land and sea. The chefs work with local farmers and fishermen to bring you the freshest ingredients, including mountain vegetables, local seafood, and free-range eggs.

In winter, you can enjoy Fukui’s iconic Echizen Crab, caught in nearby Mikuni and Echizen ports and kept fresh in special tanks until it’s ready to be cooked for you. At dinner, savor steamed rice as the final course—Beniya’s signature dish that completes your meal with comforting flavor.

In the morning, the ryokan serves a healthy breakfast featuring farm-fresh eggs, seasonal produce, and ingredients delivered straight from nearby farms.

Onsen and Wellness

Every room at Beniya includes a private bath with hot spring water from a unique source. These partly open-air baths let you relax in privacy while enjoying the natural surroundings.

You can also use the large communal bath, which runs from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next day. This bath uses water from four on-site hot spring wells, where 70°C spring water flows at 70 liters per minute. Beniya’s spring water may help with joint pain, skin problems, fatigue, and more. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you step into the mineral-rich water.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can still enjoy the hot springs. Use your in-room bath anytime, or check with the front desk about options for private bathing in the large communal area.

Facilities

The ryokan includes a peaceful Japanese garden, a designated smoking area, and reliable Wi-Fi in all areas. Each room has a calm and distinct design, combining traditional style with thoughtful touches. Though you’ll enjoy quiet, you can stay connected if needed.
