Overview
Onahama Ocean Hotel & Golf Club gives you a coastal golf-and-onsen stay in Iwaki, Fukushima, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Terushima, and the on-site seaside golf course. You stay in a resort-style hotel where every room has a balcony, so the sea and green fairways stay close from morning to evening. The setting works especially well when you want golf, ocean air, natural hot spring bathing, and easy access to the Onahama area.
The hotel is directly connected to an 18-hole seaside golf course, selected for Best Golf Resorts in Asia 2019 by U.S. Golf Digest. After a round, you can move straight into Terushima Onsen, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight without leaving the property.
Accommodation
You can choose from six main room types: suite, semi-suite, twin room, compact twin room, single room, and Japanese-style room. The suite is 90㎡ and gives you a separate living room and bedroom, with wide Pacific views and a bathroom where you can also look out toward the sea. The semi-suite is 60㎡ and faces Terushima and the Pacific, giving you more space than a standard room while keeping a relaxed layout.
The twin room is 42㎡, with semi-double beds, a sofa, and balcony views toward the ocean and greenery. The compact twin room is 25㎡ and works well when you want a simpler twin setup with a balcony. The single room is also 25㎡, with a semi-double bed and sofa, making it a good option for solo travel or business use.
The Japanese-style room gives you a 10-tatami tatami layout with separate bath, toilet, and washbasin areas. From the balcony, you can look toward the Pacific, and on clear mornings you can enjoy sunrise over the horizon.
All rooms now include humidifying air purifiers, and room mineral water is prepared for overnight stays. Free Wi-Fi is available in the building.
Dining
Dining gives you several choices depending on your plan and style. Ocean Grill Seagull serves Southern European cuisine and full grill courses, with menus that may include seafood, domestic wagyu, Sendai beef, abalone, lobster, soup, salad, bread or rice, dessert, and coffee or tea. This restaurant currently opens mainly on Fridays and Saturdays and requires advance reservation.
Hotel Restaurant Sunrise serves dinner buffet-style, with items such as roast beef, Japanese appetizers, salads, desserts, warm Western and Chinese-style dishes, sashimi, sushi, fried local fish, curry, ramen, hot pot-style dishes, and children’s favorites. If you choose a Japanese kaiseki plan, you dine in a private room at the Japanese banquet venue.
Breakfast is served at Restaurant Aqua on the B1 floor. You can enjoy a buffet while looking down toward the Pacific Ocean and golf course, giving your morning a bright resort feel before golf or sightseeing. Tea Lounge Dimple is also available as a free space for coffee time, meetings, or a pause after golf.
Onsen and Wellness
Terushima Onsen is a natural hot spring with views toward the Pacific from the open-air bath. The large public bath area includes open-air bathing, indoor bathing, Jacuzzi bath, sauna, cold bath, and separate shower booths. The water has a slightly yellow-brown tone, and the bath is designed for relaxing after golf, sightseeing, or a long drive.
The spring quality is sodium-calcium chloride spring water, with low-tonicity, weak alkalinity, and low-temperature source water. The source temperature is listed at 25.7°C, with pH 7.9, and the water is heated and diluted for bathing. Listed indications include chronic muscle and joint pain, lower back pain, neuralgia, frozen shoulder, bruises, sprains, cold sensitivity, fatigue recovery, cuts, poor peripheral circulation, dry skin, and general health promotion.
Bathing hours for overnight stays run from early morning to late night, with a mid-morning cleaning break. Towels are prepared in the changing area, so you can use the bath without carrying towels from your room.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you cannot use the public hot spring baths. The current in-house guide states that bathing is strictly refused for people with tattoos.
Facilities
Onahama Ocean Hotel & Golf Club gives you plenty to use between golf, meals, and bath time. You can relax in Tea Lounge Dimple, browse the golf and souvenir shop, use the karaoke room, or spend time in the sea-view lobby. A kids’ corner in the lobby gives younger children a soft play area with play equipment and a small putting-style toy, making the stay easier when you travel as a family.
Practical facilities include free Wi-Fi, vending machines, ice machine, water server, microwave, outdoor smoking area, barrier-free toilet on the first floor, and welcome drink service for overnight stays. You also have free parking and a free shuttle bus from JR Izumi Station, making arrival easier by car or train.
The golf side adds another layer to the stay. You have an 18-hole, par-72 seaside course with self-play or caddie options, GPS-equipped riding carts, rental clubs, rental shoes, lockers, and toilets on the course. The 16th hole crosses the sea, and the 18th hole runs along the ocean side, giving the round a strong coastal character.
Activities
Golf is the main activity here. You can play an 18-hole seaside course with Pacific views from every hole, including ocean-crossing and ocean-side holes that make the round feel memorable. The climate in Onahama is mild, with relatively little rain and snow, so the area works well for year-round golf trips.
For sightseeing, you can visit Aquamarine Fukushima, Iwaki Marine Tower, Iwaki City Coal & Fossil Museum, Shiramizu Amidado, Spa Resort Hawaiians, and Shioyasaki Lighthouse. Aquamarine Fukushima has more than 800 species on display and hands-on family activities, while Shioyasaki Lighthouse stands on a cliff above the coast and remains one of Iwaki’s classic ocean-view spots.
