Overview

Futagojimaso sits above the stunning Saikazaki coast, where you can enjoy the rhythm of the sea, the brush of the ocean breeze, and some of Japan’s most beautiful sunsets. This retro seaside ryokan has welcomed travelers since the Showa era. You’ll find warmth not in polished luxury, but in heartfelt, down-to-earth hospitality that invites you to relax and let your cares drift away.

Accommodation

Every room at Futagojimaso features wide windows and sweeping ocean views. Watch the colors of the sky change over the Kii Channel and listen to the sound of the waves as you unwind.

Room Types Include:

  • Two-Room Suite A with Balcony
Renovated in 2018, this spacious room features a Japanese-style room with twin beds and another 12-tatami room. Open the divider and you’ll have one of the largest spaces in the ryokan—about 24 tatami mats in size.
  • Two-Room Suite B with Open-Air Bath
Added in 2020, this room includes an ocean-facing balcony with a private open-air bath. Relax while gazing over the Kii Channel and its famous sunsets.
  • Two-Room Suite C (Corner Room)
This 10-tatami corner room offers a wide panoramic view of the sea and lighthouse. A second Japanese-style twin room with a small step down connects the space.
  • Two-Room Suite D (Panoramic View)
Renovated in 2023, this room is the best viewpoint in the ryokan. A 15-tatami room connects with a semi-Western twin room—together, they offer expansive views and ample space.
  • Panoramic Ocean View Room
Also renovated in 2023, this corner room includes 15-tatami of space, twin beds, and a large window for an immersive view of sea and sky.
  • Ocean View Standard Room
Available in both Japanese and semi-Western styles. These simple yet comfortable rooms let you take in the sights of Wakanoura and Saikazaki’s coastal beauty.

Many rooms include balconies or wide sitting areas where you can listen to the sea and watch the light change from dawn to dusk.

Dining

Futagojimaso celebrates the rich flavors of the sea. The highlight? Lavishly arranged sashimi served in traditional boat platters, featuring the day’s freshest catch.

Your meals showcase the bounty of local ports like Saikazaki and Wakaura, including:

  • Tai (Sea Bream) – Enjoy it as sashimi or slow-cooked in house-made broth.
  • Hamo (Pike Conger) – A summer specialty, often paired with plum sauce.
  • Kue (Longtooth Grouper) – A prized winter delicacy.
  • Tachiuo (Cutlassfish) – Served as sashimi, tempura, or vinegared.
  • Ashikaebi (Red Shrimp) – A local favorite with a rich, plump texture.
  • Kumano Beef – Featured in seasonal kaiseki courses.
  • Gray Mullet and Shirasu (Young Sardines) – Served steamed and tender.

Start your day with a traditional Japanese breakfast, featuring local specialties like ash-dried sanma (mackerel pike), a regional delicacy packed with flavor.

Onsen and Wellness

Relax in the Hanafuri Bath, where floor-to-ceiling views of the Kitan Strait and Awaji Island give you front-row seats to one of Japan’s “Top 100 Sunsets.”

The public bath includes both indoor and open-air tubs, each with warm, silky-smooth water. Feel the elements—ocean breeze, golden sunlight, and the scent of the tide—calm your mind and body.

Facilities: Shampoos, conditioners, body soap, face wash, cotton swabs, dryers, and more

Note: There are four steps to reach the baths. There are no private baths available.

The hot spring water comes from the base of Mount Ryumon, known as “Kishu Fuji,” and is famous for its skin-soothing properties and deep-heat effect.
