Overview

Experience the timeless beauty of Japanese hospitality at Koyo, a traditional inn surrounded by the natural richness of Yamagata. You’ll stay on a peaceful hilltop with wide views of the Zao mountains. The inn greets you with a warm, classic atmosphere, from the welcoming lobby to the seasonal touches throughout the property.

Soak in the healing waters of Kaminoyama’s historic hot springs, known for making your skin feel soft and refreshed. In your room, relax in a private open-air bath and watch the scenery change with the seasons. Koyo has been honored as one of Japan’s top traditional inns by professionals for over 40 years, a recognition built on a deep respect for omotenashi—the spirit of true hospitality.

Accommodation

Each room at Koyo offers comfort, space, and a sense of calm. Choose from newly renovated rooms with snow-inspired decor, elegant Japanese-style spaces, Western-style rooms, or luxurious VIP suites. Many rooms include open-air baths so you can enjoy hot spring waters in complete privacy.

All rooms are non-smoking and include Wi-Fi. You’ll find a full range of amenities including yukata robes, tea sets, hair dryers, safety boxes, and more. Families traveling with children can borrow child-friendly items such as small yukata, training toilet seats, and baby soap. For meals, child-sized chairs, tableware, and bassinets are also available in the dining areas.

Dining

Enjoy the rich flavors of Yamagata, crafted with care and detail. The chefs at Koyo work closely with local producers to source seasonal vegetables, fresh rice, and high-quality meats such as Yonezawa and Yamagata beef. Your meals are served in private dining rooms or the elegant restaurant, where each course reflects the landscape, history, and culture of the region.

If you have allergies, Koyo can adjust dishes to avoid the eight major allergens, provided you notify the inn when booking. Unfortunately, ingredient removals for personal preferences cannot be accommodated.
