Overview

Head to the southernmost hilltop of Kashikojima and discover Michishio, a ryokan offering panoramic views of Ago Bay, part of Ise-Shima National Park. With soft light reflecting on the water and a calm atmosphere, time seems to slow down here. You can enjoy this peaceful setting while relaxing in a traditional Japanese room, soaking in an open-air bath, or savoring a beautifully prepared meal served right in your room. Whether you’re planning a couple’s escape or a family retreat, Michishio offers a quiet break from daily life with views that stay with you long after your visit.

Accommodation

At Michishio, every room faces the ocean, so you can wake up to the stunning view of Ago Bay from the comfort of your futon or bed. Each room follows a traditional Japanese design, creating a warm and restful atmosphere. All rooms are non-smoking and come with free Wi-Fi.

Special Room with Open-Air Bath

Enjoy a little extra comfort in a room that combines Japanese and Western styles. Your private half open-air bath lets you relax whenever you want while looking out over the bay. These rooms also include a unit bath (not hot spring), internet TV, and a barrier-free shower-equipped toilet.

Room with Tsuboniwa Garden

This larger suite features two connected tatami rooms and a peaceful garden view. Designed for couples or families, it provides a spacious setting to unwind. It comes with a unit bath, separate toilet, and thoughtful lighting from the garden.

Japanese-Western Rooms

These rooms offer a mix of Western beds and traditional tatami space. Large windows open onto the bay, and the layout suits everyone, including older travelers. Some rooms include a shower, while others have a unit bath.

Standard Japanese Rooms

If you prefer a classic stay, choose a tatami room that looks directly out over the sea. These rooms offer a simple and comfortable setting with all the essentials you need for a relaxing visit.

Dining

Your stay includes dinner and breakfast, both served in your room for a private and unhurried dining experience. The signature “Michishio Kaiseki” features seasonal ingredients from the sea and land of Ise-Shima.

Dinner might include:

  • Freshly prepared sashimi with Ise lobster or abalone
  • Local delicacies like Hioshigai shellfish
  • Richly flavored dishes made with Ise’s own “Pearl Pork”

Each dish is carefully arranged to delight your eyes and your taste buds. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just taking time for yourself, these meals offer a true taste of the region’s culinary heritage.

Breakfast includes a traditional Japanese spread with items like grilled fish, miso soup, rice, and pickles — a gentle way to start your day with local flavor.

Onsen and Wellness

Michishio’s baths offer one of the best locations in the region. Step into the outdoor bath on the third floor or the indoor bath and herbal sauna on the fourth, and take in the sweeping views of Ago Bay. The ryokan uses artificial radium hot spring water, which offers similar effects to natural hot springs and helps ease tension from both body and mind.

The men’s and women’s baths switch daily, so if you stay overnight, you can try both. There’s also a family-friendly bath that you can reserve for private use. It’s ideal if you’re traveling with young children or need extra privacy. While not a hot spring or open-air bath, it offers comfort and convenience.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you cannot use the large communal baths unless your tattoos are completely covered. In that case, you may be allowed entry. You can always use the private family bath, which is available for a small fee and can be reserved.

You can also visit the nearby Mediterranean Village or the Shima Nature School by boat. A water taxi ride through Ago Bay’s pearl rafts offers both adventure and a scenic route to these local spots.
