Overview
Isaba Ryokan has welcomed travelers for nearly 40 years, offering a peaceful retreat along the coast of Heda Port. This unique location lets you enjoy sweeping views of Suruga Bay, where the sea meets the sky in every direction. After a major renovation in 2020, the ryokan offers a fresh experience while preserving its soul—the unforgettable scenery remains unchanged.
From the moment you arrive, the staff greets you with warmth and care. Whether you’re traveling to celebrate a special occasion or simply want to get away from everyday life, Isaba helps you enjoy your time with purpose and ease.
Accommodation
Isaba offers several types of rooms, each designed to make the most of the sea views. You can wake up to the sound of waves, soak in your private bath while watching the sunset, and relax in a quiet space that feels far from the rush of daily life.
Some rooms feature a barrel-style open-air bath, others include a stone-built indoor bath, and many offer both. Choose from Western-style twin rooms, Japanese-style rooms with futons, or a blend of both.
Popular options include:
- Umi wa Hiroi na: A corner suite with both indoor and outdoor baths, plus in-room dining for two.
- Mikazuki-no-Ma: A room with a large stone bath and semi-double beds, perfect for a slow-paced getaway.
- Konpeki no Fuji: The only room where you can see Mount Fuji from your bath, ideal for special occasions.
- Akane no Uta: Newly renovated, with twin or hybrid styles and dual bathtubs.
- Shizuka no Umi: Featuring a stone bath and a sea-facing counter space, available with beds or futons.
- Matsubara Tooku: Located near the bath floors, this room offers views of the sea and Mount Fuji.
- Ai no Uta: On the top floor, you can enjoy the deep blue sea stretching out below.
Dining
Dining at Isaba centers around the sea. The ryokan serves fresh seafood caught in Heda’s traditional bottom-trawl fishing grounds. The menu changes with the seasons and daily catches, so every meal highlights the freshest possible ingredients.
You’ll enjoy full-course kaiseki meals served in your room or in a private dining space. Meals feature:
- Local deep-sea fish, known for their delicate flavor and rarity.
- Signature dishes like steamed spider crab, grilled prawns, and sashimi of rare species.
- Sea-to-table freshness that showcases the rich marine life of Suruga Bay.
Some ingredients are difficult to source outside of Heda, making your meals here truly one-of-a-kind. If you want to try something extra, you can order additional seafood dishes in advance.
Onsen and Wellness
Isaba lets you bathe while floating above the sea. Every bath in the ryokan opens to the ocean, giving you unmatched views while you soak. Choose from public baths or private open-air baths, all using the mineral-rich waters of Heda Onsen.
You’ll find:
- Fujimi-no-Yu: A gender-separated public bath with a relaxing outdoor section. Enjoy early morning or evening access depending on your stay.
- Tennyo-no-Yu: A larger indoor bath offering a different view and atmosphere.
- Four private open-air baths: Each offers its own charm and view. You can use these once for free during your stay.
These baths include:
- Yūhi no Kagayaki: An open, double-window bath with sunset views.
- Fuji no Yuki: The only bath with direct views of both Mount Fuji and the coastline.
- Nami no Shirabe and Shio no Kaori: Spacious stone baths where you can sit back and watch the sea stretch endlessly.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you’re still welcome to use the onsen at Isaba. While some public baths in Japan have restrictions, Isaba allows you to enjoy private open-air baths with full privacy. Simply reserve your bath after check-in.
Facilities
The ryokan’s public spaces help you relax outside your room. Designed to bring you closer to the sea, the open-plan lobby and lounge area gives you a wide view of Suruga Bay. You can sip drinks on the terrace, watch the sunset, or read quietly in the lounge.
Other features include:
- Gift shop: Stocked with local specialties and cold drinks.
- Karaoke room: Available for private rental in the evening.
- Smoking room: A designated indoor space, as all other areas are non-smoking.

The lobby also features a live tank with local spider crabs—if you order crab, it’s prepared fresh from here.
Activities
Even just watching the sea is soothing, but the area around Isaba offers more to explore. You can visit viewpoints across the Izu Peninsula or drive to nearby towns like Numazu. On clear days, you’ll spot Mount Fuji across the water, creating picture-perfect moments from sunrise to sunset.
Back at the ryokan, you can stroll the halls, relax in the lobby, or spend your evening in the terrace lounge with a drink. The atmosphere encourages you to pause and enjoy the natural beauty around you.
