Overview

At Southern Cross Resort, you can combine an Ito hot spring stay with a full day on the golf course. The resort looks across the fairways and the wider Izu landscape, with views that can include Mount Fuji, the Amagi mountain range, Sagami Bay, the Pacific Ocean, and the islands of Izu when the weather is clear.

Everything you need for a relaxed stay sits within the resort. You can play an 18-hole round, soak in Ito Onsen water, enjoy seafood and produce from the Izu Peninsula, browse a large library, or settle into the lounge with views across the greenery. Selected rooms also include a private hinoki bath supplied with hot spring water, giving you the freedom to enjoy the onsen at your own pace.

Accommodation

You can choose from Deluxe, Combination, Superior, Connecting, Standard, and Economy rooms. Every room is non-smoking and comes with a Simmons bed, air conditioning, a television, an empty refrigerator, and wired and wireless internet access. Towels, yukata, a hairdryer, toiletries, and other daily essentials are also provided. A designated smoking area is available on the first floor.

The 60-square-metre Deluxe Rooms come in twin and double layouts. Large windows look across the golf course, while the private hinoki bath receives water from the resort’s own hot spring source. From the bathroom, you can look towards Mount Komuro and enjoy the landscape as it changes from morning to evening.

The 60-square-metre Combination Room joins a Western bedroom with a six-tatami Japanese area. You can remove your shoes and stretch out on the tatami, making this room especially comfortable when you are staying with family or friends. The room includes a private hinoki hot spring bath and broad golf course views.

The 52-square-metre Superior Room gives you a private hot spring bath and a generous open layout. Some rooms have wide windows facing the course, while a sofa bed can provide additional sleeping space when you are travelling together.

The Connecting Room joins two neighbouring 26-square-metre twin rooms. You can move between both spaces through an internal door while still having separate areas for rest and privacy. The layout includes two single beds and two sofa beds, along with a unit bathroom in each room.

Standard Rooms come in twin and double layouts measuring 26 square metres, while the triple rooms measure 30 square metres. You can enjoy views of the course or the surrounding Izu scenery, along with a unit bathroom and a simple, practical layout.

Economy Rooms also come in twin, double, and triple layouts. Twin and double rooms measure 26 square metres, while triple rooms measure 30 square metres. You still receive Simmons beds, internet access, a unit bathroom, and views towards the course or surrounding landscape.

Dining

At Restaurant South Pole, you can enjoy a Japanese-Western dinner course built around seasonal ingredients from Izu and Ito. Seafood arrives from Ito Port and other nearby fishing ports, while meat, vegetables, citrus fruit, and other local produce add colour and depth to each course.

Your dinner changes with the season. Depending on your travel dates, dishes may include sashimi, kinmedai with clams and shrimp, grilled beef fillet with wasabi miso, tempura, seasonal salads, and rice cooked with sakura shrimp. Desserts may bring together Shizuoka muskmelon, fruit, cakes, or traditional Japanese sweets.

Dinner is served from 18:00 to 20:30, with final orders at 19:30. Because ingredients and menus change through the year, each visit gives you a different taste of the Izu Peninsula.

Lunch is also served at Restaurant South Pole from 10:00 to 14:30, with final orders at 14:00. The menu changes regularly and may include Ito and Izu favourites such as simmered kinmedai with sashimi, soba with vegetable tempura, sakura shrimp ramen, curry, hamburg steak, sandwiches, or eel with noodles.

Breakfast is served in North Pole as a Japanese and Western buffet. You can choose from around 40 dishes, including Izu dried fish, egg dishes, rice, soup, vegetables, bread, and familiar breakfast favourites. Breakfast normally runs from 07:00 to 09:00, with an earlier 06:30 start during the summer season.

Onsen and Wellness

The large public baths use Ito Onsen water and feature hinoki bathtubs beside broad windows filled with natural light. The clear, colourless water has a light and smooth feel, making it easy to enjoy after a day on the golf course or exploring the Izu Peninsula.

The spring is classified as a calcium and sodium sulphate hot spring. Its bathing indications include neuralgia, rheumatic conditions, and digestive complaints. The gentle water and warm hinoki bath create a soothing place to loosen tired muscles and slow down at the end of the day.

You can use the public baths from 05:00 to 07:30 and again from 12:00 to 23:30 when staying overnight. The women’s bath also includes ReFa showerheads for hair and skin care.

Southern Cross Resort does not have an open-air public bath. Instead, both the men’s and women’s bathing areas centre on spacious indoor hinoki tubs with large windows.

For a more private experience, you can choose a Superior Room, Combination Room, Deluxe Twin, or Deluxe Double with its own hot spring bath. These room baths use hinoki tubs and allow you to soak without following the public bath schedule.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have a tattoo, you cannot use the shared public baths. You can still enjoy the hot spring by choosing a Superior, Combination, Deluxe Twin, or Deluxe Double room with a private onsen bath.

Facilities

Restaurant South Pole serves lunch and dinner in an open dining room, while North Pole hosts the breakfast buffet and can also be used for weddings, parties, and larger gatherings.

Golf Lounge Kanaloa has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the greenery. You can stop here for coffee or a light meal before or after your round. The lounge opens from 07:00 to 10:00 and again from 14:00 to 17:00.

Stardust Club gives you a place to enjoy drinks and karaoke in the evening. All-you-can-drink and all-you-can-sing options are available. The club opens on Fridays, Saturdays, and the evenings before public holidays from 19:30 to 23:30, with final orders at 23:00.

The library holds more than 20,000 books, giving you plenty to browse when you would like a quiet break away from the course. You can also use a mahjong room with four tables.

For meetings, training sessions, seminars, and private events, you can use the 136-square-metre banquet room or one of the smaller meeting rooms. Equipment can include wireless microphones, a whiteboard, a projector, a video monitor, and a laser pointer. Separate rooms are also available for private meals, memorial gatherings, meetings, and celebrations.

Activities

The main experience is the 18-hole Southern Cross golf course, which measures 6,439 yards from the blue tees. The layout follows the natural shape of the Izu landscape, combining gently changing ground levels with undulating fairways, sloping greens, bunkers, trees, and water hazards.

You can enjoy a serious round without facing a course filled with steep climbs. This makes the layout accessible when you prefer relaxed resort golf, while its changing fairways and greens still provide a challenge for more experienced players.

Every golf cart includes an updated navigation system that shows the shape of the green, remaining distance, course information, and live scores from the rest of your group. During the main golf season, you can also warm up at the 200-yard driving range, which has 15 practice bays and normally opens from 07:00 to 17:00.

The scenery changes as you move through the course. On clear days, you may see Mount Fuji from selected holes, while other areas open towards the Amagi mountains, Sagami Bay, the Pacific Ocean, and the islands off the Izu coast.

Beyond the resort, you can visit Mount Komuro, explore Ito’s coastal area, or head towards the city for seafood, sightseeing, and traditional hot spring culture.
