Perched on a hilltop overlooking the city of Ito and the Pacific Ocean, Yokikan has welcomed guests since 1910. Blending traditional Japanese architecture with the serenity of nature, it offers a peaceful retreat where you can slow down and immerse yourself in the onsen culture of the Izu Peninsula. One of its most unique features is its private cable railway—just 30 meters long but climbing a steep 45-degree slope—that carries guests directly to the open-air baths with sweeping coastal views.

Accommodation

Yokikan’s 21 guest rooms are designed in the sukiya-zukuri tea ceremony style, featuring natural wood, tatami floors, and large windows framing the gardens, mountains, or cityscape.

Standard Rooms – Around 40 m², located near the entrance with views of the mountains, garden, or Ito city. These rooms do not have private baths.

Special Rooms – Larger at 45–50 m², these offer in-room rock baths fed by natural hot spring water and partial ocean views.

In true ryokan style, a dedicated staff member attends to your room—serving meals, preparing futons, and ensuring comfort throughout your stay. Yukata robes, outer kimono for cooler weather, and all bathing amenities are provided.

Dining

Meals at Yokikan highlight both traditional Japanese flavors and local Izu specialties. Two dining options are available:

• Standard Meal – A seasonal 10–12 course dinner including soup, sashimi, grilled and simmered dishes, vinegar-flavored plates, and rice. Breakfast features grilled fish, tofu, miso soup, seaweed, and pickled vegetables.
• Chef’s Choice Meal – A more elaborate 13–15 course feast featuring premium items like spiny lobster sashimi, steamed abalone grilled tableside, and lobster miso soup at breakfast.

Meals are served either in your guest room or in a private dining room, depending on group size. Seasonal menus are adjusted for dietary requests when possible.

Onsen and Wellness

Yokikan offers two distinct bathing experiences:

• Rotenburo (Open-Air Bath) – Reached via the hilltop cable railway, this chloride-salt hot spring overlooks the ocean and Ito city. On clear days, you can see Hatsushima Island and the distant Boso Peninsula; at night, the sky is filled with stars. The high-temperature spring water is cooled before filling the bath.
• Indoor Baths – Located on the lobby floor, these simple alkaline hot springs are ideal for relieving fatigue and improving circulation. Men’s and women’s bathing areas switch daily at 8:30 p.m.

Bathing times are alternated between genders for the open-air bath, and all baths are closed midday for cleaning.
