Overview

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean gives you a relaxed seaside stay in Higashiizu, with the Pacific Ocean stretching out in front of the hotel. Every room faces the sea, so you can wake up to open water views, listen to the waves, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being close to the coast.

This is a casual ryokan-style hotel with natural hot spring baths, spacious Japanese-style rooms, buffet dining, and easy access to the Atagawa area. You can use it as a quiet base for a beachside break, a family trip, or a simple Izu getaway with hot springs, ocean views, and local sightseeing close by.

Accommodation

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean has 71 rooms, and all rooms offer ocean views. The room style is simple and spacious, with many rooms using tatami flooring, futon bedding, or a Japanese-Western layout. This makes the hotel especially easy to use when you travel with family or a small group.

The Standard Family Room is a Japanese-style room of about 34.8 square meters, with a 10-tatami layout and futon bedding. The Superior Family Room is a larger Japanese-style room of about 68 square meters, giving you more space to relax together. The Deluxe Family Room is a Japanese-Western room of about 61.2 square meters, with both futons and single beds, so you can enjoy the feel of a ryokan while still having Western-style sleeping comfort.

For more space, you can choose the Superior Suite, a Japanese-Western room of about 69.7 square meters with a 10-tatami main room, twin bedroom, and sofa area. The Deluxe Suite is another spacious Japanese-Western option of about 68 square meters. If you prefer beds, the Standard Twin Room measures about 34.8 square meters and uses two tatami-style beds.

Rooms include a bath, separate toilet, LCD TV, refrigerator, kettle, tea set, individual air conditioning, washlet toilet, safe, hangers, towels, bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrush set, razor, brush, yukata, slippers, and basic bath items. Yukata are available in the 2nd-floor lobby. Internet connection may be strongest around the front desk and lobby, and some rooms may have limited Wi-Fi connection, with pocket Wi-Fi rental available in limited numbers.

Dining

Meals at Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean are served in the restaurant on the 4th floor. Dinner is usually a Japanese, Western, and Chinese buffet, with fresh seafood, prepared side dishes, and a casual spread that works well for families and groups. Some dinner plans include all-you-can-drink soft drinks and alcohol, making the meal feel easy and good-value.

Breakfast is usually a Japanese and Western buffet, so you can start the day with rice, warm dishes, lighter Western items, and simple morning favorites before heading out along the coast. Depending on the number of people staying, meals may be served as individual set meals instead of buffet style.

Breakfast is usually served from 7:00 to 9:00. Dinner is usually served in two seatings and runs until 21:00. If you book a dinner plan, you should arrive by 18:00, and you should contact the hotel if you expect to arrive later. Food allergy support may be possible when you share the details in advance.

Onsen and Wellness

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean uses natural hot spring water from Atagawa Onsen. The hotel has two shared hot spring bath areas, Asahi no Yu and Namioto no Yu. Both have indoor and open-air bathing, and the baths switch between men and women, so you may be able to enjoy both spaces during your stay.

Asahi no Yu gives you a classic hot spring atmosphere with an indoor bath and open-air bath. Namioto no Yu has tatami flooring in the bath area, which gives the space a softer feel underfoot and can make bathing feel easier for children or older travelers. There is no sauna.

The spring quality is sodium-calcium chloride spring water. The water is associated with relief for nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, chronic skin concerns, and arteriosclerosis. The baths are usually open from 15:00 to 24:00 and again in the early morning, though morning closing time may vary slightly, so you should check the posted bath schedule when you arrive.

A paid private open-air bath is also available by reservation at the front desk. This gives you a more private way to enjoy the hot spring, with use usually available in the evening and early morning.

Guests with Tattoos

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean does not allow tattoos in the large public baths or in the summer pool. If you have tattoos, use the paid private open-air bath instead.

Facilities

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean keeps the stay simple and practical, with spaces that support both hot spring time and casual seaside travel. You can relax in the lounge, enjoy meals in the restaurant, browse the shop, play table tennis, or book a karaoke room for an easy evening indoors. The hotel also has vending machines and paid coin laundry, which can be helpful during longer Izu trips.

The hot spring area includes shared indoor and open-air baths, along with a paid private open-air bath for a more personal soak. Free parking is available on a first-come basis, and a free shuttle runs between Izu-Atagawa Station and the hotel during set daytime hours. Courier service is also available from the hotel, making it easier to send luggage or souvenirs onward.

Activities

The hotel puts you close to the coast, so you can enjoy slow walks by the sea, sunrise views, and the sound of waves throughout your stay. Atagawa Banana Crocodile Garden is about five minutes away by car, making it one of the easiest local sightseeing stops from the hotel.

You can also visit Izu Animal Kingdom in about 15 minutes by car, or head toward Izu-Kogen for places such as Izu Granillumi, Izu Teddy Bear Museum, and New York Lamp Museum and Flower Garden. In spring, Kawazu Sakura can be reached by train in about 20 minutes, giving you access to one of Izu’s most famous early cherry blossom areas.

If you prefer to keep the stay simple, you can spend your time soaking in the hot spring, enjoying the ocean view from your room, playing table tennis, and taking quiet walks around the Atagawa coast.

Additional Features

Check-in starts at 15:00, and check-out is by 10:00. If you arrive later than your planned time, you should contact the hotel. If you have dinner included, arrive by 18:00 whenever possible. The front entrance is locked late at night for security, so you should speak with the front desk before going out after hours.

The hotel provides free shuttle service from Izu-Atagawa Station during set hours, usually from 8:00 to 10:30 and from 15:00 to 18:00. Free parking is available on a first-come basis, and large vehicles should be discussed with the hotel in advance.
