Overview

Izu Kogen Onsen Hotel Mori no Izumi sits within a 6,000-tsubo natural setting in Izu Kogen, surrounded by trees, garden views, and the quiet atmosphere of a Western-style resort house. The property has a calm, adult-leaning feel, but it also welcomes family stays, making it a flexible choice for couples, friends, and relaxed group trips.

The stay is built around three simple pleasures: hot spring bathing, seasonal kaiseki cuisine, and all-inclusive lounge time. You can enjoy drinks and light snacks in the guest lounge, soak in a rare sulfate spring known for its smooth feel, watch the evening fountain show in the courtyard, and use the hotel as a base for Lake Ippeki, Mount Omuro, Jogasaki Coast, and other Izu sights.

Accommodation

Izu Kogen Onsen Hotel Mori no Izumi offers rooms in the main building and villa building, with Japanese-style, Western-style, Japanese-Western, connecting, and open-air bath room options. The rooms are spacious and simple, with layouts ranging from twin rooms for two people to connecting rooms for larger stays.

The villa rooms with open-air baths are the strongest choice when you want private bathing. The Japanese-modern twin with source-flowing open-air bath is one of the most popular rooms, with a 38㎡ Japanese-Western layout and a shower booth. The villa superior twin with hot spring open-air bath offers a 48㎡ Western-style space made for two people, while the villa Japanese-style room with open-air bath gives you a 42㎡ layout with a more traditional feel.

The villa also has Japanese-Western rooms and Japanese-style rooms without private open-air baths, giving you more space for families or small groups. In the main building, the premium classic twin and classic superior twin rooms have Western-style layouts with views toward the surrounding nature. The Japanese-modern twin room brings a softer Japanese mood, while the connecting room combines a Western-style room, a 12-tatami Japanese room, and a veranda area for group stays.

Rooms include the main essentials for a comfortable stay, such as Wi-Fi, air conditioning, refrigerator, safe, kettle, TV, washlet toilet, towels, yukata items, skincare basics, and room amenities. Extra items such as DVD players, trouser presses, irons, extension cords, and chargers can be borrowed when available.

Dining

Dining at Mori no Izumi focuses on seasonal kaiseki made with the flavors of Izu. Dinner is served in the main building restaurant and brings together carefully prepared Japanese dishes, local seafood, seasonal ingredients, and colorful presentation.

The standard Izu seasonal kaiseki changes with the time of year. Dishes may include sashimi, meat dishes, appetizers, wasabi rice bowl, simmered kinmedai, and other Japanese courses prepared with attention to both flavor and appearance. The meal feels polished without being overly formal, making it easy to enjoy after a day of sightseeing or bathing.

Drinks are part of the all-inclusive experience. At dinner, you can enjoy selected beverages, including Shizuoka Beer, local sake from Bandai Brewery, and drinks from Shizuoka and nearby Yamanashi. The lounge also serves drinks before and after dinner, so the stay does not revolve only around mealtime.

Breakfast is a Japanese-style meal with colorful dishes. One of the highlights is sea bream sashimi dressed with sesame sauce, which you can enjoy as it is or pour dashi over to make a light chazuke. Children’s dinner plates are available for younger stays.

Onsen and Wellness

Mori no Izumi uses a rare Izu Kogen sulfate hot spring. The water is a calcium-sodium sulfate spring with a weak alkaline quality and a pH listed as 7.84 on the hot spring information page. It is clear, colorless, tasteless, and odorless, with a gentle feel on the skin.

The shared bath area includes Mori no Yu, a large indoor bath on the first floor of the bathing building, and Izumi no Yu, a second-floor bath with a wooden tub and open-air bathing area. Mori no Yu includes a sauna, while Izumi no Yu lets you enjoy the hot spring together with the feeling of the surrounding forest. The large baths operate on a time-switching system, with morning and afternoon-to-night bathing hours.

The spring is known as a “beauty water” style bath and is also described as a spring for cuts and recovery. It is associated with support for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, arteriosclerosis, cuts, burns, and chronic skin concerns.

After bathing, you can relax in the post-bath lounge beside the bath area. The space looks toward the forest, and complimentary ice pops are available from the refrigerator.

Guests with Tattoos

Izu Kogen Onsen Hotel Mori no Izumi has shared public indoor and open-air hot spring baths. Tattoos should be fully covered before using the shared bathing areas. If your tattoo cannot be fully covered, choose a villa room with a private open-air bath.

Facilities

Izu Kogen Onsen Hotel Mori no Izumi has a courtyard garden, entrance hall, guest lounge, restaurant, large public bath, open-air bath, sauna, post-bath lounge, karaoke room, table tennis, vending machines, microwave, massage service, free Wi-Fi, parking, and shuttle service from Kawana Station by advance reservation.

The guest lounge is one of the main all-inclusive spaces. It opens in the morning and again from the afternoon until late evening, with soft drinks, beer, liqueurs, original cocktail-making, and light snacks. Alcohol is served during the afternoon and evening hours. The lounge gives you an easy place to spend time before dinner, after sightseeing, or between baths.

The courtyard sits at the center of the property and includes a pond that attracts birds. A fountain show takes place twice in the evening, with music, light, and water creating a gentle night-time feature after dinner. You can also ask the front desk for koi food and enjoy feeding the fish in the courtyard.

Activities

Mori no Izumi places you close to several of Izu’s best-known nature spots. Lake Ippeki is nearby and works well for a quiet walk around the water. Mount Omuro gives you open views from its rounded volcanic shape, while Komuroyama offers another scenic park setting with views across the Izu landscape.

Jogasaki Coast is one of the area’s most dramatic outings, with cliffs, walking paths, and views toward the Izu Islands. Shiobuki Park gives you coastal scenery near Teishi Island, while the Matsukawa riverside area in Ito brings a more classic hot spring town atmosphere.

Inside the hotel, you can spend time at the lounge, play table tennis, reserve karaoke, watch the evening fountain show, or enjoy repeated baths and post-bath rest. The location also works well for slower Izu drives, seasonal flowers, coastal walks, and a relaxed stay between sightseeing spots.
