Overview

Step into a unique ryokan experience that bridges two prefectures—literally. Hizenya Hotel sits on the border of Oita and Kumamoto, offering you a rare opportunity to relax in two places at once. Since its founding in 1690, this ryokan has welcomed travelers seeking the calming sound of the Tsuetate River and the colorful transformation of the surrounding trees through the seasons. Whether you arrive from Fukuoka, Oita, or beyond, you’ll find Hizenya easily accessible and ready to deliver an unforgettable journey through Kyushu.

Accommodation

Choose from several room types designed to match your travel style and preferences. Each space invites you to slow down and reconnect with comfort and nature.

Premium Room with Private Open-Air Bath: Located on the top floor, this suite gives you panoramic views and a private bath where you can soak while the seasons change around you. The two-room layout includes both “Kinkaku” and “Ginkaku” rooms, offering elegant spaces to relax and unwind.

Sukiyamaru Premium Japanese-Style Room: Enjoy an upgraded stay with a large tatami room, a four-person sofa area, and a dedicated vanity space. Every detail reflects a refined sense of calm.

Standard Japanese-Style Room: These rooms range from 10 to 21 tatami mats in size. Some are maisonette-style, especially those on the Oita side, offering extra space for larger groups or families.

Japanese-Style Twin Room: If you prefer beds over futons, this room combines two Simmons semi-double beds with tatami flooring for a restful experience.

Standard Japanese-Western Room: Featuring both Japanese and Western touches, this space gives you a tatami area with a separate Western-style room. Enjoy views of the river and valley right from your window.

Maisonette: Ideal for larger groups, these two-story rooms offer twin beds on the lower level and tatami or triple bed rooms on the upper floor. Choose between river or mountain views.

Every room includes free Wi-Fi, yukata, and essential toiletries. While most rooms have a bath, two do not—so be sure to confirm your preferences when booking.

Dining

At Hizenya, your stay includes meals that reflect the richness of Kyushu’s food culture.

Kaiseki Cuisine: Taste seasonal dishes prepared with care, including a teppanyaki course that lets you compare Higo Wagyu from Kumamoto and Bungo Wagyu from Oita. Each course tells a story of the region’s flavors.sea

Buffet Dining: Watch chefs prepare dishes right in front of you at the open kitchen. The buffet includes regional ingredients, homemade dishes, and comforting options for all palates.

Breakfast Buffet: Start your morning with nearly 60 items including handmade specialties, local treats, and fresh Oguniya Jersey milk. Everything is crafted to energize you for the day ahead.
