Overview
Stay beside Lake Kawaguchi at Hotel Koryu, an all-inclusive hot spring hotel in the Fuji Five Lakes area of Yamanashi. Almost every room looks across the lake, although selected room categories do not include a lake view.
Your stay brings together natural hot spring baths, Japanese and Western buffet dining, drinks and snacks at set times, and more than 10,000 books inside the Manga Café Ryunosu. You can spend the day sightseeing around Lake Kawaguchi, then return for an open-air bath, dinner, and a quiet evening with a manga or board game.
The observation open-air bath gives you a wide view across Lake Kawaguchi toward the Southern Alps. At sunset, the mountains and lake take on warmer colors, giving you one of the best views within the property.
Accommodation
Choose from Japanese rooms with tatami and futon bedding, Western twin rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, barrier-free accommodation, and a Japanese room with its own open-air bath. Most highlighted room categories face Lake Kawaguchi.
The Lake-View Japanese Room with Open-Air Bath includes ten tatami mats and a window-side sitting area. You can soak in your private outdoor bath while looking across Lake Kawaguchi. The room also has an indoor unit bath, washbasin, Washlet toilet, television, heating, and air conditioning.
On the top floor, the Lake-View Western Twin gives you two single beds and an elevated view across the water. The mattresses use silver-ion technology designed to support a cleaner sleeping environment.
The top-floor Lake-View Japanese-Western Room combines twin beds with a separate tatami area. This spacious layout gives you the ease of sleeping in a bed while keeping the atmosphere of a Japanese room. It works particularly well when you travel with family or friends and want space to sit together.
The top-floor Lake-View Japanese Room provides ten tatami mats and futon bedding. You can enjoy the traditional layout while looking across the lake from the upper level of the building.
The barrier-free Japanese-Western room combines a tatami space with a twin bedroom. You can move from the entrance to the beds, bathroom, and toilet without steps. Two single beds use silver-ion mattresses, while the bathroom includes a unit bath and Washlet toilet.
A compact Japanese room is also available with six tatami mats and a 1.5-tatami wooden-floor area. This room has a private shower booth rather than a bathtub and does not promise a lake view.
Room facilities differ slightly by category, but standard features include a television, heating and air conditioning, washbasin, private bathroom or shower, towels, toothbrushes, yukata, and a hanten jacket. All accommodation rooms are non-smoking.
A limited-time Osomatsu-san collaboration adds another choice for anime fans. The collaboration includes a premium themed room, two standard room types, original illustrations, and exclusive items connected to the six main characters.
Dining
Dinner is served as a Japanese and Western buffet. One of the signature dishes is Joshu Rokkoku pork, slowly cooked for four hours with herbs to create tender roast pork.
You can also choose tempura, sashimi, local vegetables, simmered dishes, grilled dishes, Western food, salads, and desserts. Yamanashi’s hōtō noodles come with a selection of soups, allowing you to create a bowl that suits your taste.
Koshu Wine Beef can be added to selected dinner arrangements. This Yamanashi beef comes from cattle raised with grape lees left behind during winemaking, giving the meat a mild flavor without a heavy aftertaste. You need to request the upgrade no later than check-in, and availability depends on supplies.
On selected dates, dinner includes a live cutting presentation using seasonal fish delivered from Toyosu. You can watch the fish being prepared before enjoying it as freshly cut sashimi. The remaining fish may be used for ara-jiru soup at breakfast the following morning, reducing waste while bringing another flavor to the meal.
Breakfast is also served as a buffet. You can begin with freshly cooked Japanese rice, traditional side dishes, Western breakfast choices, and an obanzai section prepared with vegetables from Yamanashi.
Hotel Koryu’s Shingen chicken curry gives you a more substantial morning option. Freshly cooked pancakes are also available with fruit, syrup, and other toppings.
When dinner is included in your stay, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are unlimited during the meal. Choices include draft beer, highballs, several chūhai flavors, wine, shōchū, and local sake such as Kai no Kaiun. Soft drinks are available during breakfast.
Dinner is normally served from 18:00 to 20:30, with final entry at 19:30. Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 09:00, with final entry at 08:30. Menus can change with the season and ingredient supply. Food allergies require advance notice.
Onsen and Wellness
Hotel Koryu has a large public bath, a garden open-air bath, an observation open-air bath, and a reservable private bath.
The observation open-air bath, Houka-no-Yu, looks across Lake Kawaguchi toward the Southern Alps. Fukujusou is reserved for women, while Fujizakura is reserved for men. Both give you an open view of the lake and mountains, with sunset bringing particularly attractive colors.
On the first floor, the large bathing areas Shiraito and Otodome include spacious indoor pools, a waterfall-style bath, a walking bath, and access to the garden open-air bath. The outdoor rock bath places you close to the fresh air and garden surroundings.
The shared indoor and open-air baths are available from 15:00 until midnight and again from 05:30 to 09:30.
For more privacy, reserve the private bath for a 45-minute session. Sessions begin at 15 minutes past the hour and are available between 15:00 and 22:00. You can reserve before arrival or arrange a session during your stay, subject to availability.
The spring water is classified as a hypotonic, mildly alkaline spring containing calcium and sodium sulfate as well as calcium and sodium chloride. Recognised bathing indications include neuralgia, cuts, burns, eczema, atopic skin concerns, long-term skin conditions, and long-term digestive concerns.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use the large public bath and shared open-air baths when you have tattoos. You must follow Japanese bathing etiquette and behave considerately toward everyone using the bathing area.
The private bath is also available when you prefer to soak alone or with the people travelling with you. Advance reservations are accepted, and same-day availability may be limited.
Facilities
The all-inclusive service begins with a welcome drink bar in the lobby. You can enjoy coffee and other drinks between 15:00 and 22:00 and again from 06:00 to 10:00.
The dagashi bar provides Japanese sweets and nostalgic snacks from 15:00 to 20:00. An amenity bar lets you select the toiletries you need, while the yukata bar gives you a choice of designs to wear during your stay.
Board games such as playing cards, Uno, and The Game of Life are available to borrow. You can take them to your room for a relaxed evening after dinner or during wet weather.
Manga Café Ryunosu holds more than 10,000 books selected by Hotel Koryu’s former-manga-artist owner. The collection includes well-known manga, books you may not normally pick up, and character displays connected to manga and anime. You can use the café without an additional charge during an overnight stay, including before check-in when space permits. It opens from 08:00 to 22:00.
A children’s space on the second-floor lobby provides soft toys, cushions, books, toys, and origami. You can also spend time playing table tennis or reserve the karaoke room, which includes a mirror ball.
Outside, an approximately 1,000-tsubo herb and rose garden contains around 100 types of roses along with lavender, rosemary, and other herbs. Flowering times depend on the season.
The building also includes a souvenir shop, Restaurant Keyaki, a convention hall, and meeting spaces. All rooms and shared indoor areas are non-smoking, with smoking limited to designated areas.
Activities
You can rent an electric-assist bicycle from reception and explore the Lake Kawaguchi area from early morning until around sunset. The number of bicycles is limited, and you need to present identification. Children of elementary-school age and younger cannot use the rental bicycles.
A cycling route around the lake can take you to Kawaguchi Asama Shrine, Oishi Park, and Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace. Much of the lakeside route is relatively level, and blue markings help show the cycling course.
For a shorter outing, walk beside the lake or take a sightseeing cruise across Lake Kawaguchi. The Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway carries you up Mount Tenjo for views across the lake and toward Mt. Fuji when the weather is clear.
You can also visit Kubota Itchiku Art Museum, Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, Yamanashi Gem Museum, or Kawaguchiko Craft Park. Fuji-Q Highland is within easy reach when you want roller coasters, family attractions, and views of Mt. Fuji.
Back at Hotel Koryu, you can spend your free time in the manga café, play table tennis, use the karaoke room, borrow a board game, or walk through the rose and herb garden.
