Overview

Hotel Mujuan is a small Atami hot spring hotel set high above the coast, with sweeping views of Sagami Bay and Atami Castle. With only three rooms and one private room per floor, your stay feels quiet, spacious, and personal from the moment you arrive. Instead of a large resort atmosphere, you get a private-floor stay where the view, the bath, and the space become the main experience.

From your room, you can watch the sea shift with the light, see Atami Castle across the landscape, and enjoy the feeling of being above the town rather than inside the busy streets. This is a good choice when you want ocean views, private hot spring bathing, and a slower Atami stay with plenty of room to unwind.

Accommodation

You stay in a large ocean-view suite, with one room occupying each floor from the third to the fifth floor. Every room looks toward Sagami Bay and Atami Castle, and each room has its own ocean-view bath with natural hot spring water. The hotel has no elevator, so you use the stairs to reach each floor.

The fifth-floor Premium Suite Room gives you the highest viewpoint in the building. It has two bathtubs, with one set as a view bath, so you can enjoy the scenery while you soak. This room also has a mini kitchen and toaster, making it useful when you want to prepare something simple during your stay. A washer-dryer has also been added, which makes longer stays easier.

The fourth-floor Deluxe Suite Room includes a living space with a Japanese room beside it. From the bed, you can watch the sunrise over Sagami Bay, making the morning view one of the highlights of the stay. The third-floor Luxury Suite Room has a resort-style design with a more open, holiday-like feel, giving you a different mood while still keeping the same ocean-view setting.

Each room includes bath amenities, towels, yukata, skincare items on request, tea set, kettle, refrigerator, hair dryer, hair iron, blanket, massage chair, microwave, air purifier, and Wi-Fi. The rooms are designed for comfort and privacy, with enough space to spend time indoors rather than using the room only for sleep.

Dining

Dinner is not served in-house, so your evening meal is flexible. You can go into Atami for dinner, with restaurants around the city reachable by car or taxi in about seven minutes. You can also arrange delivery or a private chef, which works well when you want to keep the evening private and enjoy your meal without leaving the hotel.

For a special meal with a view, you can reserve the outdoor terrace BBQ space and bring your own food and drinks. The terrace looks toward Sagami Bay and Atami Castle, giving you a relaxed way to enjoy dinner outdoors. The BBQ space includes equipment such as a grill setup, table, chairs, tableware, refrigerator, rice cooker, and sink, so you can focus on the meal and the scenery. Reservations are needed by 18:00 the day before.

A free Western-style breakfast is available by reservation. You can enjoy it buffet-style in the second-floor restaurant while looking out toward the morning light over Sagami Bay. If you would like breakfast, you can request it at check-in.

Onsen and Wellness

Your hot spring experience takes place in your own room. Every room has an ocean-view bath filled with natural hot spring water from “Kamiya no Yu,” a weak alkaline spring with a pH of over 8.2. The water has a smooth feel on the skin, and you can soak whenever you like during your stay.

Guests with Tattoos

Tattoos are not an issue for bathing because each room has its own private hot spring bath. You do not need to use a shared public bath, so you can enjoy the onsen in your room with complete privacy.

Facilities

Hotel Mujuan keeps facilities intentionally limited. Instead of filling the property with entertainment spaces, the ryokan prioritizes silence, privacy, and uninterrupted views. You find quiet lounges where you can sit, think, or read without background noise.

Public areas mirror the room design, using wood, stone, and natural textures to maintain continuity throughout the property. Lighting stays soft and indirect, changing with the time of day rather than overpowering the space.

Staff interactions remain discreet and respectful, offering support when needed while preserving your sense of solitude.

Activities

Your main activity at Hotel Mujuan involves doing less. You spend time bathing, watching the sea, and allowing hours to pass without structure. Early mornings suit silent observation, while afternoons invite rest or reflection.

If you wish to explore, Atami’s coastline, gardens, and walking paths remain within reach. You can also enjoy seasonal events such as fireworks from a distance, viewed quietly from your room rather than crowded public areas.

Additional Features

Hotel Mujuan suits travelers who value privacy, restraint, and space over entertainment and spectacle. You choose this ryokan to disconnect from noise and schedules while maintaining comfort and refined service. Your stay focuses on stillness, repetition, and sensory clarity, offering an experience that feels both deeply personal and quietly luxurious in the heart of Atami.
