Overview

Ogiwarakan welcomes you to Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, a peaceful hot spring town surrounded by the natural beauty of Chikuma City in Nagano Prefecture. After a full renovation, the ryokan reopened in April 2025 with updated facilities, a new restaurant, and a refreshed lobby space. Here, you’ll find thoughtful hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere ideal for families, couples, and multi-generational trips.

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or taking a quiet getaway, you can enjoy mountain views, relaxing onsen baths, and the rich flavors of Shinshu’s local ingredients.

Accommodation

Choose from three types of guest rooms designed to help you relax and feel at home:

Special Room: Two Rooms

This room connects two Japanese-style spaces with a partition wall, making it ideal for families or groups of up to eight people. Each section includes air conditioning, a private bath, and a washlet toilet.

Special Room: Two Rooms in a Row

This spacious, non-smoking layout links two rooms with sliding doors, allowing flexible use for groups or multi-generational travel. It includes the same amenities as other special rooms.

Standard Room

Available in different sizes to suit solo travelers, couples, or small families. These Japanese-style rooms include a private bath and toilet, air conditioning, and essential amenities.

All rooms come with yukata, towels, toothbrush sets, and other daily necessities. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the facility.

Dining

Meals at Ogiwarakan focus on the flavors of Shinshu, using locally grown vegetables, river fish, and premium meats like Shinshu Apple Wagyu. The concept behind the cuisine is “beauty, health, and local production for local consumption.”

Dinner

Enjoy seasonal Kaiseki meals made with handmade care by the ryokan’s head chef. Main courses change with the seasons and may include ceramic plate–grilled beef in warmer months or hot pot shabu-shabu in winter. You can also enjoy dishes featuring Shinshu pork, salmon, or carp.

Breakfast

You can choose between Japanese and Western-style breakfasts. Western meals feature freshly baked bread created in collaboration with a local bakery, La Pain Elegant, and are paired with original sauces supervised by a professional chef.

Children’s Meals

The ryokan offers kid-friendly meal options and will help you arrange celebrations for children, including first birthdays and traditional ceremonies like Shichigosan.

Meals are now served in semi-private rooms on the first floor restaurant, following the 2025 renovation.

Onsen and Wellness

The hot springs at Ogiwarakan use 100% natural water from Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, known for its skin-softening qualities and healing properties. You can use the baths at any time from check-in until the next morning.

Men’s Open-Air Bath “Arato”

Located on the 5th floor and renovated with natural stone, this bath offers mountain views and a relaxing outdoor atmosphere.

Women’s Open-Air Bath “Chikuma”

Also on the 5th floor, this bath uses Teppei Stone and provides a similar scenic experience with privacy and comfort.

Large Public Baths

Spacious indoor baths for men and women are located on the first floor. The ryokan blends water from nine different sources, creating a rich, naturally changing bath experience.

Private Open-Air Bath

Available for 30-minute reservations from Monday to Thursday. Surrounded by nature, this bath offers quiet, scenic soaking. Reservations are required and space is limited.

Dressing Areas

Bath amenities include face wash, emulsion, shaving sets, cotton swabs, and baby-friendly supplies like bath chairs, toys, and diaper bins.

Guests with Tattoos

Private bath access is recommended for those with tattoos. Check with the staff for availability during your stay.
