Overview

Hotel Morinokaze Nasu gives you a highland hot spring stay surrounded by the forests and open scenery of Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture. The hotel draws inspiration from Taisho Roman design, blending Japanese details with classical Western touches. Warm wood, patterned ceilings, carefully chosen artwork, and soft lighting create a nostalgic atmosphere without making the building feel formal or difficult to enjoy.
You come here for panoramic bathing, seasonal dining, and time surrounded by the Nasu landscape. The top-floor baths look toward the Nasu mountain range and the countryside below, while large windows bring natural light into all 90 rooms. You can spend your day sightseeing around the highlands, return for a course dinner, and finish the evening in the open-air baths.
The hotel sits within Nasu Miyabi no Sato beside sister property Hotel Shiki no Yakata Nasu and close to Fruit Park Morinokaze. You remain within easy reach of museums, farms, family attractions, mountain walks, and seasonal flower displays. The balance of hot spring relaxation and nearby activities makes the hotel suitable for couples, families, small groups, and stays with a small dog.

Accommodation

All 90 rooms use a Japanese-Western design with tatami flooring, low furniture, large windows, and Simmons beds. You sleep on a bed rather than a traditional futon in the standard two-person setup, while selected larger rooms can add futons when more people stay. Every room is non-smoking and includes its own shower room, except the Deluxe category, which includes a private bathroom with a separate washing area.

The 28-square-metre Standard Japanese Twin Room gives you two beds placed on tatami and a window-side seating area with a table and chairs. The open layout keeps the room easy to use, making it a comfortable choice when you plan to spend most of your time sightseeing, dining, and bathing.

The 37-square-metre Superior A Room adds a separate Japanese sitting area beside the twin-bed space. You can relax around the low table during the day, then move into the bedroom area when you want to rest. The south-facing windows bring in soft daylight and views of the Nasu surroundings.

The 40-square-metre Superior B Room gives you more space than Superior A and can use additional futons when needed. It combines two Simmons beds with a tatami living area, making it a practical choice for a family or small group that wants separate spaces for sleeping and relaxing.

The 49-square-metre Deluxe Room is the largest category and appears only once on each floor. It includes a Japanese room, a wide veranda-style seating area, a twin bedroom, and a private bathroom separated from the toilet. A Deluxe Room on the second floor has a more accessible layout that allows wheelchair movement into the bathroom.

Your room includes a television, empty refrigerator, safe, air conditioning, humidifying air purifier, hair dryer, illuminated magnifying mirror, coffee machine, electric kettle, mineral water, tea, towels, toiletries, original indoor wear, and a haori jacket. Useful loan items include a heater, humidifier, aroma diffuser, trouser press, iron, DVD player, desk lamp, mobile charger, travel adapter, wheelchair, board games, umbrellas, bed guards, and baby cots. Availability is limited, so arrange important items early.

Selected Standard, Superior A, and Superior B rooms welcome small dogs. You can bring up to two dogs weighing no more than six kilograms each. Pet equipment includes a cage, ceramic food bowl, toilet sheets, waste bags, a sealed waste bin, lint roller, dustpan, and bucket. The hotel grounds also include a 600-square-metre dog run for small dogs.

Dining

Dinner lets you choose between Japanese and Italian course dining, depending on your accommodation plan. Both styles focus on ingredients from Nasu, Tochigi, and nearby farms rather than a large buffet.

At Miyabi, you enjoy creative Japanese cuisine in a course format. The kitchen builds the menu around seasonal highland vegetables, local meat, fish, rice, yuba, and carefully prepared sauces and broths. Plans may include creative kaiseki, seasonal Japanese courses, or a more relaxed Japanese set meal. The menu changes through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, so the ingredients and presentation reflect the time of your visit.

At Fontana, you enjoy creative Italian cuisine with local ingredients. The open kitchen includes a stone oven where pizza is baked and served hot. Your course may combine pizza, pasta, fish, meat, vegetables, and dairy products from the region. The wine selection includes bottles from Nasu and Tochigi, allowing you to pair your meal with wine made close to the highlands.

Dinner is usually offered in two periods, from 5:30 PM to 7:15 PM and from 7:30 PM to 9:15 PM. Your dining time and restaurant depend on the plan you book.

Breakfast uses fresh vegetables delivered by contracted farms, selected eggs, rice, and other regional ingredients. The hotel works with local producers who grow leafy vegetables, root vegetables, rice, and seasonal crops with close attention to soil and farming methods. Children’s meals can also be prepared, making the dining experience easier when you travel as a family.

Onsen and Wellness

The seventh-floor panoramic bath area gives you two different views of Nasu. Tenpo no Yu faces west toward the Nasu mountain range, forested foothills, and evening sky. Asamine no Yu faces east toward the countryside and morning light. The bath areas switch between men and women, giving you the chance to experience both views during your stay.

The outdoor bathing spaces include a hinoki bath, rock bath, ceramic pot baths, and a silky bath filled with fine bubbles. Inside, you can use the main bath, reclining bath, sauna, cold-water bath, and washing area. Large windows keep the Nasu scenery visible even when you prefer the sheltered indoor bath.

The hotel uses its own natural spring within Nasu Miyabi no Sato. The water is a sodium-magnesium chloride, sulfate, and bicarbonate spring, classified as hypotonic and neutral. It has a faint colour and mineral scent, with a soft, smooth feeling against your skin. Traditional indications include support for sensitivity to cold, poor peripheral circulation, dry skin, minor cuts, and low mood. Treat these as established onsen indications rather than medical treatment.

Bathing hours are normally from 3:00 PM to midnight and from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM. After bathing, you can rest in the indoor relaxation area, enjoy a complimentary ice pop, or step into the outdoor cooling space and look across the countryside.

The seventh-floor treatment area offers massage, body care, and beauty treatments from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Booking by the previous day is recommended, since appointment availability may be limited.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can use the shared baths when every tattoo is completely hidden beneath a suitable tattoo cover seal. You need to apply the cover before entering and keep the design fully concealed throughout your time in the bathing area. The hotel does not provide a reservable private bath or an in-room hot spring bath.

Facilities

Hotel Morinokaze Nasu includes a Taisho Roman-style entrance hall, Bar Royale lounge, welcome drink service, Japanese and Italian dining rooms, top-floor hot spring baths, sauna, cold-water bath, treatment room, after-bath relaxation area, late-night noodle restaurant, souvenir shop, member lounge, indoor bicycle storage, EV charging station, designated smoking room, free Wi-Fi, elevators, and free parking.

Bar Royale serves welcome drinks from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The late-night restaurant offers noodle dishes from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with the final order at 10:00 PM. The shop opens from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, carrying sweets, drinks, local products, and souvenirs from Nasu.

A Japanese painting titled Light of the Universe by Shokan Goma stands near the entrance. The hotel also has a dedicated lounge for Miyabi Club members. If you bring your own bicycle, you can store it inside the entrance area rather than leaving it outdoors. The parking area includes a 200-volt standard EV charging station.

Fruit Park Morinokaze sits within the wider grounds. Seasonal harvest experiences may include strawberries, grapes, or other produce, depending on growing conditions and the programme available during your stay.

Activities

Spring gives you one of the best times to walk around Nasu Miyabi no Sato. The hotel grounds include 26 types of cherry trees, with around 500 trees across the site. A seasonal map guides you through walking routes where you may also see apple blossoms and fields of rapeseed flowers.

Fruit Park Morinokaze offers seasonal picking experiences. Strawberry plans may include a timed picking session with several cultivars, while autumn can bring grape harvesting. Availability, fruit, prices, and opening dates depend on the growing season, so check the current programme when you book.

Seasonal events at the hotel may include stargazing, campfires, roasted sweet potatoes, marshmallow grilling, firefly observation, and summer fruit experiences. These programmes change by date and weather, so treat them as special additions rather than daily activities.

You can reach Nasu Teddy Bear Museum in about one minute by car and Nasu Highland Rindo Lake Family Farm in about five minutes. Nasu Stained Glass Museum and Emile Gallé Museum are also around five minutes away. For a mountain day, Nasu Ropeway and the walking routes around Mount Chausu are about 25 minutes away by car. Sesshoseki and Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge give you more chances to explore Nasu’s volcanic landscape, local legends, flowers, and autumn colours.
