Overview
Hotel Housei places you in Shinshu’s Yudanaka Onsen area, one of Nagano’s classic hot spring destinations. You stay close to mountain scenery, snow-monkey sightseeing, ski resorts, and the long onsen culture of Yudanaka, whose history goes back more than 1,350 years. Inside the hotel, the appeal is simple and comforting: flowing natural hot spring water, Japanese-style rooms, warm local meals, and an easy base for exploring Yamanouchi.
Accommodation
Japanese-Style Room 10 Tatami with Toilet gives you a classic Japanese stay with tatami flooring and a calm, simple layout. It works well when you want the feel of a traditional room while keeping things practical.
Japanese-Style Room 10 Tatami with Bath and Toilet adds an in-room bath, so you can enjoy a more private onsen-style soak without leaving your room.
Japanese-Style Room 12 Tatami with Bath and Toilet gives you a larger Japanese-style space with an in-room bath and toilet, making it a good choice when you want extra room to unwind.
Special Room with Natural Hot Spring is the standout choice. You can soak in natural hot spring water in your room at your own pace, use a spacious changing area, and move around easily thanks to the barrier-free layout. This room also allows you to stay with your pet.
Dining
Dinner at Hotel Housei is warm, generous, and rooted in the flavors of Shinshu. You can look forward to a hearty meal built around three main dishes, with grilled items and hot pot prepared in front of you so you can enjoy them fresh and hot at the table. Local ingredients are used throughout the meal, and the dishes change with the season, so you taste what is best at that time of year.
During winter, you can choose from three seasonal dinner plans: a tempura course, a fish course, or a meat course. These plans are available from December 21 to March 31 and let you shape the meal around the main dish you most want to enjoy.
Breakfast is served buffet style, giving you a relaxed start to the day with seasonal Shinshu ingredients. The menu changes from day to day, so you can enjoy fresh local flavors rather than a fixed morning spread. Dinner and breakfast are normally served in the dining venue, and you can also choose an in-room dining plan when you want to enjoy seasonal dishes in a more private setting with your family or partner.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring is 100% natural, free-flowing water from the hotel’s own source. The large public bath, Shinichiro no Yu, lets you soak in plenty of hot spring water, and the open-air bath changes with the seasons. In summer, green trees reflect on the water; in winter, you can enjoy a snow-view bath. At night, lighting gives the outdoor bath a different mood.
The spring is listed as a sodium chloride spring with a source temperature of 74°C. Traditional listed benefits include neuralgia, rheumatism, skin concerns, cuts, and women’s ailments. Bathing at the public bath is available from 13:00 to 9:00 the next morning.
Guests with Tattoos
Because you can soak in a private onsen inside selected room types, you can enjoy the onsen regardless of tattoos. For the public bath, if you have tattoos, check with the hotel directly before using the shared bathing areas.
Facilities
You can relax in the lobby overlooking garden trees, visit the front desk for help, and browse the souvenir shop for fruit grown by Hotel Housei, Shinshu products, and local gifts.
The hotel also has reserved banquet halls, a bar space, vending machines with soft drinks and alcohol, a tea and bar lounge, meeting room, open-air bath, shop, ski rentals, ski wear rentals, snowboard rentals, shuttle bus service, computer access, courier service, Wi-Fi, and free parking.
Activities
You can visit Jigokudani Monkey Park, famous for wild monkeys that bathe in hot springs. The park area also gives you seasonal mountain scenery along its walking paths, and free shuttle service is available from the hotel.
In winter, you can head to X-JAM Takai Fuji, Ryuoo Ski Park, or Shiga Kogen Ski Area. X-JAM Takai Fuji is known for snowboard-friendly courses and beginner practice areas, while Ryuoo Ski Park offers 18 courses and long runs. Shiga Kogen gives you a large ski area in winter, plus wetlands, lakes, alpine plants, and autumn leaves outside ski season.
You can also visit Shiga Kogen Roman Museum, designed by Kisho Kurokawa, with Roman glass and related collections on display.
