Overview

At Hotel Koshien, every moment invites you to create meaningful memories. Located in Yamanashi Prefecture, this ryokan surrounds you with the calming sounds of water and music. You’ll find spaces designed to soothe your senses and inspire quiet reflection. From private open-air baths to peaceful lounges, the ryokan blends traditional hospitality with thoughtful details throughout your stay.

Accommodation

Hotel Koshien offers 16 Japanese-style rooms, each designed for comfort and relaxation. You can choose from 10-tatami mat rooms or more luxurious suites with open-air baths.

Four rooms—Tenjin, Tenmoku, Yashajin, and Shosenkyo—include private open-air baths. One room, Fuefuki, is barrier-free and ideal if you need easier accessibility. Kinpu offers both an open-air bath and sauna, while Misaka and Akadake feature semi-open-air baths with unique themes. The spacious Motosu suite includes two Japanese-style rooms and a hinoki wood bath. Each room includes Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, a private toilet, and traditional touches like yukata and tea sets.

Dining

Your stay includes traditional Japanese meals served either in your room or a private dining space. The on-site restaurant, “Katei Fuji,” prepares meals with seasonal ingredients from the region. Breakfast offers local tastes to help you start your day feeling refreshed. If you check in after 5:30 p.m., dinner may not be available, so plan your arrival accordingly.

Onsen and Wellness

The ryokan offers large indoor and outdoor public baths for both men and women, along with several private facilities. You can relax in two private open-air baths named Dotryu and Ojiro, or book one of three private stone spas. Guests staying in special rooms have exclusive access to the Sekisui stone spa.

The baths use natural hot spring water with healing properties. The water contains simple alkaline minerals that help soothe skin conditions, ease fatigue, and warm your body from within.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the private baths and stone spas without concern, even if you have tattoos.

Facilities

Enjoy tea and soft music at the Garden Alps, one of the largest garden tea lounges in the area. Water flows gently from the massive Okuwa waterfall, creating a peaceful background for evening tea. On weekends and during events, the waterfall lights up from 9:00 to 9:30 p.m., often accompanied by live shakuhachi flute performances.

After your bath, unwind at the lounge area with free drinks. The ryokan also includes a beauty salon and a gallery showcasing traditional and seasonal art.

Your room includes essentials like shampoo, conditioner, soap, and towels. For families traveling with children, the staff can provide items like diapers and kid-friendly shampoo on request.

Activities

You can schedule a full-body or facial treatment at the Salon Fujizakura. Certified therapists offer hand-based aroma therapy using doTERRA essential oils. Each treatment blends oils suited to your physical and emotional state. Reservations must be made at least two days in advance, and only one person is treated at a time.

Try the Stone Spa area for a deeply relaxing experience. Choose from three types:

  • Yatsugatake eases mental fatigue with calming scents like black spruce and frankincense.
  • Sekisui supports deep breathing and better sleep with eucalyptus and laurel leaf oils.
  • Tougen promotes detox and recovery with grapefruit, ginger, and peppermint oils.
