Overview
Stay at Guesthouse Riraku, a small six-room inn in Isawa Onsen, around ten minutes on foot from JR Isawa-Onsen Station. You can enjoy the character of a Japanese inn while keeping the freedom of a self-catering stay.
A traditional tea room, three private hot spring baths, a shared kitchen, and a courtyard-facing relaxation room create an unhurried setting for solo travel, a couple’s trip, or time with family and friends. Because every hot spring bath is reserved for one group at a time, you can soak without sharing the water with anyone outside your group.
You can also reserve the entire building for up to 20 people. This option works well for a family gathering, club trip, study retreat, or company stay where you want private use of all six rooms and the common areas.
Accommodation
Choose from six individual Japanese rooms named Matsu, Kiri, Hagi, Kikyo, Take, and Kiku. Capacities range from two to six people, allowing you to select a room that suits the size of your group.
In Matsu, you have two connected rooms, a private kitchen, and your own balcony. The room accommodates up to six people and gives you extra flexibility when you plan to cook or stay for several nights.
Kiri accommodates up to four people and includes its own bathroom. Hagi and Kiku each accommodate up to two people, while Kikyo and Take each accommodate up to three.
Japanese rooms use futon bedding with a supportive high-resilience mattress layer designed to reduce pressure on your back. This gives you the experience of sleeping on tatami without relying on a thin futon alone.
Your room includes air conditioning, a television, refrigerator access, towels, bed linen, slippers, a toothbrush set, shampoo, soap, and a hair dryer. The television supports terrestrial channels and online services such as Netflix and YouTube. You need to use your own account for subscription-based streaming.
Most room categories use the private hot spring bathing facilities rather than an in-room bath. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Dining
You do not have an onsite restaurant or fixed dinner service, giving you the freedom to plan meals around your own schedule.
Selected accommodation arrangements include a simple prepared breakfast. The current morning offering centres on house-seasoned rice and is served as a compact Japanese breakfast suitable for an early start.
You can also prepare your own meals in the shared kitchen. Cooking equipment includes a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, tableware, and basic utensils. Matsu has an additional private kitchen inside the room.
Supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, and local food shops can be reached around Isawa Onsen. You can buy Yamanashi fruit, vegetables, noodles, wine, and other regional ingredients before returning to cook.
Onsen and Wellness
Choose from three natural hot spring baths, all reserved privately for one group at a time. Each session normally lasts 45 minutes, and you select your bathing times after check-in on a first-come basis. The number of operating baths can change according to the day and occupancy.
The Cypress Bath accommodates up to two people and receives free-flowing natural spring water. You can reserve it 24 hours a day for a separate charge. Because no circulation system controls the water, its temperature can change slightly with the season and weather.
The Stone Bath accommodates up to three people and operates during scheduled afternoon and evening periods until 23:15. The natural spring water is circulated and heated only during winter, when the source temperature is too low to maintain a comfortable bath.
The Rock Bath is the largest option and accommodates up to seven people. It normally operates on Saturday evenings from 18:00 to 23:15, although its availability can be limited according to occupancy. The bath uses heated, circulated spring water and also includes a cool-water bathing area.
The spring is an alkaline simple hot spring with a source temperature of approximately 43.7°C and a pH of around 8.8. The water has a soft feel and contains a relatively light level of dissolved minerals, making it suitable for a gentle, longer soak.
Riraku does not have a communal bath, open-air bath, sauna, or hot spring bath inside the standard rooms.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use all operating hot spring baths if you have tattoos. Every bath is reserved privately for your group, and you do not need to cover your tattoos.
Facilities
Spend quiet time in the carefully designed tea room, where traditional details create a suitable setting for reflection, conversation, or your own informal tea experience.
The courtyard-facing relaxation room gives you space to cool down after bathing. When you reserve the whole property, you can also use this room for a meeting, study session, meal, or small group gathering.
The shared kitchen includes cooking hobs, tableware, a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and basic cooking tools. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and common spaces.
Laundry equipment is available with selected whole-property arrangements, making the inn suitable for a longer stay or group trip.
The garden and building include steps and changes in floor level. The property does not follow a barrier-free or universal-design layout, so it is not suitable when you need full step-free access.
Free parking is available for up to ten vehicles, with five spaces near the front gate and five inside the grounds. Small buses and minibuses can also be accommodated. Overflow parking is available nearby when the main spaces are full.
Activities
Walk to nearby wineries and explore one of Yamanashi’s best-known wine areas. Two wineries can be visited as part of a walking route from Isawa-Onsen Station, allowing you to enjoy tastings and local products without driving.
Mars Yamanashi Winery and Monde Winery introduce you to wines produced with grapes grown in Yamanashi. Tasting and tour arrangements depend on the winery’s operating schedule.
You can also visit Hatta Family Shoin, a historic residence connected with the Takeda and Tokugawa periods, or walk through Isawa Onsen’s streets, parks, footbath areas, and seasonal riverside scenery.
During the fruit season, farms around Fuefuki offer peaches, grapes, strawberries, and other produce. Fruit-picking periods depend on the crop and weather conditions.
For a longer day trip, travel to Shosenkyo Gorge for walking and mountain scenery, visit Lake Kawaguchi for views of Mount Fuji, or explore the wineries and old streets of Katsunuma.
