Overview
Experience the beauty of Hakone from the comfort of a private suite at Hotel Sengokubara COCON. Located 800 meters above sea level, just beyond the golden fields of susuki grass in Sengokubara, this small luxury hotel offers a peaceful retreat far from city life. The hotel sits on a vast 3,300㎡ garden and features five exclusive suites, each over 92㎡. Here, you can enjoy private onsen baths with mineral-rich waters from Owakudani, as well as personal saunas and adjustable-temperature water baths.
Once praised as “the land of fertility” by the legendary samurai Minamoto no Yoritomo, this area continues to offer timeless comfort and natural abundance. Whether you soak in a herbal bath, dine on modern French cuisine, or relax in your room with mountain views, your stay at COCON helps you slow down and reconnect with yourself.
Accommodation
Each of the five suites gives you a villa-like experience with spacious interiors, private spa features, and scenic views. Rooms include hot spring baths sourced from Owakudani, private saunas, and temperature-controlled water baths to refresh after a soak. The refined interiors use furniture from Edra, Bonaldo, and Poltrona Frau, handpicked by the owner to complement the clean, modern design.
The second floor houses three forest-view suites—“SHO,” “NENE,” and “AOI”—each facing the garden and surrounded by trees. On the third floor, you’ll find the terrace suite “BOU” and the luxury suite “AYA,” both offering panoramic views of the Hakone mountains.
Large windows in every suite frame the natural beauty outside, bringing the changing seasons into your room. These suites are perfect for a slow-paced, high-comfort stay in the heart of nature.
Dining
Enjoy a dining experience built around the rhythms of the season. Dinner features modern French cuisine, crafted with premium ingredients sourced from across Japan. Chefs use wood-fire grilling and fermentation techniques to bring out deep flavors. Ingredients include brand-name Japanese beef, local seafood, and specialty vegetables. The kitchen’s open design lets you feel the energy behind each dish.
Vegan and vegetarian options are available by request, and the wine list—curated by an experienced sommelier—offers both alcoholic and non-alcoholic pairings to match your meal.
In the morning, start your day with a traditional Japanese breakfast that focuses on local and homemade ingredients. It’s both nourishing and thoughtfully prepared, helping you ease into a new day.
Onsen and Wellness
Soak in the mineral-rich waters of Owakudani Onsen in a semi open-air bath surrounded by bamboo. These public baths give you a gentle, therapeutic experience in a peaceful garden setting. You can also try the hotel’s original herbal bath, made from a blend of 12 Japanese herbs including dokudami and kumazasa. These traditional ingredients help improve circulation, soothe the skin, and support overall relaxation.
Whether you relax in your private in-room bath or unwind in the public herbal bath, you’ll leave feeling refreshed from head to toe.

You are welcome to use both private and public bath facilities regardless of tattoos. Since rooms include personal bathing areas, you can enjoy complete privacy during your stay.
