Overview
Hotel Kikori, also known as Shunsai no Yado Hotel Kikori, is a hot spring ryokan in Hida-Furukawa, surrounded by the mountain and countryside scenery of Gifu Prefecture. You stay in a quiet Hida setting where seasonal views, local food, and natural hot spring bathing shape the pace of your stay. The building has the warm feel of an old Hida townhouse, with wood details and a calm interior that suits the rural landscape around it.
This property is a good choice when you want to enjoy the food culture of Hida, soak in Hida Furukawa Togenkyo Onsen, and use the ryokan as a base for Hida-Furukawa, Takayama, Shirakawago, and the wider mountain region.
Accommodation
Hotel Kikori offers both Japanese-style rooms and Western-style rooms. The Japanese-style rooms have 10 tatami mats, wood details, shoji screens, and a quiet atmosphere that works well when you want a more traditional ryokan stay. From the windows, you can enjoy seasonal views of the surrounding mountains and countryside, giving your room a calm connection to the Hida landscape.
The Western-style rooms are simple and comfortable, with twin beds, duvets, and a 23-square-meter layout. These rooms suit you well if you prefer beds while still enjoying the feel of a countryside hot spring inn. Some Western-style rooms may allow smoking, while Japanese-style rooms are non-smoking.
Your room includes Wi-Fi, heating and cooling, a refrigerator, a private bath and toilet, a hairdryer, towels, and basic bath items. The bath in your room is private, but it does not use hot spring water. Yukata are available at the front desk, and you can wear them while relaxing around the property.
Dining
Dining at Hotel Kikori focuses on the flavors of Hida-Furukawa. Dinner is served as Shunsai Gozen, a Japanese kaiseki-style meal prepared with seasonal ingredients from the mountains, rivers, and fields of the region. You can enjoy dishes that highlight Hida’s local food culture, including Hida beef, fresh local produce, river and seafood elements, and carefully prepared seasonal plates.
The dinner course may include small seasonal appetizers, a starter dish, vinegared dish, soup, simmered dish, main dish, sashimi, grilled fish, fried dish, Hida-grown Koshihikari rice, miso soup, pickles, and a seasonal sweet. Ingredients and dishes may change with the season and daily supply, which keeps the meal closely tied to the local landscape.
Breakfast is a Japanese-style morning meal with the warm, simple flavors of Hida. You can enjoy local Hoba miso, dashimaki rolled egg, Hida Koshihikari rice, and comforting side dishes that give you a steady start before sightseeing. Vegetarian-style kaiseki can also be arranged, with dishes that use mountain ingredients and medicinal herbs instead of meat and fish. Food allergy requests can only be handled within what the kitchen can safely prepare, as meals are prepared in the same kitchen with shared equipment.
Onsen and Wellness
Hotel Kikori’s large public baths use Hida Furukawa Togenkyo Onsen, a natural hot spring drawn from the property’s own source 1,000 meters underground. The spring is a simple hot spring with low tonicity, weak alkalinity, and a source temperature of 26.3°C. The water has a smooth feel on the skin, and the weak alkaline quality gives it the soft texture often associated with “beauty-skin” hot springs.
You can soak in gender-separated large public baths with both indoor and open-air bathing areas. The open-air bath looks out toward the nature of the Hida countryside, so you can enjoy fresh air, seasonal greenery, autumn color, or snow depending on when you visit. The indoor bath gives you a warm, quiet place to rest your body after travel, sightseeing, or outdoor activity.
The hot spring water is heated to a comfortable bathing temperature because the source is naturally cool. The baths also use circulation filtration and chlorine-based sanitation to keep the water clean. Bathing is generally available from 15:00 to midnight and again in the morning until 9:00, with the men’s and women’s bath areas switched overnight. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are available in the bathing area, while towels should be brought from your room.
Guests with Tattoos
Hotel Kikori has shared gender-separated indoor and open-air public hot spring baths. Tattoos should be fully covered before using these shared bathing areas. The private bath in your room can be used without concern, but it does not use hot spring water.
Facilities
Hotel Kikori has a quiet central courtyard, Restaurant Katsura for dinner and breakfast, shared indoor and open-air hot spring baths, banquet rooms, a large tatami banquet and meeting room, a meeting room, and Ganmi Kobo Shiki, a small sweets workshop inside the property. You can also use free Wi-Fi in the rooms and throughout the building, although connection speed may vary due to the local network environment. Parking is available in front of the entrance and on nearby property space, with room for standard cars and larger vehicles.
Activities
From Hotel Kikori, you can enjoy the quieter side of Hida while staying within reach of well-known sightseeing areas.
