Overview

At Hotel Park, you stay beside the Nagara River at the foot of forest-covered Mt. Kinka, with Gifu Castle rising above the landscape. The riverside setting brings together mountain scenery, flowing water, cherry blossoms, and one of Gifu’s best-known hot spring areas. From the open lobby and terrace, you can watch the river, listen to birds in the morning, and see the surrounding trees change with the seasons.

You can begin your day with a walk beside the Nagara River, follow the nearby trail toward Mt. Kinka, or simply take time to enjoy the view. In spring, cherry blossoms frame the lobby and outdoor deck. During the cormorant fishing season, illuminated boats and fishing fires bring the river to life after sunset. You can also learn about the property’s long history through displays that trace its story from Meijikan in 1894 to the present-day Hotel Park.

Accommodation

You can choose from Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms with beds and tatami, twin rooms, spacious family rooms, terrace rooms, and renewed concept rooms. Views differ by room, with options facing the Nagara River, Mt. Kinka, Gifu Castle, or a combination of all three.

The renewed concept rooms Ao, Ai, and Haku take inspiration from Mt. Kinka, the clear waters of the region, and deep blue tones. Each room gives you a different way to enjoy the changing scenery around the mountain and castle.

Room 355 offers a terrace facing Mt. Kinka and Gifu Castle. You can sleep on Simmons beds, enjoy locally selected coffee or tea on the terrace, and watch the castle illumination in the evening. This room also includes a dedicated dining space where you can enjoy dinner in privacy.

The top-floor corner Room 510 gives you one of the widest views. Mt. Kinka rises to one side, Mt. Dodo appears on the other, and the Nagara River stretches into the distance directly ahead. On cormorant fishing nights, you may see the glowing fishing fires and the dramatic final formation of the boats from your room.

Room 310 is a traditional 10-tatami Japanese room overlooking both Mt. Kinka and the Nagara River. Cherry blossoms appear close to the windows in spring, followed by rich green foliage in summer.

Japanese-Western rooms combine a 12-tatami sitting area with twin beds. River-facing Room 305 gives you a direct view of the cormorant fishing finale on operating nights. Castle-view Japanese-Western rooms face Mt. Kinka, allowing you to see spring blossoms, summer greenery, autumn leaves, winter snow, and the illuminated castle after dark.

You can also select standard 10-tatami or 12-tatami Japanese rooms with river or castle views, Western-style twin rooms, and larger Japanese rooms measuring up to 20 tatami mats.

Dining

Your dinner focuses on seasonal kaiseki cuisine prepared with ingredients from Gifu’s rivers, mountains, and farms. Menus change each month, giving you dishes that suit the season rather than a fixed selection throughout the year. Depending on your accommodation plan, you can dine in your room or in a dining venue.

One local speciality is Ikadashi Nabe, an original hot pot inspired by the raft workers who once transported timber down the Nagara River. You cook Mino Healthy Pork and vegetables in a rich house-made miso broth. Another long-standing dish is the beef hot pot, made with cubes of beef cooked in special miso and finished with egg.

Seasonal menus may also feature salt-grilled ayu sweetfish, wagyu, river fish, and produce from the Mino and Hida regions. You can order additional dishes such as ayu, eel, beef hot pot, and Hida beef croquettes when available.

Breakfast takes place at Restaurant Tsuburajii on the first floor. Depending on the day, you can enjoy a Japanese and Western buffet or a Japanese set meal. Local breakfast favourites include hoba miso served with rice and warming ayu rice porridge. Child-friendly breakfast dishes are also available.

Onsen and Wellness

You can bathe in natural Nagaragawa Onsen water while looking across the Nagara River, Mt. Kinka, and Gifu Castle. The top-floor bathing area includes spacious indoor baths and open-air baths positioned high above the river.

Yama-no-Yu faces Mt. Kinka and places you close to the forested mountain scenery. Kawa-no-Yu opens toward the wide flow of the Nagara River. In the morning, you can watch the sky brighten above the castle. At night, you can soak beneath the moon while the illuminated castle stands above the mountain.

Nagaragawa Onsen is classified as a simple iron cold mineral spring, specifically a neutral, hypotonic cold mineral spring. The water contains iron and radon. It rises clear at the source but changes to a reddish-brown colour after contact with the air. The spring water has traditionally been used for bathing associated with fatigue recovery, cold sensitivity, muscle and joint discomfort, and general wellbeing.

Ganban-yoku Yuzuriha gives you a water-free bathing experience on heated natural stone beds. You lie on the warm surface as heat gradually reaches the body and encourages deep sweating. The room uses three types of stone: Yakuhogyokuseki, black germanium, and bakuhanseki. A dedicated robe, towel, and mineral water are included. Regular sessions are for women, while private sessions can accommodate mixed groups.

Guests with Tattoos

You cannot use the hot spring baths or ganban-yoku facilities if you have tattoos.

Facilities

Inside Hotel Park, you can relax in the spacious first-floor lobby overlooking the Nagara River and cherry trees. The outdoor deck gives you a closer connection to the riverside scenery, while Café Koto no Ha offers indoor and terrace seating for drinks and quiet breaks. The lobby gallery includes seasonal displays and permanent exhibits about Hotel Park’s history, writer Yasunari Kawabata’s connection to Gifu, and Oda Nobunaga’s role in naming the city.

You can also use a children’s corner facing the river, Restaurant Tsuburajii, and the Hakekago gift shop, where you can find ayu sweets, local confectionery, Mino washi lamps, regional food, and sake made with Nagara River water. In the basement, Snack Myojo offers a Showa-era atmosphere, a karaoke stage, and separate karaoke rooms.

Activities

You can walk or jog along the Nagara River throughout the year. A green walking route begins near the neighbouring Hanaki Square, and you can reach a trail leading toward Mt. Kinka in around ten minutes. From there, you can continue hiking toward Gifu Castle while enjoying forest scenery and seasonal views.

From May 11 to October 15, you can experience Nagara River cormorant fishing, a tradition with around 1,300 years of history. On operating nights, you may watch the fishing boats from selected rooms, the lobby deck, or the riverside. The cormorant fishing museum nearby gives you another way to learn about the tools, boats, and history behind the tradition.

You can also borrow a bicycle during your stay, subject to availability, and explore the riverfront and nearby areas at your own pace.

Additional Features

You receive free Wi-Fi throughout the property and free parking beside the building without advance reservation. You can check in from 15:00 and check out at 10:00, although selected plans include an 11:00 departure. Every room includes an air purifier and an empty refrigerator for your own drinks. You can leave your luggage at reception before check-in or after check-out. The property is non-smoking, with designated smoking rooms on the first and fourth floors.
