Overview

Experience the timeless charm of Yoshida-ya, a lakeside ryokan on the tranquil shores of Lake Kamo in Sado Island. Established in the Ansei era of 1858, Yoshida-ya began as a traditional dining house and has carried its legacy of hospitality for over 150 years.

Your stay here brings you close to Sado’s natural beauty and rich culture. From the rooftop open-air bath, take in sweeping views of Lake Kamo and the surrounding mountains, which change dramatically with each season. In spring, enjoy fresh greenery; in summer, vibrant blues; in autumn, brilliant foliage; and in winter, the quiet stillness of snow.

The ryokan combines historical elegance with thoughtful service, offering a relaxing retreat after exploring Sado’s cultural treasures and scenic landscapes.

Accommodation

Yoshida-ya offers 64 rooms, ranging from traditional Japanese-style rooms to spacious suites with both tatami and Western-style beds. Every room features a calm, welcoming design that reflects the charm of Sado, with large windows framing the beauty of Lake Kamo.

Room types include:

  • Special Room: A combination of Japanese and Western-style spaces, located on the top floor for the best lake views. Ideal for special occasions.
  • Semi-Special Room: A generous layout with 10-tatami and 4-tatami rooms, perfect for families or small groups.
  • Standard Japanese Room: Comfortable 10-tatami rooms, recommended for couples or those seeking a cozy stay.

All rooms come with a private bath and toilet, yukata, towels, and daily essentials. Check-in is from 15:00, and check-out is at 10:00.

Dining

Meals at Yoshida-ya are deeply rooted in its heritage as a long-standing dining house. Dinner and breakfast are served either in your room or in a private dining area, allowing you to relax and enjoy the flavors at your own pace.

Dinner showcases seasonal ingredients from the Sea of Japan, with fresh seafood from the waters off Sado. You might enjoy delicacies such as sashimi from the day’s catch, grilled abalone, squid prepared in delicate strips, or snow crab when in season. Yoshida-ya also serves its own house-made squid salt-pickling, a recipe passed down since its founding.

Breakfast features freshly cooked Sado Koshihikari rice, local specialties like makigone-ri (a traditional dish), and grilled fish prepared on the spot.

Onsen and Wellness

Relax in the ryokan’s rooftop open-air bath, located on the 6th floor of the East Building. The view over Lake Kamo and Sado’s landscape is breathtaking, especially at sunset. The bath uses natural hot spring water from Sado Kamo Lake Onsen, known for its smooth, skin-friendly texture.

For year-round bathing, the spacious indoor bath “Umi no Yu” is available on the 1st floor of the West Building, open morning and evening. Both facilities provide a soothing escape after a day of sightseeing.

Guests with Tattoos: If you have tattoos, please speak with the staff for information on private bathing options, so you can fully enjoy the hot spring experience.
