Overview
Hotel Seikoen places you at the heart of Nikko’s spiritual and cultural heritage. Located just a five-minute walk from the world-famous Toshogu Shrine, you stay in a traditional ryokan set within the quiet forested grounds of Nikko’s shrines and temples—part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by mountains and the serenity of sacred architecture, this is a place where you can escape daily distractions and immerse yourself in Japan’s timeless atmosphere.
The ryokan blends refined simplicity with warm hospitality. Each moment invites you to slow down, breathe in the cedar-scented air, and reflect on the beauty around you. Whether you soak in a steaming bath, enjoy a handmade kaiseki dinner, or sit quietly by the window overlooking a temple garden, Hotel Seikoen offers a quiet sanctuary from the noise of modern life.
Accommodation
You can choose from a variety of traditionally styled rooms, each with tatami flooring, low furniture, and a calming layout. Some rooms face the surrounding gardens and wooded mountains, while others open up toward the sacred grounds of Nikko’s famous shrines and temples. The rooms are spacious, clean, and ideal for couples, families, or solo travelers who want to fully experience the atmosphere of Nikko.
For a special stay, choose a suite with a Japanese-style room, Western-style bedroom, and a lounge area. Standard rooms range in size and layout, from compact spaces perfect for quiet reflection to larger rooms designed for extended stays or small groups.
Each room includes essentials like yukata robes, bath towels, toiletries, a fridge, safe, and an air purifier. Some rooms may not have private baths, so check the room description if you prefer that feature. Regardless of the type you choose, every room invites you to rest deeply and wake refreshed.
Dining
At Hotel Seikoen, your meals are more than just food—they’re a celebration of the region’s ingredients and culinary traditions. The dinner options include handmade kaiseki course meals or plant-based Shojin Ryori, both highlighting seasonal produce and local specialties such as yuba (tofu skin), mountain vegetables, and river fish.
Each dish is prepared with care and served at the perfect temperature, respecting a simple but essential principle: to honor both the ingredients and the person eating them. You’ll experience the full range of textures and flavors, from delicate broths to richly simmered vegetables.
For breakfast, you can enjoy a Japanese-style set meal or a bowl of warm congee. The rice is Tochigi-grown Koshihikari, known for its soft, glossy texture and natural sweetness. With every bite, you feel connected to the land and traditions of Nikko.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring baths at Hotel Seikoen use alkalescent, colorless, and odorless mineral water. These simple spring waters gently soothe your skin and help ease fatigue after a day of walking through temples and forest paths.
You can choose between large indoor baths, outdoor open-air tubs with garden views, or elegant cypress wood baths that surround you with a calming aroma. Men and women each have their own dedicated bathing areas, which also include saunas and cold-water baths for full-body refreshment.
Every season paints a new view around the bath. In spring, cherry blossoms drift over the garden walls. In summer, the green canopy deepens. Autumn brings bursts of red and gold, and in winter, snow dusts the branches outside your steamy retreat.
Guests with Tattoos
The baths are only available in the large public bathing areas. Please be aware that if you have tattoos, you may be asked not to use these facilities in accordance with standard ryokan policy.
