Overview
Matsunoi Ryokan welcomes you to Minakami Onsen, where you can enjoy 100% free-flowing hot spring water, fresh seasonal cuisine, and stunning views of the Tanigawa mountain range. The spacious Japanese garden and peaceful atmosphere create the perfect setting to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature. Just two hours from Tokyo, Matsunoi offers an escape that feels worlds away.
Accommodation
Matsunoi offers three types of guest rooms, each with a private bath and toilet. Whether you’re here for a family trip or a quiet couple’s retreat, you’ll find a space that suits your needs.
- Zuiho Rou (Japanese-style): A 16㎡ tatami room for up to five people.
- Zuiten Rou (Japanese-Western style): A 20㎡ room with a twin bed and tatami area, for up to eight people.
- Zuiun Rou (Western-style): An 18.6㎡ room with twin beds, ideal for two guests.
All rooms include a television, safety box, refrigerator, yukata (for adults and children), face and bath towels, toothbrush, body soap, rinse-in shampoo, soap, and a hair dryer. Depending on the season, you’ll also receive a padded kimono or short coat for extra comfort.
Dining
Matsunoi serves fresh, organic ingredients sourced from trusted local farmers. The food here is guided by three principles: safe, fresh, and delicious. You can enjoy seasonal dishes that highlight the region’s best produce.
For dinner, head to the restaurant for a buffet filled with Joshu beef, sushi made with wild-caught bluefin tuna, and a range of Japanese favorites. Every meal is crafted with care and meant to satisfy both the appetite and the spirit.
Onsen and Wellness
Matsunoi owns four private hot spring sources. The water flows naturally from the spring, without dilution or recirculation. It’s piped from the base of the bath to preserve its purity and avoid contact with air.
The baths offer a variety of experiences:
- Firefly Light Bath: Inspired by the garden stream and fireflies, this open-air bath offers a gentle, glowing atmosphere. You can even spot real fireflies from mid-June to early July.
- Moon Light Bath: The largest bath area, with two open-air baths, mist sauna (women), dry sauna (men), and a napping room where you can read or rest in a low-temperature sauna.
- Firelight Bath: Overlooks the Japanese garden and combines both free-flowing and recirculated water for a soothing soak.
You can also reserve a private open-air bath:
- Hoshizora no Yu and Kantela no Yu: Stylish private baths perfect for families or couples. Reservation required at check-in.
- Soku no Yu, Seiga no Yu, Muso no Yu: Unique private baths made from different materials like hinoki cypress and Shigaraki ware. Reservation required at check-in.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, please check with the front desk about using the public baths or reserving a private onsen. Private baths offer a relaxing alternative for anyone who prefers a more secluded experience.
