Overview
Tokiwa no Yado Hamatoku is a hot spring ryokan in Iwaki Yumoto Onsen, Fukushima, close to Spa Resort Hawaiians. You stay in a relaxed onsen setting with several room wings, sulfur hot spring baths, private open-air baths, Japanese dining, and easy access to Iwaki’s coastal and family-friendly sightseeing areas. Hamatoku works especially well when you want hot spring time, seafood-focused meals, and a convenient base for Hawaiians, Iwaki’s coastline, and Yumoto Onsen.
The stay centers on three main bathing areas: Yumemi no Niwa, two private garden open-air baths, and Yui no Meguriyu. You can move between large baths, open-air baths, ceramic tubs, rock baths, and private bathing spaces, making the onsen experience the strongest feature of the ryokan.
Accommodation
You can choose from several room styles across Hamatoku’s main wings and annex. Room options include Aoikan Hanaasobi, Tofukan special rooms, Hakounoma, rooms with private open-air baths, Seifukan renovated rooms, Seifukan Japanese rooms, and the Hamatoku Annex next to the main building.
Aoikan Hanaasobi has five spacious rooms with semi-open-air baths. You can choose Western-style or Japanese-Western layouts. These room baths are private, but they do not use hot spring water.
Tofukan special rooms offer a more spacious layout with two connected areas. Room styles include Japanese room plus Western room, or Japanese room plus Japanese room. This is a good choice when you want more room to relax with family or friends.
Hakounoma sits on the top floor of Tofukan and gives you two Japanese-style rooms plus a black granite view bath. It is designed as one of the more refined room options when you want extra space and a stronger suite feeling.
The rooms with private open-air baths have ceramic tubs set on deck terraces. You can choose Japanese-style or two-bed layouts. These baths are private, but they are not hot spring baths.
Seifukan includes modern Japanese rooms and standard Japanese rooms, with some renovated rooms added in 2022. These rooms suit you when you want a simpler stay while still enjoying the ryokan’s baths, meals, and shared spaces.
Dining
Dinner focuses on Japanese cuisine using seafood and mountain ingredients. The meal style changes by plan, but the dining concept brings together sea and land flavors in a seasonal Japanese meal. Hamatoku also offers group meal plans with dishes such as seasonal hot pot, sashimi, selected beef, beef tongue, shrimp, and crab-style seafood dishes depending on the plan.
Breakfast is usually served buffet style, with colorful Japanese and Western-style items. Depending on the stay date or operating needs, breakfast may change to a set meal. You can also request a Japanese morning set meal with colorful dishes served in a basket-style presentation.
Seasonal plans may highlight richer ingredients such as abalone, thick-cut beef tongue, and Joban-mono seafood from the Fukushima coast. This makes dining especially appealing when you want a meal connected to Iwaki’s coastal food culture.
Onsen and Wellness
Hamatoku uses Iwaki Yumoto Onsen water. The spring quality is sulfur spring water, with a listed source temperature of 59.7°C. Listed benefits include chronic skin disease, chronic women’s health concerns, cuts, diabetes, burns, weak constitution in children, arteriosclerosis, and high blood pressure.
Yumemi no Niwa is on the third floor and includes one indoor bath, four outdoor baths, a rock open-air bath, ceramic baths, a large hollowed-stone bath, and the “legendary golden bath” using 18-karat gold. This is one of the most distinctive bathing areas at Hamatoku.
Yui no Meguriyu connects two large public baths into one larger bathing area. The men’s and women’s bath areas change the next morning, so you can enjoy a different bath atmosphere during your stay.
You can also use two private garden open-air baths, Shikō no Yu and Hōgetsu no Yu. These baths look toward a Japanese garden and are available for overnight stays, with each session used for around 50 minutes. They are a good choice when you want a quieter soak with more privacy.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you cannot use public bathing areas or other public facilities where tattoos are visible. For more privacy, use one of the private open-air baths and confirm the current handling before arrival.
Facilities
Hamatoku gives you several shared spaces for an easy ryokan stay. You can relax in the lounge Deai no Komichi, where coffee and soft drinks are available during afternoon service, or browse Tabi no Tamatebako, the shop selling Iwaki and Fukushima products. The party room Yūjin can be used for private group gatherings and after-dinner time.
The bathing facilities are the main focus, with Yumemi no Niwa, Yui no Meguriyu, two private garden open-air baths, and rooms with private non-onsen baths in selected categories. You also have banquet rooms, a bar lounge, vending machines, massage service, courier service, and parking.
For groups, Hamatoku has spaces for reunions, company trips, training sessions, exhibitions, year-end gatherings, New Year gatherings, second-party events, karaoke-style gatherings, small banquet rooms, and meeting use. Web environment requests can also be discussed for event settings.
