Overview

Shigisan Ryokan stands in the Mt. Shigi-san area of Nara, a region known for its deep ties to traditional religious culture. Here, you can explore historic temples like Chogosonshi-ji, just a five-minute walk away. The area hosts spiritual ceremonies throughout the year, offering you a rare glimpse into Japan’s cultural roots.

As you step into this tranquil retreat, you’ll find warm hospitality and carefully prepared meals that highlight Nara’s seasonal ingredients. Come experience the changing seasons in the peaceful hills of Shigisan.

Accommodation

Shigisan Ryokan offers 39 rooms that can accommodate up to 200 people. You can choose from Japanese-style or Western-style rooms. All rooms come equipped with essentials for a comfortable stay, including a towel for bathing, yukata, body wash, shampoo, rinse, and a hair dryer.

Main Building Japanese-Style Rooms: These 32 rooms invite you to relax in a traditional setting with tatami floors and sliding doors. On the third floor of the West Wing, the rooms have been renewed with natural materials and calming views of Nara’s landscape.

Annex Western-Style Rooms: These 10 rooms offer beds and a more modern layout while still maintaining the quiet atmosphere of the ryokan.

Each room includes a television, safe, electronic bidet, and a full set of toiletries so you can relax without worry.

Dining

Dinner is served in your room, giving you a private space to enjoy the taste of Nara. The meals change with the seasons and feature local meat and vegetables whenever possible.

You may find dishes that showcase the region’s three famous meats—Yamato beef, Yamato pork, and Yamato chicken. Each course embraces the traditional flavors of Nara and is crafted with attention to freshness and balance.

Because seasonal ingredients are used, the menu will vary depending on the time of year and what’s available in the market. Every dish reflects the region’s culinary heritage and the chef’s commitment to local flavor.

Onsen and Wellness

Step into the soothing waters of the hot spring baths and let the stress melt away. The ryokan’s baths offer views of the surrounding Shigisan landscape, which changes color with the seasons—from cherry blossoms to autumn leaves.

You can choose between indoor and open-air baths. Both men’s and women’s facilities are available, each with a large bath and a rotenburo (outdoor bath). The simple spring water meets Japanese hot spring standards and contains metasilicate, known for its gentle effects on the skin.

Soaking in the mineral-rich waters may help ease shoulder stiffness, neuralgia, and everyday fatigue. Let the warmth of the spring renew your energy.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can still enjoy the hot springs. Please ask the staff about private bath options when you check in.
