Overview

Hakone Shichifukusou offers a peaceful hot spring escape above Lake Ashi, with wide views toward the lake and Mount Fuji when the weather is clear. Located in the Motohakone area near Togendai, the inn gives you easy access to the Hakone Ropeway, sightseeing cruises, mountain scenery, and the northern side of the lake.

The name Shichifukusou comes from the Seven Lucky Gods and expresses a wish for happiness and good fortune for everyone who visits. This welcoming spirit shapes the experience, from the relaxed lounge and scenic terrace to the natural hot spring baths.

The atmosphere feels personal and uncomplicated. You can begin the day with a Japanese breakfast, explore Hakone by ropeway or boat, then return for a private open-air soak overlooking the surrounding landscape.

Accommodation

Hakone Shichifukusou offers Japanese rooms, Western-style accommodation, and a separate condominium for families, groups, and longer stays.

The main-building Japanese rooms feature tatami flooring and views toward Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji. These rooms include a refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and useful amenities, while bathing takes place in the main hot spring facilities.

For a more private experience, choose Benzaiten. This Western-style room is the only accommodation with its own hot spring bath. It also offers views toward the lake and Mount Fuji and accommodates up to two adults and two children.

The separate condominium works well when you want more independence and space. It accommodates up to four adults and two children and includes a living room, Japanese-style sleeping areas, a system kitchen, and a private shower room with a bathtub. You can also use the natural hot spring baths in the main building.

Dining

Hakone Shichifukusou serves a seasonal Japanese breakfast in the main-building dining room. Breakfast costs ¥2,000 and must be reserved at least three days before arrival.

Dinner is not served at the property, giving you the freedom to explore restaurants around Togendai, Kojiri, Sengokuhara, and the wider Hakone area. It is best to plan your evening meal before returning, as shops and restaurants become limited later in the day.

When you prefer to prepare your own food, the condominium includes a kitchen. BBQ equipment can also be rented when requested at least five days in advance. Ingredients are not included, so bring food and drinks with you.

Onsen and wellness

Two hot spring bathing areas each include an indoor bath and an open-air bath. The source-fed outdoor water warms you deeply while views of Lake Ashi, Mount Fuji, and the surrounding mountains add to the experience.

The baths normally operate as separate men’s and women’s areas from 16:00 to 22:00 and again from 7:00 to 9:30 the following morning.

For more privacy, you can reserve one of the bathing areas between 16:00 and 21:00. Each private session lasts 50 minutes and costs ¥3,000. This gives couples, families, and small groups the chance to enjoy the indoor and open-air baths together.

Guests with tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can enjoy the hot spring during a privately reserved bathing session. Each session lasts 50 minutes and includes private use of an indoor bath and open-air bath.

You can also choose Benzaiten, the only room with its own hot spring bath.

Facilities

The open lounge and scenic terrace give you uninterrupted views across Lake Ashi and toward Mount Fuji on clear days. These spaces are ideal for enjoying a morning coffee, planning your sightseeing, or watching the light change across the mountains.

The property also includes a dining room, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary parking for up to 15 cars. Reception operates from 9:00 to 18:00.

Pickup from Togendai bus stop can be arranged when requested in advance, making arrival easier when you travel by public transport.

Activities

Togendai Station and Port connect you to some of Hakone’s best-known experiences. From here, the Hakone Ropeway travels toward Owakudani, where volcanic vents, mountain scenery, and views of Mount Fuji create one of the area’s most memorable landscapes.

The Lake Ashi sightseeing cruise also departs from Togendai. You can travel across the lake toward Hakone-machi and Motohakone, then explore Hakone Shrine, lakeside paths, and sections of the historic Tokaido route.

Sengokuhara offers museums, cafés, seasonal pampas grass, and mountain walks, while the wider Hakone area gives you access to Gora, art museums, gardens, and scenic viewpoints.

After a day of sightseeing, return to Shichifukusou for an open-air bath and a quiet evening overlooking the lake.

Additional features

The property offers Japanese rooms with Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji views, the Western-style Benzaiten room with a private hot spring, a condominium for up to four adults and two children, two indoor and open-air bathing areas, reservable private bathing sessions, Japanese breakfast, BBQ equipment rental, free Wi-Fi, a scenic lounge and terrace, complimentary pickup from Togendai with advance notice, and free parking for 15 cars.
