Overview
Awaji International Hotel The Sun Plaza puts you right on the edge of the Seto Inland Sea. Every room in the hotel faces the ocean, offering you an uninterrupted 180-degree view of the water. Whether you’re coming from Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, or even Kansai International Airport, you can get here easily by car or bus in just two to two and a half hours.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a world designed for comfort and relaxation. The ocean stretches out in front of you, the scent of fresh ingredients fills the dining room, and the warm waters of the Sumoto Hot Spring welcome you to let go of stress. This ryokan brings together everything you need to slow down and recharge—without needing to travel far.
Accommodation
Every room at The Sun Plaza gives you a full panoramic view of the sea. No matter which floor you stay on, you can watch the waves change from sunrise to sunset. Many guests say that just sitting by the window and looking at the water soothes the mind and heart.
The 6th floor offers the “Nami no Oto” (Wave Sound) rooms for a special, upgraded stay. On the top floor, the 7th, you’ll find Japanese-Western style rooms that blend traditional and modern comfort. If you’re traveling with family, the spacious Japanese rooms on the 3rd floor give you plenty of space to relax together.
Rooms come equipped with everything you need: yukata, towels, a refrigerator, LCD TV, air conditioning, a bath with bidet toilet, electric pot, wash basin, and a full set of toiletries. Just unpack, sit back, and let the ocean do the rest.
Dining
Every dinner at The Sun Plaza is a Kaiseki meal built around seasonal ingredients from Awaji Island. The head chef, Ryosuke Tanaka, refined the menu and dining experience through years of research, all with one goal—to hear you say, “That was delicious.”
Each dish is served one at a time so you can enjoy every flavor while it’s at its best. Hot dishes arrive piping hot. Cold dishes stay perfectly chilled. The menu changes with the seasons, balancing tastes like sweet, sour, and bitter to bring out the natural flavor of local seafood and vegetables.
The experience doesn’t stop at taste. The serving dishes themselves are carefully chosen to match each meal, using colors and shapes that elevate the presentation. The main dining room, Yuraku, surrounds you with the soft feel of wood and orange clay walls, creating a space that enhances both flavor and mood.
- Yolk in soy sauce: A rich, sticky yolk soaked for days to bring out deep flavor, perfect with sashimi.
- Black burdock: Cooked for over two days to remove bitterness, this earthy dish shows the careful work behind each course.
Onsen and Wellness
You can unwind completely in the baths fed by Sumoto Hot Spring. Whether you prefer a large public bath, an outdoor bath, or a private session, there’s a space that lets you stretch out and let go.
The public bath area includes a sauna for men and a mist steam bath for women. You can also enjoy a Jacuzzi, cascading bath, and a large outdoor tub made with natural rocks. The water is a simple radon spring, colorless and gentle on the skin, kept at a natural warm temperature.
If you want privacy, you can reserve one of three private hot spring baths: Shinonome, Harusame, or Komorebi. Sessions are available in the evening hours and start every hour or half hour depending on the bath. These private spaces are for overnight guests only and offer complete seclusion while you soak.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you can enjoy the private hot spring baths without any issue. Public baths may have restrictions, so reserving a private bath gives you full access to a relaxing soak in total privacy.
Facilities
Everything at the hotel is set up to make your stay feel smooth and comfortable. You’ll find amenities in both the public and private baths, including shampoo, rinse, body soap, shower caps, and dryers.
If you’re not staying overnight, you can still use the public bath during the afternoon and evening hours. Free parking is available on-site.
Activities
Even though the ocean is right outside your room, there’s more to explore around Awaji Island. You can take short trips to nearby beaches, shrines, and scenic spots, then return to the hotel for a long soak and a slow, satisfying dinner.
In the evening, enjoy the sound of waves from your room and the quiet rhythm of the sea. Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the water—it’s one of the most peaceful ways to start your day.
