Overview

Stay at Super Hotel Hida Takayama, around two minutes on foot from JR Takayama Station. The location gives you straightforward access to the station, bus terminal, restaurants, Takayama’s historic streets, morning markets, and other central attractions.

The hotel focuses on practical accommodation, restful sleep, and services included with your stay. You can begin the morning with a breakfast buffet, return in the evening for complimentary drinks in the lounge, and finish the day in the natural hot spring.

Rooms are compact, making the hotel better suited to sightseeing and shorter stays than spending a full day indoors. Careful lighting, original mattresses, purified air, mineral-rich water, and a choice of pillows support a comfortable night after walking around Takayama.

Accommodation

Choose from five main room styles: Standard Double, Extra Double, Super Room, Triple Room, and Twin Room. Rooms include a private unit bathroom and toilet, so you always have a bathing option when the natural hot spring is closed or unavailable to you.

The Standard Double measures 12 square metres and accommodates one or two people. It has one 140-centimetre-wide double bed and a compact layout suited to a solo stay or a couple travelling with limited luggage.

The Extra Double also measures 12 square metres and has one 140-centimetre-wide bed. Its furniture arrangement differs from the Standard Double, giving you another option when you prefer a different working or sitting setup.

The 12-square-metre Super Room combines one 140-centimetre-wide double bed with a loft bed. It accommodates up to three people and works well when you need an additional sleeping space without booking two rooms. The upper bed requires the use of a ladder.

The Triple Room is the largest standard category at 15 square metres. It uses single beds and a sofa bed to accommodate up to three people.

The Twin Room measures 12 square metres and contains two 100-centimetre-wide single beds. It accommodates one or two people and suits you when you prefer separate beds.

Some room categories are available in smoking and non-smoking configurations. Check the exact room name carefully when booking, especially when cigarette smoke is a concern.

Every room includes free Wi-Fi, wired internet access, a television, quiet refrigerator, electric kettle, hair dryer, humidifying air purifier, alarm clock, USB charging point, mobile-device charger, deodorising spray, towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

The hotel’s original mattress aims to reduce pressure on the body, while slightly darker room lighting helps prepare you for sleep. You can select a pillow from up to eight designs in the lobby, subject to availability.

Pajamas are collected from the lobby rather than automatically placed in every room. You can also choose up to five personal-care items for each night of your stay.

Dining

A complimentary breakfast buffet is served each morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The dining area is close to the lobby, allowing you to eat before catching a train, beginning a walking tour, or travelling farther into the Hida region.

The buffet combines Japanese and Western breakfast dishes. The selection changes by day and may include rice, miso soup, grilled fish, egg dishes, sausages, bread, yogurt, cereal, vegetables, and small side dishes.

Freshly baked bread is one of the main breakfast features. Croissants, sliced loaves, and other baked items may appear alongside hot dishes and drinks.

The salad selection uses seasonal organic vegetables. Regional dishes connected to Gifu may also appear, allowing you to try local flavours without arranging a separate breakfast outside the hotel.

Breakfast is the only full meal service. The hotel does not operate a lunch or dinner restaurant, but many restaurants, cafés, izakayas, and Hida beef establishments are within walking distance around the station and historic centre.

You can also bring food back to your room or use the lounge when it is available for seating. The small refrigerator inside your room provides space for drinks and a limited amount of food.

Onsen and Wellness

Jinya-no-Yu is the hotel’s natural indoor hot spring bath. The water comes from Matsukura Yunoyama Onsen and is classified as a weakly alkaline, hypotonic, low-temperature simple spring.

The water has a gentle bathing feel. Traditional bathing indications include neuralgia, joint discomfort, muscle fatigue, and recovery after walking or travel.

The hotel has one shared bathing room rather than permanently separate men’s and women’s baths. Access alternates by gender according to a fixed daily schedule.

Men can use Jinya-no-Yu from 3:00 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. and again from 10:00 p.m. until 6:50 a.m. the following morning.

Women can use the bath from 7:00 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. and from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. the following morning.

The long overnight men’s session and shorter women’s periods are important when planning dinner, sightseeing, and your morning schedule. Bathing times can change, so check the posted information after arrival.

Jinya-no-Yu is an indoor bath. There is no open-air pool, sauna, reservable family bath, or private natural hot spring.

Shampoo and body wash are provided in the bathing area. You need to take the towels from your room with you.

Every accommodation room has its own unit bath filled with regular heated water. You can use this bathroom whenever you choose, regardless of the public bath timetable.

Guests with Tattoos

You cannot use Jinya-no-Yu when you have tattoos, body paint, or similar markings.

Facilities

The lobby lounge hosts the complimentary welcome bar each evening. Soft drinks are normally served from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., while alcoholic drinks are available from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The alcohol selection may include wine, spirits, and ingredients for making simple cocktails. You prepare your own drink, allowing you to control the mixture and strength. Service times and available drinks may change.

A 24-hour coin laundry provides washing machines and dryers for longer stays. Detergent is supplied, which is useful when you have packed lightly or need to wash clothing after several days of sightseeing.

Trouser presses are positioned beside the elevator on each floor. A stand light and other small items can be borrowed from the lobby, subject to availability.

VOD room entertainment is available in selected accommodation. Some theatre-style rooms replace the standard television with a projector, so check the room description when in-room films are important.

A smoking corner is provided. Smoking conditions inside accommodation differ by room category, so choose a clearly marked non-smoking room when required.

Parking is available by advance reservation. Spaces are limited, and nearby public parking provides the alternative when the hotel parking area is full.

Activities

Walk from the hotel to Takayama’s Sanmachi historic district, where preserved merchant houses now contain shops, cafés, sake breweries, restaurants, and craft stores.

Takayama Jinya introduces you to the town’s history under the Tokugawa shogunate. The former government complex includes tatami rooms, administrative spaces, storehouses, and displays connected to the management of the Hida region.

Visit the Miyagawa Morning Market or the market beside Takayama Jinya for vegetables, fruit, pickles, crafts, snacks, and seasonal local products. Morning opening hours make either market easy to combine with breakfast and an early walk.

Hida Kokubunji Temple is also close to the station area. Its temple grounds include a three-storey pagoda and an old ginkgo tree that changes colour during autumn.

For a longer outing, visit Hida Folk Village, an open-air museum with traditional thatched and wooden buildings relocated from communities across the region. Interiors, tools, workshops, and seasonal demonstrations introduce you to daily life in the mountains of Hida.

You can also use Takayama as a starting point for visits to Shirakawa-go, Hida Furukawa, the Okuhida hot spring villages, and the Shinhotaka Ropeway. Transport times and seasonal schedules differ, so these places work best as planned day trips.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m.

JR Takayama Station is approximately two minutes away on foot. The nearby bus terminal provides connections across Takayama and to other parts of the Hida region.

Parking requires an advance reservation and is available from check-in until check-out. Vehicle-height restrictions do not normally apply, but the number of spaces is limited.

You can pay at the hotel with cash, major credit cards, selected electronic payments, and supported QR payment services. Online payment options differ from those available at reception.

Preschool children can share existing bedding without an additional accommodation charge, but they still count toward the room’s maximum capacity. The Super Room and Triple Room provide the clearest choices when three people need to stay together.
