Overview
Renessa Akazawa places you in the green landscape of Izu-Kogen, where forest and sea sit close together. You stay in a private cottage-style room spread across the resort grounds, with the center house nearby for dining, hot springs, the shop, and other shared facilities. The property has 62 cottages, so you can enjoy the feel of a small holiday home while still having resort services within reach.
This is a good choice when you want space, nature, and an easy Izu stay. You can soak in a free-flowing natural hot spring, enjoy seasonal Japanese meals or barbecue, spend time with your dog in a dedicated dog-friendly cottage, or use the resort as a base for nearby spots such as Mount Omuro, Jogasaki Coast, Izu Shaboten Zoo, and Izu Granpal Park.
Accommodation
Renessa Akazawa offers private cottage-style rooms designed for a relaxed stay in nature. Each cottage gives you more space than a standard hotel room, with layouts centered around a living area. You can choose Japanese-style, Western-style, Japanese-Western, maisonette, kitchen-equipped, hot-spring-bath, concept, and dog-friendly cottages depending on how you want to stay.
The Concept Room Ao to Midori is a Japanese-Western maisonette cottage of about 45 square meters. It uses the colors and feeling of Izu’s sea and forest, and the official room details note that this room does not have a TV. The Deluxe Type Cottage with Indoor Hot Spring Bath is a Japanese-Western maisonette of about 75 square meters, with a sofa bed and a private indoor hot spring bath. The Superior Type Cottage with Indoor Hot Spring Bath is about 45 square meters and gives you a Japanese-Western layout with your own indoor hot spring bath.
You can also choose standard cottage styles. The Standard Type Cottage with Kitchen comes in a large 75-square-meter Japanese-style maisonette and 45-square-meter Japanese-Western maisonette options, giving you more freedom for longer stays or simple self-catering. The Standard Type Cottage includes a 45-square-meter Japanese-Western layout and a 40-square-meter Western-style layout. These standard room types are comfortable cottage stays, but they are not listed as hot-spring-bath cottages on the official room page, so you should choose an “indoor hot spring bath” room type when you want hot spring water inside your own cottage.
If you travel with your dog, Renessa Akazawa has dedicated dog-friendly cottages. The pet-friendly Superior Type Cottage with Indoor Hot Spring Bath is about 45 square meters and lets you enjoy a private hot spring bath with your dog staying in the same cottage. The pet-friendly Standard Type Cottage is also about 45 square meters with a Japanese-Western layout. Pet stays are for small to medium indoor dogs, with up to three dogs per cottage.
Cottage items include bath towels, face towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. In the front lobby, you can use the amenity bar for adult yukata, obi belts, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, shower caps, razors, and tea. Some cottages include kitchen facilities, and kitchen-equipped cottages are suited to simple cooking during your stay.
Dining
Dining at Renessa Akazawa focuses on seasonal Izu flavors and relaxed resort meals. Dinner is usually served as a Japanese meal, with some periods offering a Japanese-Western-Chinese buffet instead. You can also choose barbecue, depending on the season and plan. The restaurant uses fresh seafood and mountain ingredients, giving you a meal that fits the Izu setting after a hot spring soak or day of sightseeing.
Breakfast is usually a Japanese-Western buffet, with a set meal served instead depending on the day’s reservation situation. The restaurant also highlights freshly baked bread at breakfast, which adds a warm and easy start to the day.
Dinner is usually served from 18:00, though times may change during busy periods. In-room dining is not usually available. Dinner reservations are accepted until 18:00 on the day before your stay, while breakfast can be arranged at check-in. If you bring food or drinks, you can enjoy them inside your cottage, but you cannot bring them into the restaurant.
Renessa Akazawa does not prepare individual allergy menus or allergen labels because meals are prepared in the same kitchen and with shared equipment. This means trace contact cannot be fully prevented.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring is one of the main reasons to stay at Renessa Akazawa. The center house has a free-flowing natural hot spring bathhouse surrounded by greenery, with an indoor bath, open-air bath, washing area, changing room, sauna, and cold bath. The hot spring water is replaced daily, and the property states that it does not use chlorine disinfection.
The spring quality is sodium-calcium chloride and sulfate spring water. The water is associated with relief for nerve pain, muscle pain, and fatigue recovery. You can enjoy the large public bath from 15:00 to 23:00 and again from 6:00 to 9:00. The sauna is open from 15:00 to 22:00.
Some cottage types also include a private indoor hot spring bath. These are the best choice when you want more privacy or want to soak without going to the shared bathhouse. You should choose a cottage type clearly listed as “indoor hot spring bath” when this is important for your stay.
Guests with Tattoos
Renessa Akazawa has a shared large public bathhouse, so you cannot use the public bath or sauna with tattoos. If you have tattoos, choose a cottage with a private indoor hot spring bath so you can enjoy the hot spring in your own space.
Facilities
Renessa Akazawa has a center house with a restaurant, free-flowing natural hot spring bathhouse, sauna, shop, and shared resort services. The property also has an all-weather BBQ House with 10 barbecue corners and space for about 80 people, plus Wi-Fi in the BBQ area. The dog run uses natural grass and is free for staying customers, with a night dog run currently open until 21:00 with lighting. You can also use one tennis court with lighting, available by advance reservation from 7:00 to 22:00, with rackets and balls loaned free of charge. Fees apply for tennis court use and BBQ grill rental.
The resort also has meeting and training spaces, including one large meeting room, two medium meeting rooms, and one small meeting room, with equipment such as a projector, whiteboard, and microphone available by advance reservation. The meeting areas can also support telework. The shop sells items such as Shizuoka tea, Izu sweets made with local New Summer orange, local sake, snacks, drinks, and small souvenir items. The outdoor living area, Mori to Hoshi to Terrace, gives you a deck space where you can relax among the trees during the day and enjoy lighting and a bonfire atmosphere at night, though bonfire operation may change depending on weather and schedule. There is no pool at Renessa Akazawa, but you can use the pool at sister property Renessa Jogasaki free of charge during its pool season.
