Overview

At the southernmost tip of the Izu Peninsula lies Yado Marubun, a ryokan where the sea is not just scenery—it is the heart of your entire stay. The property faces Yumigahama, a long, sweeping arc of soft white sand and clear blue water chosen as one of Japan’s 100 Best Beaches. From the moment you arrive, your eyes are drawn to the graceful curve of the shore and the horizon beyond. Every room here offers an ocean view and a private open-air bath, letting you enjoy the sight and sound of the waves in perfect privacy.

The ryokan’s location offers beauty in every season. In summer, gentle waves roll onto the sand, inviting you to swim or stroll along the shore, while the beach fills with the joyful sounds of visitors enjoying the sun. Winter reveals a different kind of magic—quiet, crisp mornings where the sea reflects a pale sky, and the air carries the fresh scent of salt. Yumigahama is also a rare place where sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, adding a sense of natural wonder to its charm.

Throughout the ryokan, large windows and open spaces are designed to frame the view. Whether you are soaking in a bath, enjoying a meal, or simply relaxing in the lounge, the sight of the blue ocean is never far away.

Accommodation

All of Yado Marubun’s rooms feature private open-air baths filled with the mineral-rich waters of Yumigahama Onsen. This allows you to enjoy the soothing warmth of the springs at any time of day while listening to the sound of the waves.

You can choose from two styles of rooms:

  • Western-style Rooms – Five modern, stylish spaces with clean lines and a soft, neutral color palette. Each is about 12 tatami-mats in size and accommodates two to four people. These rooms are designed for those who prefer a bed but still want a deep sense of relaxation and intimacy.
  • Japanese-style Rooms – Twenty-five traditional tatami rooms where sliding shoji screens, natural textures, and low tables create a calm and authentic atmosphere. These rooms are also about 12 tatami-mats in size, accommodating two to four people, and are perfect for those who wish to fully immerse themselves in a classic ryokan setting.

In both styles, the private balcony and bath open to a wide view of the ocean. Here, mornings can begin with the glow of sunrise over the water, and evenings can end with the silver light of the moon reflected on the waves.

Dining

Dining at Marubun is an experience shaped by the sea and the seasons. The menu celebrates the natural bounty of southern Izu, with seafood brought in daily from local fishermen. Abalone, spiny lobster, alfonsino, and seasonal catches are prepared with care, often accompanied by vegetables grown in the surrounding hills.

Meals are served in an ocean-view dining room where the sound of the waves is a gentle companion to each bite. Every dish is presented to highlight its natural colors and textures, making the experience as visually beautiful as it is delicious. The ocean outside your window is not only the source of your meal—it is part of the atmosphere that makes it so memorable.

Onsen and Wellness

The pride of Yado Marubun is its open-air baths set beside the shore. In addition to the private baths in every room, the large public bath features outdoor soaking areas where you can feel the sea breeze on your skin as you relax. The water of Yumigahama Onsen is known for its gentle, skin-friendly qualities, leaving you refreshed and renewed.

One unique feature is the direct entrance from the beach to the bath area. After a swim or walk along the sand, you can step inside, rinse away the salt and sand, and ease into the warm water without delay. The baths are especially magical in the evening, when the setting sun paints the water and sky in shades of orange and gold.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can enjoy the onsen in complete privacy by using the open-air bath in your own room. This allows you to relax and soak without any restrictions.
