Overview
Stay at Sansui Resorts Yamanakako, a small boutique hotel in a green residential area near Lake Yamanaka. The lakeshore is around 900 metres away, while Asahigaoka Bus Terminal can be reached in approximately three minutes by car.
The hotel combines tatami-floored rooms with Western beds, private hot spring bathing, a sauna, fitness facilities, free bicycle rental, family facilities, and access to outdoor experiences around the Fuji Five Lakes.
Room outlooks focus on Lake Yamanaka, the hotel grounds, or nearby mountains rather than a guaranteed view of Mt. Fuji. You can enjoy clearer views of the mountain from several places around Lake Yamanaka when the weather allows.
After cycling, hiking, golfing, or sightseeing, you can reserve one of the private onsen areas, cool down in the cold-water pool, or finish the day with a Japanese dinner at Fujigyusho.
Accommodation
Choose from three main room categories: Deluxe Rooms, Executive Rooms, and The Suite. Each room has tatami flooring, Western bedding, an en-suite shower and toilet, heating and air conditioning, and free high-speed Wi-Fi.
The Deluxe Room measures 28 square metres and has one 140-centimetre-wide double bed. The room accommodates up to three people and includes a working desk, smart television, minibar, drink set, alarm clock, and digital door lock.
Deluxe Rooms look toward Lake Yamanaka or the hotel grounds, depending on their position. They do not provide a guaranteed view of Mt. Fuji.
The Executive Room measures 34 square metres and accommodates up to four people. Two wide single beds can be placed together to create a bed measuring approximately two metres across. A work desk, 43-inch smart television, minibar, drink set, and private shower room are provided.
Executive Room views differ between the lake, park, and nearby mountains. This category also does not provide a direct or guaranteed view of Mt. Fuji.
The Suite measures 44 square metres and accommodates up to six people. Bedding configurations include double or queen-size beds, while the larger floor area gives you more room when travelling with family or friends.
All room categories include a private shower rather than a bathtub. For soaking, you can reserve one of the two private natural hot spring facilities elsewhere in the hotel.
Pets cannot stay in any room. Baby cots can be arranged for younger children, subject to availability.
Dining
Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. as a semi-buffet. You select either a Japanese or Western main breakfast, then add drinks, salad, fruit, and seasonal items from the buffet counter.
The Western option provides familiar morning dishes, while the Japanese breakfast uses selected regional ingredients. You reserve your preferred breakfast style and dining time before the meal.
Fujigyusho serves dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Its speciality is gyukatsu, a lightly fried premium beef cutlet served rare inside. You finish each slice on a heated stone at your table, allowing you to choose the level of cooking.
Dinner is prepared to order, and advance online table booking is required. The restaurant accepts both overnight diners and people visiting from outside the hotel.
The dining room includes an outdoor terrace. Your dog may join you on the terrace even though the hotel does not accept pets inside its accommodation rooms.
Casual clothing and shoes are required inside the restaurant. Bathrobes, slippers, and swimwear cannot be worn during meals.
Onsen and Wellness
The wellness area contains two private onsen pools filled with natural hot spring water from the Yamanakako area. Each facility is reserved for one travelling party, allowing you to bathe without sharing the space.
Onsen access is included with your overnight stay. Sessions are arranged in one-hour periods, so you need to select an available time during your visit.
The complete wellness area also includes a traditional Finnish-style sauna, cold-water pools, and an outdoor pond. The sauna and cooling facilities form part of the private bathing experience rather than a public communal bath.
You can move between the hot spring, sauna, and cold water at your own pace during the reserved session. The private arrangement works well after cycling, golf, hiking, skiing, or a day exploring the Fuji Five Lakes.
A fitness centre provides basic equipment for personal exercise, yoga, sports courses, and organised wellness programs. Use of the gym is included with your stay.
An in-room oil massage can also be arranged. Advance booking is required because the treatment depends on therapist availability.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use both private onsen facilities when you have tattoos. You do not need to cover them because the bathing area is reserved exclusively for your travelling party.
The sauna and cold-water pools are also part of the private wellness area, allowing you to use the complete facility without entering a shared public bath.
Facilities
The fitness centre includes equipment for cardio exercise, strength work, stretching, and yoga. Its smaller layout suits a personal workout rather than a large commercial gym session.
The indoor playground is designed for children from three to 12 years old. It includes a ball pool, slides, books, cartoons, and other play equipment, giving you an indoor option during rain or colder weather.
The cinema and karaoke room can be reserved for films, singing, and private evening events. The same space can also support a small bar-style gathering.
A multifunction conference room accommodates up to 40 people. It can be used for meetings, seminars, tuition, courses, and private group programs.
An outdoor gazebo beside the hotel provides space for sitting outside or arranging a BBQ. Dogs are welcome in this outdoor area even though they cannot stay in the hotel rooms.
The hotel grounds include a garden and outdoor tennis courts. Free standard bicycles are available during your stay, while electric bicycles can be hired separately.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Free private parking is provided for approximately 15 vehicles on a first-come basis.
Activities
Borrow one of the complimentary bicycles and ride toward Lake Yamanaka. The lakeside cycling route gives you access to parks, cafés, photo points, and open views of Mt. Fuji when the weather is clear.
Electric bicycles are also available when you prefer assistance on longer rides or steeper roads. Guided cycling programs may be arranged as part of seasonal activity packages.
A private Fuji Five Lakes tour allows you to explore the area with an English-speaking driver. The full-day program normally lasts around eight hours and can include five or six attractions selected around your interests.
Possible stops include Oshino Hakkai, Chureito Pagoda, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, Lake Kawaguchi, flower parks, and Mt. Fuji viewpoints. Routes depend on the weather, road conditions, and your preferred pace.
A Japanese tea ceremony experience introduces you to the preparation, presentation, and customs of sadō. The experience needs to be arranged at least two days before your preferred date.
Golf packages include course reservations, transport, equipment rental, and other support. Fuji Golf Course is around five minutes away by car, while several other courses lie within driving distance around Yamanashi and Shizuoka.
During the official climbing season, the hotel can support a Mt. Fuji climbing stay with transport and help arranging essential preparations. Winter packages may include access to Fujiten Snow Resort or Snow Park Yeti.
Lake Yamanaka’s autumn foliage area near Asahigaoka can be reached on foot. Other seasonal experiences include the Yamanakako Road Race, lakeside festivals, boating, fishing, hiking, and winter snow activities.
