Overview

Stay on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchi at Yamagishi Ryokan, around eight minutes on foot from Kawaguchiko Station. The lakeside location places you close to the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, sightseeing boats, shops, restaurants, and the main attractions of the Fuji Five Lakes area.

The strongest views focus on Lake Kawaguchi. From the upper-floor public baths and selected rooms, you can look across the water and enjoy the changing light from morning to evening. The open-air bathing area also faces the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway on Mount Tenjo.

Your stay combines Japanese rooms with futon bedding, natural hot spring baths, and dinner plans based around beef shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, or Japanese-style steak dishes. A complimentary transfer from Kawaguchiko Station makes arrival straightforward when you travel by train or highway bus.

Accommodation

Yamagishi Ryokan has 59 rooms, including 56 Japanese rooms, two single rooms, and one accessible twin room. The main choices include lake-facing Japanese rooms, standard Japanese rooms, Japanese rooms with a more contemporary interior, a spacious 20-tatami special room, and a universal room.

Lake-facing rooms measure approximately nine to 13 tatami mats and look directly across Lake Kawaguchi. These rooms include futon bedding, a private shower room, and a washlet toilet. They suit you when the lake view forms an important part of your stay.

Standard Japanese rooms generally measure between eight and 12 tatami mats. Some include a private bathtub, while others have a shower room. Each room also has a washlet toilet.

The 11-tatami Japanese room gives you a comfortable traditional layout for sitting, drinking tea, and resting on futons. The 20-tatami special room provides much more floor space and uses Ryukyu-style tatami to create a clean, open appearance.

The universal room supports easier wheelchair movement and includes twin beds. A ramp at the main entrance and wheelchairs available to borrow provide additional support when step-free access is important.

Accommodation rooms are non-smoking and include heating and air conditioning, a television, telephone, refrigerator, electric kettle, tea set, washlet toilet, and hair dryer. You also receive towels, yukata, slippers, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, and soap.

Fans, heaters, air purifiers, wheelchairs, and charging cables with USB Type-C or Lightning connections can be borrowed, subject to availability. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.

Dining

Dinner choices include 90-minute all-you-can-eat beef shabu-shabu and beef sukiyaki. The shabu-shabu plan includes unlimited beef, vegetables, tofu, and rice, allowing you to cook each ingredient at the table and eat at your own pace.

Beef can be replaced with pork when arranged before arrival. Changes requested on the day may not always be possible.

Selected plans serve a Japanese meal centred on beef shabu-shabu rather than the unlimited dining format. Japanese-style steak dishes may also appear depending on your chosen plan and current menu.

Additional dishes introduce more flavours from Yamanashi and Japan. Choices may include Fuji-style Japanese steak, horse sashimi, hōtō noodles, simmered abalone, salt-grilled ayu, grilled lobster, pork cooked on a ceramic plate, or a boat-shaped sashimi platter. Availability changes with the season.

Breakfast is served as a Japanese set meal in the dining area. Rice, soup, and accompanying dishes provide a warm start before sightseeing around Lake Kawaguchi.

Children’s dinners can be prepared in a simpler plate style. When you stay for more than one night, you can discuss the meal for the following evening at check-in.

Onsen and Wellness

The upper-floor bathing area includes two large public baths and two open-air baths. The bathing areas alternate between men and women, allowing you to experience each side during your stay.

Kojō-no-Yu is an observation bath facing Lake Kawaguchi. During the day, wide windows bring the lake scenery into the bathing area, while evening gives you views of lights reflected across the water.

Unjō-no-Yu provides another spacious indoor hot spring bath where you can warm up after travelling or sightseeing.

The lake-view open-air bath combines natural hot spring water with the scent of wood and an open view toward Lake Kawaguchi and the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway. The Japanese garden open-air bath offers a more enclosed setting, with fresh green leaves in spring and colourful foliage in autumn.

You can use the baths from check-in at 3:00 p.m. until check-out at 10:00 a.m. They close for cleaning for one hour from midnight.

The water is a hypotonic alkaline sulfate and chloride spring containing calcium and sodium. Traditional bathing indications include fatigue, muscle and joint discomfort, sensitivity to cold, stiff shoulders, cuts, burns, and long-term skin or digestive concerns.

Shampoo, conditioner, skincare products, and hair dryers are available in the bathing areas. An after-bath corner gives you somewhere to cool down before returning to your room.

Yamagishi Ryokan does not have a reservable private bath or accommodation with a private onsen. All natural hot spring bathing takes place in the shared indoor and open-air baths.

Guests with Tattoos

Yamagishi Ryokan does not accommodate visible tattoos in the shared public bathing areas.

Facilities

The lobby lounge gives you a comfortable place to sit before check-in, wait for the station transfer, or plan your day around Lake Kawaguchi. Reception can also arrange massage and parcel-delivery services.

The souvenir shop carries products associated with Yamanashi, including Koshu wine, crystal items, Koshu Inden leatherwork, wine pies, Kai silk accessories, and hōtō noodles. It opens in the morning and again from the afternoon into the evening.

Several banquet rooms support group meals, meetings, lectures, and celebrations. Fujizakura, Tsukimisō, and Akafuji provide larger tatami spaces, while the Kokemomo private room offers a smaller dining setting.

The building also includes vending machines, separate indoor and open-air baths for men and women, and an after-bath relaxation area. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and accommodation rooms are non-smoking.

A ramp leads into the main entrance, and wheelchairs can be borrowed when available. Free outdoor parking accommodates around 40 cars, with additional space for larger vehicles and a charging point for electric cars.

Activities

Walk along the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchi and enjoy the water at different times of day. The nearby Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway takes you up Mount Tenjo for elevated views across the lake and toward Mt. Fuji when the weather is clear.

You can also take a sightseeing cruise, explore the shops and restaurants around Kawaguchiko Station, or visit Fuji-Q Highland for roller coasters and family attractions.

Art and culture around the lake include the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum and the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. The wider area also gives you access to Kawaguchi Asama Shrine, Oishi Park, Narusawa Ice Cave, Fugaku Wind Cave, and seasonal flower and autumn-leaf events.

After returning, you can change into your yukata, enjoy dinner, and finish the evening in the lake-view public bath or open-air bath.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. Dinner plans require arrival by the stated final check-in time so that the meal can be prepared and served correctly.

A complimentary transfer is available from Kawaguchiko Station. Call after reaching the station, and the vehicle will collect you from the designated accommodation pick-up area.

The walk from Kawaguchiko Station takes around eight minutes. By car, the property is a short drive from Kawaguchiko Interchange, and free parking is available.
