Overview

Stay at Oyado Koto no Yume, only around two minutes on foot from the east exit of JR Takayama Station. The location gives you easy access to Takayama’s historic streets, morning markets, restaurants, sake breweries, and bus services to destinations across the Hida region.

The building takes inspiration from traditional Takayama homes. Wooden beams, dark pillars, tatami, seasonal decorations, and an irori hearth create a strong connection with the town’s architectural heritage.

The ryokan has 29 individually decorated rooms, natural Hida Takayama Onsen baths, a reservable private bath, and a Japanese dining room for breakfast. Complimentary coloured yukata and aroma oils add small cultural touches to your stay.

Accommodation

Choose from eight room categories, including suites, Japanese-Western family rooms, a top-floor twin room, and classic tatami accommodation. Room designs differ, so colours, furniture, decorative details, and layouts change between categories.

Shunkei-no-Ma combines an 11-tatami main room with a six-tatami bedroom containing a queen-size bed. Exposed beams and a decorative irori hearth give the room a traditional character, although the hearth cannot be lit.

Murasakishikibu-no-Ma is a spacious junior suite with both tatami and wooden flooring. Its design takes inspiration from the purple berries of the Japanese beautyberry plant found in the ryokan’s garden.

Tsutsuji-no-Ma is a Japanese-Western family room with two beds and space for two futons on the tatami. Ajisai-no-Ma has a similar family layout with two beds and two futons, but its private bathroom contains a shower rather than a bathtub.

The Japanese Modern Bed Room occupies the top floor and is the only room of its type. It has twin beds, Japanese design, and selected designer furniture.

Ten-tatami rooms follow themes connected to Takayama and the seasons. Designs include cherry blossoms, the spring festival, the autumn festival, and the harvest moon.

Seven eight-tatami rooms have their own decorative themes. Selected rooms include floral details or traditional prints, while some receive a kotatsu during winter.

The two-person Japanese Room uses traditional futon bedding and a shared bathing facility. Choose this category when you do not require a private bathroom inside your accommodation.

Standard room equipment includes heating and air conditioning, a television, refrigerator, humidifying air purifier, electric kettle, safe, hair dryer, yukata, towels, slippers, toiletries, and free Wi-Fi. Exact bathroom arrangements depend on the room category.

Dining

Breakfast is served in Kagura, the Japanese-style dining room. The kitchen focuses on seasonal produce and regional ingredients while keeping the presentation simple and carefully prepared.

The first morning normally features a Japanese breakfast. Dishes may include rice, soup, grilled or simmered food, vegetables, pickles, and other small seasonal items.

A Western breakfast with bread and fruit may be available from the second morning of a longer stay. Breakfast contents change according to the season and ingredient supply.

Breakfast service runs from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. All meals are served in Kagura rather than inside your room.

The ryokan does not currently provide regular dinner service. Takayama Station and the historic centre place Hida beef restaurants, ramen shops, izakayas, cafés, and local sake establishments within walking distance.

Onsen and Wellness

The communal bathing areas, No-no-Ka and Hana-no-Ka, use natural Hida Takayama Onsen water. Separate facilities are provided for men and women.

Each side has a granite indoor bath and an adjoining open-air rock bath. Warm lighting, stone surfaces, and wooden details create a comfortable place to soak after sightseeing.

The baths open from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Bathing products include body soap, shampoo, conditioner, combs, cotton items, razors, hair dryers, and skincare products. Take the bath towel from your room when visiting the onsen.

Hoshi-no-Yu is a private bath on the fifth floor. It is reserved for one travelling party for 40 minutes and accommodates up to three people. Larger groups can use two consecutive sessions when availability allows.

The private bath includes its own changing area, bottled water, and beauty packs. Advance reservations are recommended, and access carries an additional charge.

Hoshi-no-Yu uses regular heated water rather than natural hot spring water. The communal indoor and outdoor baths provide the natural onsen experience.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the communal indoor and open-air hot spring baths when you have tattoos. You do not need to cover them.

You can also reserve Hoshi-no-Yu when you prefer complete privacy, although this bath does not contain natural onsen water.

Facilities

The lobby combines exposed wooden beams, pillars, tatami, and a traditional irori hearth. Jazz music plays during the evening, giving you a comfortable space to sit after returning from the town.

A small gallery and library display books, artwork, and seasonal pieces. Decorations change through the year to reflect Takayama’s festivals and natural surroundings.

Yume-no-Ya opens from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and sells local products, crafts, sweets, and small souvenirs.

The third-floor laundry room opens from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Washing machines are free to use, while detergent is available separately.

The complete property is non-smoking apart from a designated smoking room on the fourth floor. The smoking room remains accessible throughout the day.

Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and shared spaces. A vending machine and other practical facilities are also provided inside the building.

Activities

Choose a coloured yukata from the lobby and wear it while relaxing inside the ryokan or walking through Takayama. Designs are available for both men and women.

The complimentary aroma corner lets you select an oil for your room. Scents include bamboo, lotus, hydrangea, peach, pinks, and yuzu.

Walk through the Sanmachi historic district to see preserved wooden merchant buildings, craft shops, cafés, Hida beef restaurants, and sake breweries.

Visit the Miyagawa Morning Market for seasonal food, pickles, snacks, flowers, and handmade products. Takayama Jinya and its nearby morning market provide another easy stop in the centre of town.

The nearby Nohi Bus Center provides access to Shirakawa-go, Hida Furukawa, the Okuhida hot spring villages, and other places across the region.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. The main entrance closes at 11:00 p.m.

JR Takayama Station is around two minutes away on foot. This short distance is especially useful when you arrive with luggage or plan an early departure.

On-site parking is limited. Luggage storage is available around your arrival and departure times, allowing you to explore Takayama without carrying your bags.

Pets cannot stay at the ryokan. The indoor property is non-smoking apart from the designated fourth-floor smoking room.
