Overview

Step into a slower rhythm of life at Suigan, a ryokan surrounded by the untouched nature of a national park. Time flows differently here. No alarms, no rush. Just the sound of wind through the trees and the occasional murmur of a mountain stream. This is your space to pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect.

When every day feels packed with information and noise, true luxury means having time to yourself—without schedules, without obligations. Suigan offers that rare chance to live without a clock. Stay as long as you like. Linger in the bath. Watch the light shift across the valley. Let time unfold at your own pace.

Accommodation

Suigan features seven distinct rooms, each designed with the idea of freeing you from the constraints of everyday life. No two rooms are alike. Each suite offers its own unique layout and features to match the way you want to spend your time.

All rooms draw from three on-site hot spring sources, blended to create the perfect bathwater. Some rooms include private outdoor baths. Others come with personal saunas or in-room theaters, letting you choose exactly how you want to relax. Each suite is spacious, designed to give you a sense of openness and comfort.

Whether you’re looking for a panoramic soak in a cliffside bath or a quiet evening in a room with a personal theater, you’ll find a space that suits your mood.

Dining

Suigan gives you full control over your dining experience. If you’re staying for more than a night or two, you won’t be locked into the same set meals every evening. You can choose a plan without dinner, bring your favorite food and drinks, or explore nearby restaurants with transportation provided.

You can also enjoy the house specialty, a handcrafted shabu-shabu meal served in your room. Created in collaboration with the owner of a local meat shop and a chef from Daiichi Hotel, this meal comes neatly arranged in a multi-tiered box. You cook and serve it yourself, right in your room. No interruptions. Just you and the meal, whenever you’re ready.

On weekends, you have the option to reserve an exclusive dinner by Michelin-starred chef Komatsu at “Shokudo Ichi,” a nearby restaurant. This innovative cuisine is only available to Suigan’s overnight guests. The chef’s course, available on Fridays and Saturdays, delivers a dining experience that’s thoughtful, seasonal, and deeply personal.

If you’re in the mood to explore, Suigan gives you access to other dining locations across Jozankei. From charcoal-grilled specialties at Kuwanoki to multi-course meals at Suiyantei Club, you can make a reservation and dine where and how you like. Shuttle service is available for most locations.

Onsen and Wellness

Suigan doesn’t have a public bath on-site, by design. Instead, the entire experience revolves around privacy and comfort. Your room becomes your spa. Each suite includes a private bath using Suigan’s original blend of three hot spring sources.

If you want to try something new, you can visit several affiliated bathhouses throughout Jozankei. Enjoy open-air baths, cedar saunas, and stone tubs surrounded by forest. Your stay includes access to these facilities, adding variety to your wellness routine without losing the peaceful atmosphere.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you’re welcome to enjoy the baths in your room or visit any of the partner facilities that offer private bathing options. Suigan supports inclusive and flexible wellness experiences, so you never have to compromise.

Facilities

Suigan takes a minimal approach to shared spaces. There’s no lobby lounge or communal area. Everything centers on your room. That way, you enjoy a completely private stay from start to finish.

You still have access to a special space called the Suigan Storage Room on the first floor. Here, you’ll find nostalgic snacks, cold drinks, ice, towels, and a few other essentials. Take what you need and return to your room to relax.

During your stay, you also receive a premium access pass to explore 13 unique destinations across the Jozankei area. From sweet shops to hot springs, this pass lets you experience more of the town in a fun, flexible way.

Activities

Jozankei offers beautiful nature walks and cultural spots you can explore right from the ryokan. The Futami Suspension Bridge leads to a scenic walking trail with views of river bends and curious rock formations. In autumn, the trees explode in red and gold, making this one of the area’s most popular seasonal highlights.

With your premium access pass, you can enjoy local sweets from “Rainy and Snowy Days” gelato shop, sip drinks at the Jozankei Commerce Inn, or trade your ryokan breakfast for a set meal at Shokudo Ichi or a burger at Exclamation Bakery. It’s a refreshing way to change up your morning routine.

You can also enjoy simple pleasures like wandering the streets with a warm manju bun in hand, tasting pizza made in a local café, or just watching the seasons change from a quiet corner of the village.
