Overview
Stay opposite Yuzawa Kogen Ski Resort at Hotel K, a small winter-focused hotel in Echigo-Yuzawa. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway is around one minute away on foot, while Echigo-Yuzawa Station can be reached in approximately 14 minutes on foot or about five minutes by shuttle when the transfer service is operating.
Only ten rooms are available, creating a more personal setting than you would find at a large ski resort. The current operator began running Hotel K in 2024 after working in Okinawa’s diving industry, bringing together a love of summer diving and winter skiing.
The building was chosen with snow holidays in mind. You have a spacious elevator for bulky luggage, a private bathroom in every room, dedicated ski storage and drying space, free laundry facilities, ski-maintenance equipment, and a natural hot spring bath for warming up after a day outside.
Echigo-Yuzawa is one of Japan’s easiest snow destinations to reach from Tokyo. The fastest Joetsu Shinkansen services complete the journey in around 77 minutes, placing the slopes, onsen town, restaurants, and heavy winter snowfall within easy reach for a short break.
Accommodation
Choose from Western Twin Rooms, a Deluxe Double Room, Deluxe Triple Rooms, and large Japanese rooms. Each room has its own bathroom and toilet, along with a dedicated area for storing and drying skis or snowboards.
Rooms 301 and 401 are Western Twin Rooms measuring approximately seven tsubo, or 23 square metres. Two separate beds make this category a straightforward choice when you travel alone or as a pair.
Room 305 is the Deluxe Double Room, also described as a Queen Room in the current accommodation information. It measures approximately 12 tsubo, or 40 square metres, and includes one queen bed. Additional floor bedding can be prepared when you stay with a larger group.
Rooms 306 and 406 are Deluxe Triple Rooms measuring approximately 12 tsubo, or 40 square metres. Their wider layouts provide more room for winter clothing, luggage, and equipment after you return from the slopes.
Rooms 302, 303, 402, 403, and 405 are Japanese rooms measuring approximately 19 tsubo, or 63 square metres. Tatami flooring and futon bedding give you a traditional sleeping arrangement, while the generous floor space works well when you travel with family or friends.
Every room is non-smoking and includes air conditioning, heating, blackout curtains, a television, refrigerator, humidifier, hair dryer, towels, bedding, and free Wi-Fi. The private in-room bathrooms use regular water rather than natural hot spring water.
Dining
A buffet breakfast is served each morning in two sittings. You choose or receive your breakfast time during check-in, with the first sitting from 7:00 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. and the second from 8:30 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
The breakfast gives you a practical start before skiing or travelling. The exact selection can change, so you can expect a straightforward hotel buffet rather than a formal Japanese ryokan breakfast served course by course.
Restaurant K opens in the evening from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for meals and drinks. The dining style is casual rather than kaiseki, making it easy to eat without changing out of the relaxed clothing you wear around the hotel.
You can also walk toward Echigo-Yuzawa Station and the hot spring district for izakayas, noodle shops, regional cooking, and Niigata sake. This gives you flexibility when you prefer to try a different restaurant each evening.
Onsen and Wellness
Hotel K has a shared indoor bath supplied with natural water from the Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen area. The bath gives you a convenient place to warm your body and ease tired muscles without leaving the building.
The bathing area is communal rather than reservable. It is separate from the private bathrooms inside the accommodation rooms, which do not contain natural hot spring water.
Large windows bring the winter scenery into the bathing space when snow covers the surrounding area. After skiing or snowboarding, you can return your equipment to its drying area and head directly to the onsen.
The natural hot spring is included during your stay. There is no private onsen, open-air bath, or in-room hot spring bath.
Guests with Tattoos
Hotel K’s natural hot spring bath is a shared facility, and no private onsen is available. You cannot use the communal bath when your tattoos are visible.
Facilities
A large elevator makes it easier to move suitcases, ski bags, and snowboarding equipment between floors. Every room also has its own ski and snowboard storage and drying area, so you can keep wet equipment away from your sleeping space and prepare it for the following morning.
Free washing machines and dryers support longer winter stays. Ski-repair equipment is also available, allowing you to carry out basic maintenance without searching for a workshop elsewhere in town.
Free luggage storage helps when you arrive before check-in or want to spend more time skiing after leaving your room. Transport connections, ski-lesson arrangements, and equipment-rental support can also be organised through the hotel.
A children’s recreation area provides an indoor place to spend time away from the snow. A mahjong room adds another evening activity when you travel with friends or family.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. All indoor areas are non-smoking, and pets are not accepted apart from recognised assistance dogs. You need to keep noise low after 10:00 p.m.
Activities
Yuzawa Kogen Ski Resort sits directly opposite the hotel. You can walk to the ropeway in around one minute and travel up the mountain for skiing, snowboarding, snow play, and elevated views across the Echigo-Yuzawa area.
The wider Yuzawa region contains 17 ski areas, with many reached from Echigo-Yuzawa Station by seasonal shuttle or transfer. Choices include GALA Yuzawa, Iwappara, Ishiuchi Maruyama, Kagura, Naeba, Maiko, NASPA Ski Garden, Joetsu Kokusai, Yuzawa Nakazato, and Kandatsu Snow Resort.
This range lets you change the style of your ski day. You can choose gentle open slopes for practice, larger linked mountain areas for longer runs, family snow parks, or more demanding terrain for experienced skiers and snowboarders.
Hotel K works with several rental shops. At Snow Rental Shop near Iwappara, you can provide the recommendation code “HOTELK” when arranging your equipment. Other suggested suppliers include JapSnow and local rental shops around Yuzawa.
Photography and video services can also be arranged. You can request ski or snowboard photographs taken with a dedicated camera, followed by editing and delivery through a digital link. Video production and post-editing are available through a separate arrangement.
Away from the slopes, you can explore the restaurants, shops, and sake culture around Echigo-Yuzawa Station. Ponshukan provides an introduction to Niigata sake, while the wider area offers snowshoeing, snow activities, and seasonal mountain scenery.
Additional Features
Check-in is available from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Check-out takes place between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
A station shuttle is available as part of Hotel K’s transport support. Service times and collection arrangements depend on the day, so transfers need to fit the current operating schedule.
The hotel also assists with connections to ski areas, ski lessons, and rental providers. This can reduce the amount of equipment and planning required before you arrive.
Hotel K suits you when skiing or snowboarding forms the main purpose of your stay. You can walk to Yuzawa Kogen, store and dry your equipment beside your room, use the laundry and repair facilities, eat breakfast before heading out, and finish the day in the natural hot spring bath.
