Overview

Hotel & Resort Yamanouchi Hills gives you an easy hot spring stay in Yudanaka, one of Nagano’s well-known onsen areas. You stay about a three-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, with mountain scenery, hot spring town walks, and major sightseeing spots within easy reach. Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, Shiga Kogen, and Kita-Shiga Kogen are all close enough for a smooth day out.

Renewed as an all-inclusive hotel, Yamanouchi Hills makes the stay feel simple from the moment you arrive. You can enjoy meals, drinks, snacks, welcome sweets, hot springs, and after-bath ice cream without planning every small detail. This is a relaxed choice when you want good access, hot spring time, and a comfortable base for exploring northern Nagano.

Accommodation

Yamanouchi Hills has 36 rooms across four room styles. The rooms are simple, spacious, and practical, giving you a comfortable place to rest after skiing, hiking, sightseeing, or a long train journey through Nagano.

The Japanese Twin Rooms measure 28 square meters and combine a Japanese atmosphere with twin-style sleeping comfort. These rooms have a separate bath and toilet and work well when you want a room that feels easy and familiar while still keeping a Japanese touch.

The Japanese-Western Rooms also measure 28 square meters and give you both tatami space and beds. This room type is a good choice when you want to sit and relax on tatami but prefer sleeping in a bed. The bath and toilet are separate, which adds comfort during a longer stay.

The Japanese Rooms measure 28 square meters and give you a classic tatami layout with futon bedding. These rooms suit you well when you want a more traditional hot spring hotel stay. They also have a separate bath and toilet.

The Twin Rooms measure 16 square meters and offer a compact Western-style stay with a unit bath. These rooms are best when you plan to spend most of your time outside the room and want a simple, efficient place to sleep.

Amenities are available near the front desk, so you can take what you need for your stay. Rooms include a bath and toilet, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

Dining

Dining at Yamanouchi Hills follows the hotel’s all-inclusive style. You can enjoy creative buffet dishes or Japanese set meals, depending on the number of people staying. The menu uses local ingredients and changes with the season, so the meal reflects the flavors of Shinshu without feeling too formal.

During meals, you can enjoy unlimited drinks from a selection of around 15 alcoholic and soft drinks. The drink lineup includes local Nagano sake, draft beer, sour cocktails, wine, and soft drinks, making dinner feel relaxed and generous.

Dinner is served from 18:00 to 20:00, and breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:00. Dining hours may shift or run in two sittings depending on the day. Special meals for food allergies are not available because dishes are prepared in the same kitchen with shared utensils and equipment. If you have food allergies, you can bring your own food after contacting the hotel when booking.

Onsen and Wellness

The natural hot spring is one of the main reasons to stay at Yamanouchi Hills. You can soak in a large indoor bath and an open-air bath, giving you a peaceful way to warm up after mountain sightseeing, skiing, or a day at the Snow Monkey Park.

The spring quality is sodium chloride and sulfate spring water. The source temperature is 63.6°C, and the bath temperature is listed at 43°C. The water is associated with relief for nerve pain, lower back pain, frozen shoulder, sensitivity to cold, fatigue, dry skin, minor cuts, and circulation concerns.

The large bath and open-air bath are available from 15:00 to 24:00 and from 6:30 to 9:00. After your bath, you can enjoy complimentary ice cream from 15:00 to 24:00, adding a small but memorable treat to your hot spring routine.

Guests with Tattoos

Yamanouchi Hills has shared public hot spring baths and no private bath option. If you have tattoos, you cannot use the public hot spring baths.

Facilities

Yamanouchi Hills keeps the stay easy with an all-inclusive lounge, welcome corner, hot spring baths, coin laundry, vending machines, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary parking. The welcome corner is open from 15:00 to 17:00 and offers detox water and baked sweets, giving you a pleasant pause after arrival.

The lounge is one of the most appealing parts of the stay. You can enjoy soft drinks, draft beer, wine, sour cocktails, and local Nagano sake from 15:00 to 24:00 and again from 7:00 to 10:00. The hotel is fully non-smoking, with a smoking area on the 2nd-floor terrace. Coin laundry and vending machines are available 24 hours, which helps during longer stays or ski trips.

Activities

Yamanouchi Hills gives you strong access to both green-season and snow-season activities. Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is about 13 minutes away by car, where you can see the famous wild monkeys in the mountain setting. Shiga Kogen, Kita-Shiga, and Ryuoo Ski Park are also easy to reach by car, making the hotel a useful base for winter sports.

In warmer months, you can explore mountain trails, lakes, wetlands, and highland scenery around Shiga Kogen. Sunshin Trail, Onuma Pond, Biwa Pond, Tanohara Wetland, and Higashitateyama Alpine Botanical Garden all offer a different way to enjoy the mountain landscape. If you prefer golf, Shiga Kogen Country Club is also nearby by car.
