Overview
Step into a place where heritage and comfort come together. Tendoso has welcomed travelers since the early Meiji era, beginning as a small unagi restaurant. Today, it offers an intimate ryokan experience in the heart of Tendo Onsen, just a five-minute drive from JR Tendo Station. From seasonal kaiseki dining to soothing hot springs and timeless Japanese architecture, Tendoso invites you to enjoy a peaceful stay that honors tradition and elegance.
Accommodation
Tendoso blends quiet luxury with classic design. Rooms feature thoughtful touches, calming interiors, and views of the inner garden or surrounding town. Whether you’re looking for a serene retreat or a base to explore Yamagata, your room provides the calm and comfort you need.
Each room includes essential amenities such as yukata, bath towels, face towels, toothbrushes, a hairdryer, and bath products. The ryokan offers both traditional Japanese rooms and Western-style options with a Japanese aesthetic.
Dining
Dining at Tendoso is an experience in itself. The signature Tendoso Kaiseki features a rotating monthly menu inspired by the 24 solar terms, using seasonal ingredients from Yamagata and carefully selected fish and vegetables.
The meal often begins with grilled eel kabayaki, a specialty handed down over generations since the ryokan’s earliest days. From there, you’ll enjoy dishes that showcase mountain vegetables, delicate seafood, and premium local beef, all beautifully arranged and served on seasonal tableware.
The ryokan places special emphasis on Yamagata-grown rice, including “Tsuyahime,” known for its glossy grains and balanced flavor, and “Haenuki,” a firmer, flavorful rice prized for its texture and taste.
Onsen and Wellness
Unwind in the ryokan’s indoor bath surrounded by moss and stone, designed to reflect the beauty of Japan’s natural landscape. The hot spring water comes from Tendo Onsen and contains sodium and calcium sulfate—known for helping circulation, soothing skin conditions, and relieving muscle and joint tension.
The water temperature is approximately 64.7°C. The bath area encourages quiet relaxation and reflection, helping you recharge both body and mind.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use the public baths even if you have tattoos. Tendoso welcomes all travelers to enjoy the hot springs without restriction.
