Overview

Meijikan is a beachfront hot spring ryokan in Toi Onsen, Nishi-Izu. You stay at 2849-3 Toi, Izu City, with Suruga Bay directly in front of you. From the lobby, you can walk straight onto the beach, making the sea feel like part of the ryokan itself.

The location is one of Meijikan’s biggest strengths. Toi Beach sits right in front of the building and is known as the largest swimming beach on the Nishi-Izu coast. The beach is shallow and usually calmer than beaches on the eastern side of Izu, making it popular for family trips. During the summer holiday season, trained lifeguards are stationed on the beach, giving you extra peace of mind.

Every room looks out over Suruga Bay. In the early morning, you may see the Southern Alps in the distance, and from late March to mid-September, the sunset can color the sea in front of your room. This is a strong choice when you want hot springs, seafood, beach access, family-friendly facilities, and a stay shaped by the ocean.

Accommodation

You choose from ocean-view rooms designed for couples, families, groups, and multi-generation trips. All room types look toward Suruga Bay, so the sea stays close throughout your stay.

For the highest level of privacy, choose one of the special Japanese-Western rooms with a private ocean-view hot spring bath. These rooms are located on the top 7th floor and on the 3rd floor. The 7th-floor rooms have wide views from the balcony, while the 3rd-floor rooms bring the sea closer and feature a windowed semi-open-air bath style that can be used even when the weather changes. The in-room baths use free-flowing hot spring water.

Minato is a concept room inspired by the sea and ships. Large windows frame the coastline, making the room feel especially connected to Toi Beach. This room works well when you want a playful oceanfront stay with family.

Shionone is a beach house-style room inspired by the American West Coast. It includes bunk beds, so it suits family stays and adds a fun seaside mood to the room.

The ocean-view special Japanese-Western room gives you a spacious layout with beds and a relaxed design made for enjoying the Toi coastline. The top-floor room with an adjoining space has a 12-tatami room plus a 6-tatami room, giving you more space for family or group stays. The top-floor 12-tatami Japanese room keeps a more traditional ryokan feel, while the large connecting Japanese room has 10-tatami and 12-tatami rooms joined together, making it useful for larger groups.

Standard ocean-view rooms also face the sea and offer a warm Japanese-style stay with wood details and tatami.

Dining

Dining at Meijikan focuses on seafood and seasonal flavors from Toi and Nishi-Izu. Dinner is a seasonal Japanese kaiseki meal built around fresh local seafood, regional ingredients, and dishes prepared to bring out the natural taste of each item.

You may enjoy dishes such as local sashimi, kinmedai, abalone, Ise lobster, beef dishes, seasonal fried items, and other seafood-centered courses depending on your plan. Some plans focus on premium seafood, while others balance seafood and meat for a fuller meal.

Dinner includes a self-service free drink station in the dining venue. You can enjoy beer, sake, whisky, wine, sours, non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks, and other drinks during dinner, depending on the day’s setup.

Breakfast is usually buffet-style, with Japanese and Western dishes such as simmered dishes, grilled fish, dried fish, baked bread, and other morning items. If the total number of overnight stays is small, breakfast may be served as a Japanese set meal instead.

Dessert is also part of the fun. The sweet buffet may include fruit, Toi’s local tokoroten, soft-serve ice cream, and other treats, making mealtime especially enjoyable for families.

Meijikan currently does not handle allergy requests, so you should plan carefully before booking meals if you have food allergies.

Onsen and Wellness

Meijikan’s hot spring baths let you soak while staying close to the sea. The large public bath is known for its 15.5-meter length and ocean view. You can relax in a spacious bath while looking toward Suruga Bay, listening to the waves, and feeling the coastal atmosphere.

The men’s large bath is Kinsuna no Yu, with an indoor bath and open-air bath facing the ocean. The women’s large bath is Ginsuna no Yu, also with an indoor bath and open-air bath. The women’s bath is designed so it cannot be seen from outside, allowing you to bathe with more comfort.

The large baths are available from check-in until 24:00, then again from 5:00 to 9:00 in the morning.

Two private open-air baths, Urara no Yu and Nukumi no Yu, also face the ocean. Each private bath includes an indoor bath as well, and the hot spring water is used free-flowing. These baths are available from 15:00 to 22:00, with final reception at 21:00.

Rooms with private ocean-view baths also use free-flowing hot spring water. These rooms are the best choice when you want to enjoy Toi Onsen in your own space, especially at sunset.

Toi Onsen blends several sources in the district and is listed as a sodium-calcium sulfate and chloride spring, with a source temperature of about 57°C. The water is known for warmth that lasts after bathing and is associated with benefits such as neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, cold sensitivity, fatigue recovery, recovery after illness, and general health support.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use private open-air baths without concern. Please do not use the private bath with tattoos.

Facilities

Meijikan has facilities that support both beach stays and family travel. Inside the ryokan, you can use the dining venue Kyoraku, Lounge Yuyake Cafe, Omatsuri Hiroba Wasshoi, kids’ corner, souvenir shop, large public baths, open-air baths, and private open-air baths.

Kyoraku is the main dining venue for dinner and breakfast. Dinner includes seafood-centered meals and the self-service free drink station. Breakfast is usually buffet-style.

Lounge Yuyake Cafe has large windows facing Suruga Bay. You can sit with a drink, look out toward the beach, and enjoy the light changing over the water. The lounge connects naturally with the ryokan’s beachfront setting.

Omatsuri Hiroba Wasshoi recreates a small festival atmosphere inside the ryokan. You can enjoy activities such as shuriken throwing, target games, natural stone accessory making, and other hands-on activities.

The kids’ corner includes toys and DVDs, giving children a place to play even when the weather changes. The souvenir shop sells local products from Nishi-Izu, Toi Onsen, and the Izu area.

Meijikan also offers child-friendly support items such as children’s toothbrush sets, body sponges, towels, yukata from size 90, children’s slippers, nap futons, and temperature-control pots.

Activities

You can spend your stay almost entirely around the beach and ryokan. Step from the lobby to the sand, swim in summer, walk along the coast in the morning, return for a hot spring bath, enjoy dinner, then watch the sunset from your room or lounge.

Inside the ryokan, you can spend time at Yuyake Cafe, try the dagashi corner, enjoy Omatsuri Hiroba Wasshoi, make natural stone accessories, create sweets-style craft items, or let children play in the kids’ corner.

Nearby, you can enjoy fishing at Fishing Park Toi, seasonal flying fish scooping from late May to early July, white loquat picking around late May to early June, and beach activities during summer.

For sightseeing, Toi Gold Mine offers gold panning and mine tunnel walks. You can also visit Terrasse Orange Toi, a coastal facility with local products, seafood dining, and a stand café. Joren Falls is another option for a longer outing in the Izu area.

Additional Features

The nearest bus stop is Yunokawa, about 1 minute away on foot. If you arrive by car, the route from the Numazu IC area through the Izu Jukan Expressway, Shuzenji Road, Amagi-Kita Road, Tsukigase IC, and Route 136 is convenient.

You can also reach the Toi area by ferry from Shimizu Port using the Suruga Bay Ferry, then continue to the ryokan from the Toi side.

Check-in is generally from 15:00, and checkout is generally at 10:00, though exact times may vary by plan. Parking is available on site.
