Overview

LOQUAT Nishiizu is an intimate heritage retreat in Toi, on the western side of the Izu Peninsula. Set within the former residence of the Suzuki family, a historic estate connected to Toi for more than 300 years, the property brings together restored kura architecture, private hot spring bathing, Italian dining, gelato, baked goods, spa treatments, and local culture in one highly personal experience.

With only two kura rooms and one private villa, LOQUAT limits stays to a maximum of three groups per day. This small scale gives the property its strongest appeal: more privacy, more space, and a stay that feels carefully shaped around each person rather than built for volume.

The setting adds another layer to the experience. West Izu is known for its coast, sunsets, quiet town atmosphere, and access to both sea and mountain scenery. LOQUAT uses this local character throughout the stay, from the food and spa treatments to the design and private concierge service.

Accommodation

Accommodation at LOQUAT Nishiizu feels exclusive by design. Instead of standard hotel rooms, the property offers three private, one-building-style accommodations: Ni no Kura, San no Kura, and Villa SUGURO. Each space has its own personality and includes a private open-air hot spring bath.

Ni no Kura is a single-level kura that keeps the atmosphere of the original storehouse. Its wide terrace looks toward a loquat tree and includes a free-flowing open-air hot spring bath and daybed. The layout creates a spacious, grounded feeling, with a skip-floor design that changes the perspective as you move through the room.

San no Kura is a two-level kura that highlights thick earthen walls, original beams, and a dramatic open living area. Upstairs, the bedroom uses Izu lava stone that has stood for more than 100 years, creating a unique and memorable sleeping space. The private terrace includes a large free-flowing open-air hot spring bath and acts like a second living area.

Villa SUGURO sits about 3 minutes by car from the main building. This private villa is over 180㎡ and includes two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, attic reading room, garden, open-air hot spring bath, hammam bath, and special in-villa chef and bar services. It suits travelers who want a deeper sense of privacy and more room to settle into the rhythm of West Izu.

Amenities include loquat leaf treatment oil, tea, soap, towels, bathrobes, audio equipment, hairdryer, portable TV, refrigerator, kettle, air purifier, umbrellas, toiletries, indoor wear, nightwear, toothbrush set, cotton swabs, razor, comb, glasses, and coffee cups. Some request items, such as facial kits, charging cables, wine coolers, and irons, are also available.

Dining

Dining is one of LOQUAT Nishiizu’s defining experiences. The on-site restaurant, Takeru Quindici / LOQUAT, brings the spirit of the well-known Kita-Kamakura Italian restaurant to West Izu. Meals focus on fresh local ingredients from the land and sea, paired with carefully selected Italian wines.

The kitchen does not rely on a fixed menu. Instead, ingredients are selected according to the day’s best local produce, seafood, wild plants, and seasonal finds. This gives each dinner a strong sense of place and makes the meal feel directly connected to the surrounding region.

Lunch is served from 11:30 to last order at 14:00, and dinner is served from 18:00 to last order at 20:30. For overnight stays, the official site lists an Italian course dinner by Takeru Quindici and breakfast as part of the stay services.

Gelato & Bake SANTi adds a lighter pleasure to the property. SANTi prepares seasonal gelato, baked bread, and pastries using carefully selected ingredients, with a focus on Japanese flour, natural yeast, and local produce where possible. The official booking page also notes that SANTi gelato is complimentary during stays at LOQUAT.

Onsen and Wellness

Every accommodation at LOQUAT Nishiizu includes a private open-air hot spring bath. The kura rooms have terraces of more than 40㎡ with free-flowing hot spring water from the source, allowing you to bathe outdoors whenever you want, without sharing the space.

The private bath experience is central to the appeal. You can enjoy the water in the morning, after dinner, under the night sky, or between quiet moments on the terrace. There is no need to plan around public bath hours or shared bathing spaces.

Wellness continues at Spa mimosa, where treatments use white loquat extract from Toi. The spa offers all-hand treatments with nature-based botanical essential oils blended with white loquat extract, designed for relaxation, refreshment, and deep body care. Treatments take place in a private space, with after-tea time included in the experience.

Villa SUGURO also includes a hammam bath, adding another private wellness feature for those who choose the villa.

Guests with Tattoos

LOQUAT Nishiizu is a strong option if you have tattoos because each accommodation includes a private open-air hot spring bath. You can enjoy the onsen in your own space without using a shared public bath.

You can spend the day walking through Toi, visiting the coastline, relaxing on your private terrace, enjoying gelato, booking a spa treatment, or simply staying in your accommodation with the open-air bath as the main event.

The property also promotes exploring West Izu by bicycle, making it a good choice for travelers who want to see the coast, town streets, and surrounding scenery at a slower pace.

Access is manageable from major transit points. The official site lists LOQUAT as about 60 minutes by car from JR Mishima Station and about 40 minutes by bus from Shuzenji Station.

Additional Features

Your stay at LOQUAT 西伊豆 feels deeply personal because of its limited scale. With only a few accommodations available, attention stays focused on quality rather than quantity. You experience a careful balance of heritage, design, and comfort that supports rest without excess.
